You will think this game is the worst game ever in the first 10 minutes. After 10 minutes this game will become your new addiction.Spent 2 hours building a 1800bhp Nissan GTR(Btw most mods work with this version of the game). 30 minutes of gameplay and the AI decides to ram me. I was sent into a pole, the engine flew out. 10/10 I would like to see the AI raging again. EDIT: Check my screenshots to see how the game(+mods) look :).This game will regain popularity due to its steam release so expect mods for this version:)(100% compatible, some mods will crash your game due to older version). Also most mods are made in High Quality rather than game graphics :D.

This game was a wildcard for me. Last year I picked this up and dived right in because, well, I'm a gearhead and I like to break things. But at the time, the game was in such a frustratingly unstable state that I'd get a game crash every 5-10 minutes. With that said, I didn't pick it up for several months. Several months later, the devs have been hard at work to fix some of the many problems that lay within previous versions of the game, and now it's mostly playable. So now, I get a crash every 40 minutes-1 hour. That's quite a marginal improvement! Anyway, I've fought temptations to mod it for quite a while. This game is very moddable, and it has a fairly large modding community backing it, as well as modding support from the devs! If you get really lucky, you might find a car you drive every day on the modding website like I have. If you take my route to recreate your vehicle in this game, you may run into slight issues with the game limitations or the mods not having EVERY single precise detail for your car. Here's a comparison between my real truck and my recreation in-game http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=954273036 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=954315264 This game is really neat, and it's great the game has such versatility to support the huge variety of mods out there! I can wrap the truck around a tree without destroying my wallet or my current life state! I love cars with character, and this game covers that aspect too with the used car dealer. So many shitty beige Willards! I do think the controls could be better. The driving is really sensitive and floaty.. Also, every car you will ever own will peel-out. Every car behaves like it has an LSD or locked diff, and it's a bit offputting to see a shitty sedan that makes 67 hp on the dyno ANNIHILATE the tread on the tires. I recommend you pick it up, you may be suprised.

SLRR is a game about building, repairing and modifying cars. If you like cars or want an in-depth understanding on how cars work, buy this game. The game starts by giving you a garage, a small sum of money and the ability to visit a used car lot/salvage yard to purchase your first wreck of a car. Working on cars is the core element of the game. Vehicles are incredibly detailed with dozens of swappable components. You'll spend about 70% of your time in the garage trying to make your car go as fast as you can afford. The remaining 30% is spent on actually driving your car around a GTA-esque city, earning money by doing street races during the day and drag races at night (hint: drag races are more profitable by several orders of magnitude), running away from police if they try to pull you over as well as trying to keep the parts on your car that you spent the last 30 minutes saving up for from falling off. By doing races, you gain 'reputation' and are able to move up the metaphorical ladder and compete with more challenging opponents at higher stakes. Your goal is to reach the top of this ladder. After about one in-game night of winning at drag races, you'll unlock professional track events. Track races can be done alongside street and drag races, but they're only available during the day. The game stops being GTA and (briefly) becomes almost like Gran Turismo, where you race around a dedicated racetrack with sports cars, rally cars and, towards the end of the game, racecars. Understandably, there are parts of the game that have not aged so well from 2003. Graphics are sub-par at best, and crashes and hangs happen relatively often, and saves are sometimes corrupted by updates. The Steam edition comes with a different soundtrack than the original game, due to copyright issues. Very surprisingly, there is an active fan-based community that continuously implements new features as well as develops the game to support modern OSes. Updates come every month or so and there is extensive mod support for SLRR. The price is $6. For a pretty fun game that is still being actively developed, this is a bargain. 8/10 from me.

Street Legal Racing: Redline is part mechanic sim, part arcade racer. Set in the early 2000's during the Boy Racer fad, you play as Vince Polansky, a mechanic turned racer destined to rise to the top. You start out by repairing old economy cars to make them at least half decent, then progress your way up the tiers. As you rise through the ranks, you'll need better cars, and there's plenty to choose from. From turbo coupes, 4WD rally cars, V8 muscle cars, and top-tier supercars, each with their own unique upgrades, SLRR has plenty of content right out of the box. The graphics have been unchanged since the release, but it invokes a nostalgic sort of feeling. SLRR is a game ahead of its time, with plenty of content and a large modding community. And for that, I recommend it.

Pretty sure the name is a typo, because Street Legal Racing: Redline is so hardcore it flagrantly breaks the law by containing dozens of copyrighted logos from companies like Xbox, Sony, and KFC. However in the end I can really only respect that, the devs were so committed to making a game about showing the middle finger to law enforcement they decided to break the law themselves. Does SLR have gameplay issues? Yes, ranging from wonky "physics" to a complete lack of tutorials to an eccentric ranking system that makes doing open-world challenge races a nightmare, to a bevy of crashes and stability issues. But that doesn't matter, because Street Legal Racing isn't a game. It's a dream. The dream of pulling a rusted 90's mitsubishi out of a scrap heap, fixing it up, painting anime girls on the hood, and duct-taping so much NOS to it that you set 15 new land speed records before either blowing out your engine or wrapping it around a stop sign. And that's a dream worth living.

Ahead of its time. For a 2003 indie game, this game is amazing. Very realistic collision physics (for its time at least), vast and deep tuning/customization, groovy ass music and an open world to explore. What more could you want? You should at least give it a try.

And for that, I recommend it.

stripped a honda civic si down to its chassis, put a v16 with nitrous in it, got rich with it, then had the engine blow up from overstress in the middle of a race. 10/10 best game ever

This game was ahead its time. Way ahead, in fact. Such a realistic car customization and physics were not present back when the game only was selling on CDs. Game didn't get a lot of attention, and it deserves so much of it...

Ahead of its time. For a 2003 indie game, this game is amazing. Very realistic collision physics (for its time at least), vast and deep tuning/customization, groovy ass music and an open world to explore. What more could you want? You should at least give it a try.
