About Warfighter: The Tactical Special Forces Card Game

Warfighter

is a card game for 1 to 6 players. You play cooperatively with your friends against the system to complete present day squad-level combat missions.

At the start of each mission, you each select a soldier, equip him/her with skills, weapons, and combat gear within the mission's Resource limit.

You then fight your way through hostile territory, engaging hostiles, as you attempt to reach and complete your mission objective.

Every mission is a stand-alone game. You build your Soldiers, select your Gear, and then run your mission. Within 30 to 60 minutes you will have succeeded or failed.

Warfighter uses a new combat system that takes into account the fire mode you select for your weapon, range, running out of ammo, suppression, and cover - all in the same dice roll! This system creates an incredibly deep narrative with every attack.

As you eliminate hostiles, you gain experience to up gun your Action cards.

Included Expansions

More weapons, hostiles, equipment, locations, etc.

Expansion #2 - Stealth

I can't recommend this. I have the physical version and this was meant to ease setup/teardown. Somehow this manages to take more time to setup than the physical one. The assets are not grouped in a way to make finding things easy. If you already have the physical version of this, stay away from this digital version. If you don't have the physical version and don't mind laborious setup, this might be for you.

Might just be my lack of oversight but, Where are the action cards? If you look in the core game decks box, it only contains the skill, equipment, and weapon cards. Not sure whether or not this is intentional, or they are in their own seperate box. This will be subject to change upon recieving an answer. Edit: A little forum search later and I find out that the action card deck ended up in the wrong box. Apparently devs have been notified and hopefully the fix will soon be implemented. For those looking for the action card deck, it's in the United Kingdom box.

This is an incredible value - 15 Euros for a game, that with all expansion currently sits firmly around the 200 Euro mark. While I am not happy with the rules (they are not well structured and needlessly confusing), the game itself plays well, fast and fun. I can heartily recommend this DLC, with the caveat that it currently has a few minor issues that will be soon addressed with a hotfix. This DLC definitely ranks among my favourites together with Zombicide an Scythe.

The production quality of this DLC is amazing. Not only do you get the actual game with expansions, but the developers have created a full dugout environment that really sets the mood (you can see it in the screenshots, but it really comes to life in 3D), and there are lots of little touches like the manual being cased in a protective shell. This all makes it more than worth the price of admission.

The best way to play this game solo. Everything is set up nicely, the cards and parts all fit neatly on their respective boards, and no pieces scattering everywhere! I already own the physical game and its expansions, but this will pretty much render that obsolete except for big parties. For $15, this is a steal, and a great game to play solo or with friends. Hopefully the WW2 themed Warfighter will be added at a later date! Now, on to the game itself. Warfighter is a cooperative card/board game for 1-6 players with a modern military theme (and actual pictures of veterans, might I add). Players will choose a mission, objective, soldiers to play as, and weapons/skills to equip them with. Planning in this game is often more than half the battle. After setup, players will compete against the clock to beat the mission while minimizing the number of friendly casualties. This game gives the players a pretty good number of choices during gameplay, and an almost overwhelming amount of choices during planning (especially with expansions). Luck and strategy are both a strong factor here, so poor dice rolls can end a game fairly quickly, but overall the balance is fair between the two. The only big negative I can say about this game is that it requires a lot of piece management. There's a huge amount of action markers, ammo counters, player tokens, etc. that must be adjusted all the time, and it can be a chore. However, it's do-able, and it works much smoother if you have multiple players. This annoyance increases tenfold if you are playing the game solo with multiple Player Soldiers (each one has their own hand of cards). I personally only stick to one Player Soldier on solo games to avoid that. Also, as I said above, the dice can heavily screw you over in this game. If you're someone who hates to have an entire game be ruined by poor dice rolls, I might would give this game a pass. The difficulty curve in this game is pretty fair, but there are times where you will barely get to act because the enemy will keep supressing your troops. Or there might be times where every attack ends up with you running out of ammo, to the point where you can't even shoot at the enemy and you might as well flip the table (in TTS and in real life). Overall, this is a fun game solo or with players, and definitely should be purchased if you love strategic action-packed games. It's mechanically and thematically solid, and each play session (once you get used to the planning) doesn't take up too much time.

Warfighter is the faithful conversion of the Dan Verssen Games Kickstarter game "Modern" Warfighter (there is a WW2-version now, too). It not only contains the base game, but also all the expansions, all in all about $200 worth of them. The short version: This is a great 2-player-coop game and for me the killer app for Tabletop Simulator! Pros: * All the cards, plus you can duplicate all the cards you need, easily. * Cards are at quite high resolution, making them really easy to read on "Alt". * Very nice, motivating game room. * Intelligent setup for counters, player mats, etc. * Great virtual miniatures for your soldiers, including different skins. * Great rules, making missions great fun two players, even when playing the first game. * No need to sort the cards back - just flip the table and go from the start (do keep a save where you have sorted cards into some system that makes sense to you) Cons: * The cards are faithfully sorted into their prospective expansions, making setup and finding your way around what you have a true chore. * I have not found a way to deal cards to a play, but had to put them on the table randomly - which is not really a problem since you are playing coop anyway, so minor gripe. Conclusion: If you like solo or coop wargames this game is a steal, and reason alone to buy Tabletop Simulator along with it. I just wish DVG would release an official version of Warfighter WW2 and other solo games (the Apache solo game, perhaps) in the same quality!

Incredible game, about as much fun solo as it is with a group. Described the game to friends as "Armed Assault the Board Game" and had a good laugh when I got it and discovered the Cartel cards are literally Arma Screenshots. I don't mind the layout but I DO really really wish there was some scripting to handle some of the tedious parts, like laying out and selecting gear/soldiers. The bullet dice are an interesting novelty but there normaly isnt a lot of table room so I end up using the normal dice and a cool fitting Ar magazine themed dice tower by a user named "Tumba." Speaking of Tumba his version of the WW2 Warfighter has a cool method of automating attack rolls for weapons and boy is that nice, wouldnt mind getting some of THAT kinda scripting in this official one. Otherwise excellent Game/DLC WELL worth the money!

    Dec 27, 2018

Special note: Disregard the review from December 24 that claims there are no instructions; this is not true*. There is a 27 page Operations Manual sitting directly on the right side of the table when it loads. There is an additional 15 page scenerio booklet near the top right of the table, as well. (Both can be seen in this screenshot.) If needed, there are also several excellent files on Board Game Geek that summarize the rules in 4 pages or less. The game is fairly easy to learn, especially when compared to many other solo wargames (and Fields of Fire, I'm looking at you.) Review: This is an absolutely stellar version of an addictive game. Even at the full price of $15 (U.S.) it's a savings of over 90%, as the physical edition of the game and the same nine expansions would easily run $200. The scans are vibrant, and the images are crisp and gorgeous, even when completely zoomed in. The "Inactive" and "Timer" tokens are animated with a slow rotation, but they aren't too distracting. Cards snap into their proper places on the player mat, and the only real complaint I have (and it's a minor one) is that returning the deck boxes back into the carrying case on the table can be a bit tricky. Turns are quick once you get into the rhythm of things, and a game can be played in about an hour (give or take 30 minutes). In the world of wargaming, where a single turn can often take an hour, this speed and ease of play is a breath of fresh air. Warfighter is a blast if you're a solo board gamer. If you want to get into wargaming, or want to try a wargame that uses cards as its primary mechanic, you can't get more bang for your buck. Highly, highly recommended. (*If the review is amended, I'll happily delete this part from mine. Currently, the comments are disabled, but I couldn't let misinformation keep interested gamers from purchasing this excellent game.) EDIT: If you're looking for a high quality video tutorial, you can't do better than the series by Gimpy Gamer on YouTube. The first two videos should get you up and running. You can also find the game's instruction manuals (in multiple languages) at the publisher's website. (Really, it's incredible what you can find with a couple minutes of searching on Google.)

As owner of "real-feel-with-your-fingers" DVG games like Hornet Leader, TAL, Alexander and Napoleon I can not said bad words on this. :) Especially when I wait Warfighter ww2. ;) It's no brainer that the main Pro for this Warfighter DLC is the price. To cheap to miss with discounts. What you get is really treasure!!! But! If this is your first DLC for Tabletop simulator you should really thread this carefuly. You need patience to master the use of mouse and keybord to look, search and compile your squad. Beginning is slow, relocating decks and cards around a board could be anoying and frustrating. Even if you play "Sample Mission" from the real game Rulebook. But eventually you will fight like a pro. :D I would recommend that you first READ a RULEBOOK of the game. It helps on understanding a game and ease the "pain" of acclimating to the Tabletop simulation of Warfighter.

Such a great story telling experience! Each game has a great narrative. My only complaint about the app is trying to put cards in your hand...we fiddled with it for 20 minutes and could not figure out a way to put cards in a hand...we just ended up laying them all out on the board (which was fine, but how hard is it to make a hand feature?).
  • Lt. van der Storm

    May 5, 2020

A very well designed card game which demands teamplay as well as luck with rolling your dice, but very well balanced. Also the scripting is good, sometimes the cards freak out when you put ammo stacks on them or hostile cards just disapear under the mat, but makes fun to play. Also a nice solo play game, but I recommend to play it with at least one friend (solo playing is always tending to get boring imo).

Hi guys anyone want to play warfighter let me know?
  • Adzi

    May 26, 2020

Game is great, although the rulebook is a bit hard to mentally process at first - be prepared that a first game might take a few hours just because of that, even if it would take much less time normally. Also, decision paralysis. Don't worry about the card limit, though - this is TTS, you can just copy the cards if you need more of any given item/skill than is provided (and the rulebook indeed confirms, that amount of cards/counters is not intended to be a limit for outfitting your squad) Difficulty spike alert! - just be aware that Middle-East Insurgents are much more dangerous than Cartel dudes. One nitpick is that I'd frankly not make those snap points on the board - the snap points only "support" max. 3 Hostile Cards per Location, and it happens rather often for enemies to spawn in greater quantities than that. Wonder if we'd eventually get more of Warfighter as offical DLC - or some other DVG games, even!

For me this is pretty much the perfect DLC for TTS. A huge amount of soldiers, weapons, kits, skills, enemies, locations, it is insane. Excellent to play solo as well.
