Decided what the heck I'd try it because steam gave me a 90% off coupon making this game $1.18 in price w/ tax. 99% of the few minutes I played I was sitting at a black screen listening to dialog, the other percent I was at the menu in game... never got to actual game play, got so bored and I alt + F4'd to quit and go request a refund. It's sad because the video's on the games page looked like a nice bullet hell kind of game which I find fun normally.

Survive in Space Space shooter with some RPG elements, like level up and skill trees. Graphics and art: colorful, cartoonish. It has a basic story that while bland, is better than your average space shooter. Gameplay is straightforward, and easy enough to master, although a little bit of grinding is involved, especially to get all achievements. In particular, for the difficulty achievements, the game does not keep track of which missions were beaten in which difficulty, so I recommend beating each mission in easy, medium and hard, before progressing to the next. The game is easy enough to finish, I recommend playing with all difficulty multipliers for best challenge. Why your space ship cannot rotate is beyond me, when your enemies can, your ship can only point left or right... Soundtrack: generic outsourced electronic music. It is ok but does not exactly fit the theme. Value: Overpriced at full price. Wait for a sale or coupon. Final rating: 7/10.

Why tf is it 10.99? get it on sale for like .49, gameplay is repetative and boring, story is written by a 13 year old shadow the hedgehog fan, and none of the music feels like it fits in. Do i reccomend? No. Did i revisit it after 2 years after buying to try to beat it anyway? Yes.

Survive in Space is a space shooter that blends Defender's left and right controls with Asteroid's single screen presence. I like Survive in Space, but its still tough to recommend, because the entire game is a grind. The 50 levels that the game boasts are all the same. Each level consists of three waves of enemies, each enemy gives experience that you use to buy upgrades. Even with upgrades, I never feel like I'm making little progress, because each level feels the same. Like all shooters, you have your basic machine gun, but to make things interesting, there is a fat laser that lasts a few seconds and homing missiles. There seems to be a color coated mechanic where when you're red, the four orbs get tucked close to your ship while when you're red they're far away. Once your a super weapon get used, you need to wait for them to recharge. Since enemies spawn left and right on a single screen, the game has mercy on you and lets you face left or right ala Defender. Because you push a button, that means you can fly right while facing left and vice versa. You have a versatile set of controls and the game does a good job of explaining them. You can use mouse, keyboard or a controller, but some of the menus seem to need a mouse. The enemies feel like a good variety and they feel different than other games of the same caliber. The problem is that you see them all on each level, making each level feel the same. To the game's credit, every new level includes a new enemy, but they're always hard to spot when mixed in with the same foes that you've seen for hours. Your foes come at you from all different angles, so you need to stay in front of them and destroy them before they can come at you from awkward positions. To break up the monotony of what it is, there are boss fights every 10 or so levels. Each boss has several bullet patterns as you fight them one-on-one. These feel like a good diversion among a sea of the same. Its odd that I can enjoy a classic arcade game to no end, but when I feel like I'm locked into a 50 level campaign, it begins to feel like a chore. Perhaps if I took it lighter and not as a goal and just played the game over the span of years I'd feel better about it. The upgrades come in tiers. You first make a few minor upgrades to each weapon and then make a few major upgrades before the next tier unlocks. The upgrades include shorter recharge, more experience, more damage, vampire health from enemies, the chance to kill an enemy with one shot or do critical damage. Everything makes the game a fraction easier, but its never enough to notice a difference. One of the double-edged swords is the upgrade to split beams. In theory that sounds great, but in practice you shoot in a V which means you need to maneuver around differently when enemies are coming toward you. On the plus side, you can upgrade your vessel too to do more damage, have better shields, more armor and so on. Since this is a game about killing things, I recommend just pour everything into attack power. The quicker your foes die, the safer you are. Some of your own attacks are questionable. The strong straight laser feels powerful, but the homing missiles are slow and detonate if you destroy the vessel they were aiming at. So by the time they get to their target, its dead, making the missiles almost useless. Good thing there is an achievement for using them. One thing that the game has going for it are the easy achievements that a low percentage of people have. Perhaps the most aggravating part of Survive in Space are the cheap deaths that come in two forms. The first are the invisible ships that decloak. You can see them and they move in a slow, straight path, but when it gets chaotic they can decloak in on you. The other cheap death is something similar where a vessel will make a portal. The portal starts small so you can see it... unless you sit and shoot, then the portal opens wide and throws out a vessel. These two cheap deaths are the only time I ever die. To the game's credit, you can make your own challenge for each level. Its more then difficulty, there are three check boxes for more enemies, fortresses that fly by and shoot at you and asteroids. Yes asteroids fly at you, which makes me feel the Asteroids vibe even more. I have gotten to the point where I am unstoppable so I add asteroids and fortresses. You get extra experience for the extra challenge. More enemies seems to spawn a little too much to handle and when this is a grind, you need to play it safe. I have avoided perhaps the worst thing about the game and that is the art. In the game, the art is fine, but there are several cut scenes with art that just feels out of place. I am sure someone worked hard on the art, but it cheapens the look of the game. In the end, I'm just there for the arcade experience, so I skip the cut scenes. Another downside to the game is with your ability to chose between red and blue on the fly means you shoot the same color of bullets. However, enemies fire their own color coated bullets, so if you're red and red bullets are being fired at you, then they just blend in with your own. Now that I've said it, you do have plenty of health and shields to compensate. If you need a reason to stay in the game longer, there are other vessels to play. That might keep your interest, but after the sheer investment of time into one vessel, its best to just stick with what you know. In the end, I'm still on the fence if I can recommend it. Its enjoyable, but a chore. Its fun, but there's just too much of not enough. There are other similar games out there, that feel better to play or have more charm or a better look. Survive in Space is still a fun time waster, but I'd like more diversity when I'm playing the same level over and over again with a new hat. For the right price its well worth the risk to see if you enjoy it.

Decent music, amusingly bad voice acting, mediocre animation, and repetitive but palatable gameplay...This would be a recommend due to le cheapness excepts for one big thing: the story is absolutely atrocious. Save your people? Maybe rescue a cute girl along the way? That's a negative, you get to be overwhelmed by a big bad guy who's badder than the final boss! You're the vessel who gets to make the universe even worse rather than delivering it! Sounds great, right? Morality shadier than the underside of a jalopy on a haunted used car lot makes this one get two thumbs down from me. Spend your $0.49 on trading cards or something, this ain't worth it.

I guess for the price, this could be classified as "ok". There's nothing wrong with the game itself, it just feels generic and unpolished. The story is a nice touch, but I don't really play a shoot 'em up for its story...

A battle in space with a very interesting mechanics of development and various enemies and ways to deal with them. There is a story in the game, but it is not so important, so if it does not interest you, after a while, learn not to notice it. There are some disadvantages - for some reason the field in which the ship flies is limited to movement not at the edges of the screen, which can be confused, and the pace of the game is a bit slow for its idea, but otherwise the game is excellent

Cool thing about this game is you can add your own songs... So all and all... it's a nice game... not bad. Give it a try =)

ok, this game isnt awful. i was honestly surprised that, by the time i got all the achievements, i had anything positive to say about it. but i DEFINITELY dont think its worth the 5 dollar price tag. id suggest getting this only if its on sale for 2 dollars or less, anything more than that is too much for the meager amount of content it gives you. PROS + the boss fights are fun and pretty creative. + the music is ok. i turned it off eventually, since its the same handful of songs every single level, but i enjoyed them for a little bit. + the different modes (asteroids, additional enemies, fortresses) are a nice touch and lend to actually making the game playable. i played level 49 on ultra hard with all three modes turned on to grind for experience and it was actually challenging and enjoyable. + the ship bonuses you can get are pretty cool. the rotating laser one is my fave. + the offense / defense modes you can switch between, that each have their own strengths and weaknesses, is a cool concept. i dont know if this game is the first to do that but its definitely fun to play with. CONS - repetitive. REALLY repetitive. by my second playthrough (for an achievement) i was literally just shooting without looking at the screen, and watching TV instead. - speaking of which, the fact that you have to play through the entire game THREE times to get the difficulty achievements (finish the game on easy, medium, and hard) really, really sets it back. it only hammers in how repetitive and boring the game can be. - the voice acting is.... very subpar. and i definitely did not enjoy hearing the same three lines repeated over and over during actual gameplay - lines that im pretty sure are ripped straight from league of legends champions. - my BIGGEST gripe with this game is its lack of color coordination. its so hard to tell whats going on when theres more than three enemies on the screen. all the attacks are different colors, and you yourself have two assigned colors depending on whether youre in defense (blue) or offense (red) mode. using the homing explosion attack while in offense mode especially makes it all really confusing. and everything is so bright when something explodes that you cant see the enemies around it. - the art. in my opinion, its actually not very bad. the main issues with it are the very plain backgrounds and the rough, unfinished lines. nonetheless, it definitely isnt art that i want to see in a video game i paid money for. - the boss fights arent enough to make playing the nine levels in between them worth it or fun. its all such a boring, continuous grind. and its so SLOW. it takes so long for new enemies to appear that you could be sitting there for five to ten seconds, just waiting for something else to show up.
Generally
Survive in Space is probably the best Just1337 Studio game I've ever played.
Gameplay
Our goal is to complete 50 levels, including 5 bosses. There are four levels of difficulty to choose from and additional modes that make it difficult for us to play. We have to defeat a lot of different opponents, unfortunately too much different than on 50 levels. We also have 5 ships with different bonuses to choose from, which we unlock for completed levels. In addition, we can develop player skills and abilities.
Sound
The sounds that accompany us during the game are cool. Soundtrack is the same as in any other game of this type, except that we can add our own songs to the game
Graphics
Not everyone will like the graphics, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Surely there will be people who really like such graphics in games. Generally, it is better than other games of this type from Just1337 Studio.
Summary
Overall, the game is good, it takes about 5-6 hours to complete all levels. This is not a game that I would like to play every day, but it is definitely good at once. ✔️Nice soundtrack ✔️Interesting opponents ✔️Sometimes it's hard. ✔️Cheap ❌Monotonous ❌Boring ❌Too long Time of completion: 5-6 hours Rating: 6/10 ATTENTION! Please note that this is only my evaluation and opinion of the game. If you do not agree with it or think that the game deserves a higher or lower rating, please leave a comment and I will be happy to respond.
I invite you to follow my curator profile - https://store.steampowered.com/curator/34408584/
+ changeable controls. Controls with keyboard are fine. + a lot of difficulty options + RPG-progress-elements - every aspect of this game utterly feels like cheap shovelware I guess the RPG-elements, combined with the option to play on a very low difficulty, make this game recommendable to casual players or beginners who would like to try out the shmup-genre. I don't recommend to shmup-fans and -collectors.

Great music and good graphics.Addicting gameplay, features and many levels to spend a lot of time playing. Also easy achievements (for achievements hunters). But and this is a big but the dialogs and the story cutscenes are cringy af i skipped most of them overall: 6.5/10 worth its money (if u have a coupon even better its a hard choice for 5 bucks)

Well... another game from the developer of Just 1337x. By now... I already get used to their games and this game isn't that bad. It's decent, playable and enjoyable... and wort the time too. Cool thing about this game is you can add your own songs... So all and all... it's a nice game... not bad. Give it a try =)

this game isnt bad, unfortunatly is has 1 flaw, that if not for it,i would recommend it,the exp gain value is set too high.it makes everything less enjoyable then it should be.even with some enjoyment the recognition of how fun it should be makes it hard for me to recommend.

ok, this game isnt awful. i was honestly surprised that, by the time i got all the achievements, i had anything positive to say about it. but i DEFINITELY dont think its worth the 5 dollar price tag. id suggest getting this only if its on sale for 2 dollars or less, anything more than that is too much for the meager amount of content it gives you.
