the new character has a cool design, sadly they don't do all that much with it. its also a pretty op character too. apart from that, I used the extra equipment like once or twice (mostly because its stuff you unlock as you go, so it doesn't make you OP in the begining), cause often time I never really felt like I needed them, they're defenetively situational. the challenge levels are cool I guess, some can be quite hard but apart from that I've had some good times with them. would recommend if you're liking the game so far
More missions, more hats and an awesome new character! What's not to like?
After Captain Piper and her crew stumbles upon an old scrap ship, you find yourself presented with a mysterious new crew mate known as Fen. Fen is in a bad way when you find her and it's up to you to bring her back to full health. It's worth doing because Fen is a great character with awesome new abilities. Fen's abilities are focused around a charge mechanic. Everytime Fen kills an enemy she gets a charge which can then be used to use her abilities (you start with a lightning gun sort of thing as well as a healing ability). The abilities can be used with just one charge but they're more powerful with two. The lightning gun resembles the plasma rifles from the Fallout series, just with a pink beam instead of green. It's quite powerful and it's piercing so you can use it to kill multiple enemies. The healing ability is pretty self-explanatory and as with the characters in the base game, levelling up sometimes increases health, movement distance etc. The missions added with the DLC are just as good as those in the base game and rather than just going off in a different direction to the story, the missions from The Outsider are dotted around the story map which helps incorporate it into the base game. The only complaint I had was that since I bought the DLC after playing a fair chunk of the base game, the first few missions of the DLC were incredibly easy with my high-levelled characters. The actual story that weaves the missions together is also very interesting but I won't go into any details so I don't spoil it. The DLC also comes with new hats, guns and equipment. The new hats are really cool, I prefer the new uncommon and rare hats to the ones found in the base game. I mean, there's a pink fez, how cool is that? The new guns are also very good, though if you're over-levelled for the DLC missions then the weapons you find early on will be useless which is a shame. As for the new equipment there's some really cool things added such as mini nuke launchers and special bullets that grant increased damage for any ranged attacks.
Verdict
If you're a fan of the base game then this DLC is an absolute no-brainer, it offers more missions to play, a great new character and loads of new weapons, equipment items and hats to play around with. The best way to enjoy the DLC is by having it installed from the beginning of your playthrough but it's thoroughly enjoyable either way. The DLC includes: A new playable character (Which I really like and use as my second character) New missions (Always nice to have more to do. They seem to be a bit harder than the game I think) New weapons and gear Stylish new headwear For the last 2, I really can't tell what's new or not as I bought the DLC off the bat. If you want a cool new character and a few more things to do, I'd say go for it!

SCORE: 8/10 The game itself is nearly perfect and a total gem, the DLC is fine and reasonably priced. I enjoyed the character of the outside. If you love the game, it's a nice addition. You can play fine without him and he is in no way OP. I love the devs and everything SteamWorld.

Really excellent character addition, with a great backstory. His felt like the most nuanced story in the game, and was well worth the DLC, becoming my rapid favorite to use while still being balanced with the other characters.

How to make a great game even better? Add some awesome and unique characters, missions, hats, and weapons to the mix! Let's start with Fen, the Outsider himself. A vectron with no memory, he runs on electricity rather than the steam that powers the rest of your playable characters. This allows for some unique powers and tactics that make Fen a top-tier character for any mission. The new weapons are a lot of fun, with multi-grenade launchers (when you absolutely have to kill every mothertrucker in the room, accept no substitute), beam weapons that pierce anything, multiple shot blaster pistols, and personal favourite 'the killing joke' that shoots a slow motion orb of death and destruction. There are a few new missions, and mostly they are more creative than the usual fare. The scrappers get more of a late-game presence, which is nice. Is it worth 5 bucks? Sure, why not? It's worth buying on purchase of the main game as the additional content is sprinkled throughout the normal game. That said, I played through the campaign twice: one without the DLC and once with, and it was fun both times!

Exactly like it says on the tin: New character, new missions, new weapons, new HATS! If you enjoyed the base game, pick this up! The stuff it adds is scattered throughout the campaign, so even if you haven't finished the base game yet it's well worth installing right away.

Nice little DLC that seems to bold onto the main game seamlessly (not many DLC’s do this), either way adds a few extra things to the game to add flavour and amusement. Not sure worth full price based on what you get for you cash well defiantly well worth it on sale, thumbs up!

If you are thinking of getting the DLC after finishing the original game, realize that the DLC would only useful in a new game plus. It adds new levels and a new (and very cool) character to the first section of the game. Going back there after you finished the game isn't fun anymore since your characters are too strong without doing a new game plus.

As I've said in the original review for this game, I have heartily enjoyed this short game and absolutely recommend it and this accompanying DLC for quick tactical space-romps. Though depending on your views on DLCs, you may find this one a little pricey. For those who need more specific numbers to help their decision, I'm adding some spoilered details below: A new playable character
Fen the Outsider, who comes with a new mechanic! Kill enemies to get charges and spend them to heal Fen or unleash a devastating piercing blast!
New missions:
6 new missions, 2 each in the 3 sectors from the main game.
New weapons and gear:
3 new weapons: a tier 2 sharpshooter, a tier 6 assault, and a tier 9 heavy

4 new pieces of gear
Stylish new headwear:
22 new hats! 10 from enemies, and 12 in stores.
First of all let me say; the actual game Steam World Heist is fantastic and addictive. I really hope they make a 2nd one. However this review is about the DLC. I bought the original game during the Summer Sale but didnt buy the DLC because I didn't know if I would like it or not. No point buying DLC if I didn't like the game. After playing the game and the SS is over I decided to buy the DLC. I paid 4.99 and I would have expected a few hours worth of DLC. What I got was 6 new missions and a new chracter that I couldn't max out as I had already completed the game. I would have assumed it carried on or split off from the main quest but it just adds a few more missions to the present story. I was very dissapointed for the price. Perhaps I've misunderstood how this DLC works, please correct me if I'm wrong. All in all, I played and completed the DLC in under a few hours.

Loved the original game, and the addition of a new character and 6 further missions provided some extra fun. Please make sure you understand how this DLC works, though - the six new missions are not a separate line but they're integrated into the main story, so it's best played starting a new game after buying the DLC. Fen (the new character) is the most valuable part of this add-on, with her charging abilities adding a different tactical element to the game, and her quest for discovery of her past adds some nice extra dialog. The new levels aren't quite up to the original game's quality, but kind of OK, with the sixth having a kind of annoying kind of boss fight. The new items are easy to forget, unfortunately. It's possible that the new hats are awesome, but I was utterly indifferent towards them in the original game already, so I can't judge them really. As the DLC's content is about 10-15% of the base game, a 2.5 EUR price would be more appropriate than the initial (and current) 5 EUR. Sales are not so infrequent though, so it's safe to recommend this good but not great addition to the charming quest of Piper and crew. It's also a good excuse to replay the game on a higher difficulty level :)

I picked this DLC up during the Steam Winter Sale shortly after I played the first few missions of the base game and am glad I did. I liked the new character ("Fen") a lot and used Fen on several missions. The new character has a backstory that gives a fresh angle on the enemies you'll be facing. There are some really cool animations also. The missions of this DLC are interspersed throughout the normal gameplay (not a seperate campaign), so you'll want to do a new complete playthrough to encounter the mission content. Tactically Fen's skills are quite different than those of the other members of your crew. The main difference is the ability to charge a special weapon or self-heal ability with each kill made. I used both of these abilities at different times. It adds an extra dimension to your decision making during fights and certain combat scenarios where the special skills come in handy. Anyhow, I'd say if you play a few levels of the base game and like it enough to know you're going to play through, go ahead and pick up the DLC. It's a cool part of the game.

For those who loved the dynamic strategies that every character in this tactics gave us will not regret buying The Outsider DLC. This extra content is not the same as the hats, which is something just aesthetic (I do not say that as bad, I love the hats of this game, whenever I saw a new one I did everything to get it) it gives us new stages, with a new character (it's hard not lika all of them) who has a relevance for the lore and enlarges the range of strategies that was already so great. For those who enjoyed and played a lot, this DLC will be a good choice to play even more.

More levels, same drill. Nothing too interesting, except for a few new levels, a new boss, and FEN, who's absolutely, without a doubt, the best character in the game. I'm not biased I swear Also look more hats It's also kinda overpriced for what it is but I'd go to hell and back for FEN

I'm a little torn on this dlc. The character is a blast, but with only six new levels $5 feels a little steep. If you like the base game, Outsider is a great addition. But is might be worth waiting for a sale.
