Yeah no...

Camera is insufferable with its jump cuts all around.
Text is practically unreadable, since it's tightly packed and the font is really hard to read fast especially since the text never stays on the screen longer than a second or so.
Controls feels like this title should be played on a tablet.
Audio settings are not saved when restarting
Splash screens when starting game are not fps capped and makes my GPU go crazy. 1000fps is not ok!!!!!
While I did not play the game for long, I can instantly say this game is definitely not for me. I do have to say that the game runs well and seems to be ok in other ways. I just can't shrug the feeling of a mobile game ported to PC. Overall the game feels lackluster. These are not necessarily things that would make the game bad. So even though I do not enjoy the title, I still do recommend this game, since it's a working and well running title especially for its price point. Maybe wait for patches to fix the rough edges.

This can be a fun and tense game, but the tutorial section and half of the 1st zone REALLY let it down. You can find 40 minutes of gameplay with commentary here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOGItoYBL_E StarSmashers is a turn based space combat game. Where you progress through each zone fighting a range of AI starships. So far it has always been 1v1 with the player or AI taking tuns targeting different components of the ship. As I mentioned, when I first played the tutorial I regretted paying for the game, battle with the initial weak ships are uneventful and it is not until half way through the 2nd zone (1st being tutorial) that the game gets interesting. Where the game shines is the pressure of repairing your ship, targeting components of the enemy ship and taking defensive measures during a very limited turn countdown. Close battles can be very fun, but steamrolling the AI at times has the opposite effect. There is no pause that I found, so you need to finish a section before walking away. With 5 different components to juggle, 5 weapon types (each with a way to counter or enhance) and the ability to add 2 auxiliary abilities - ship loadout can sometimes matter. I should note that so far I have stuck with the same weapons/abilities, just upgrading them, and have progressed. The tutorial and second zone took me a bit over an hour to play through, whereas the 3rd zone took me about 35 minutes. It seems the game has 8 zones in total, so I expect about 4 hours of gameplay from this title (depending how often I die). The game also has 2 game modes - normal - where if you die you can repeat the battle, and 1 life - a semi roguelike - where if you die its game over. This gives it some replay-ability, depending how much you enjoy the initial play through. The game is easy to play and being able to think and click fast is an advantage, the graphics look nice as its a unity engine game and games where the combat is close can be very fun. On the downside, the ship explosion animations are simple and the firing animations are repeated. The music - turn it off before you begin. While the menu music is fine, I have found the combat music is short and looped.

The gameplay is fun enough, but the UI is total mess...most broken thing in the game. Not only does it change your setup whenever you die but you have no indication of what you have installed in the first place...AI is subpar and unless I am missing something cheats like crazy on the later levels. Cannot recommend

This game is horrible. It seems at first like it's kind of okay. But it turns very quickly into a fight for clicking the weapon you want to use then trying to beat the timer to select a target for it. I am near the last ship on the second map and CAN NOT beat it. I get to fire once, mabey twice, but then the enemy reapirs it's hull (IF you manage to do ANY damge to it at all) VERY rapidly while attacking you anywhere from 3 to 5 times. This says it is a turn based game. While it is, it's also a click as fast you can, but don't missclick! I don't care if it's cheap. DON'T BUY THIS CRAP! The shop is a joke, to buy another weapon I need 25,000 credits. I have 2,400 but you can't replay missions to earn any money to upgrade. Once you have bought something, that's it...no return. No way to grind to get enough to advance. Looking at the disccusions shows me the devs have never responded to anything and this game was nothing more than a quick cash grab and run.

Fun concept, but it wasn't what I expected when it said turn based. So much comes down to if you can simply click fast enough. There were a few roadblocks I've hit. I overcame them by having to restart and be smarter with what upgrades I purchased. That gets tiring after the 2nd or 3rd time doing it. If it wasn't so twitch based, it would get multiple thumbs up from me. As it stands now, it's worth the price on sale. I wouldn't pay much more for it though.

Really looks, feels and plays like a mobile game. Everything you think this game is from the screen shots and description... is wrong. "High octane space combat – epic battles that demand tactical decision making and quick reflexes…" Sure, if you think choosing to attak or repair against a timer, while waiting for other timers (your weapons, etc) is "High octane..." "Ship upgrades and augments – loot new technologies and upgrade the Space Beagle. Pick the right weapons for maximum damage, and the right shields to keep the enemy at bay…" Can;t speak to "loot" as I didn't encounter any, but upgrades, sure you can make your existing weapons and stats 'slightly' higher when you have enough cash and experience... "Epic encounters – huge variety of alien races and ships, all inspired by classic 1970s Chris Fosse artwork…" Epic...EPIC, Hahahahaahahaha... Each turn you move one space along a linear track to the next encounter. There you will fight, one enemy. Then you may upgrade (assuming enough money/xp). Rinse and repeat. "Five star systems to explore – discover vibrant gas nebulae, mysterious alien planets and derelict space stations…" Can't comment. But since everything is linear, I doubt there's much 'discovery'. Effectively the game is this. You move along a single path, because there is only one path. Fight an enemy at each stop, which involves clicking on various buttons while a timer counts down (about 10 seconds), then is the enemies turn. Eventualy one of you dies, and if it's the enemy, you might have the chance to 'upgrade' one of you weapons/stats. The weapons are basically rock-paper-scissors, some do better damage to some parts of an enemy and weaker at others. Everything is on a timer. Weapons cool down, repairs take reactor energy which take time to build up after use, missles take time to replace, auxiliaries can only be used once per turn. It's just dull... The only cool part is the 70's sci-fi aesthetic, pity it wasn't used on a better game...

Too hard and frustrating as is. But I do like the "rock, paper, scissors" space fights. Kinda like "Infinite Space" for the Nintendo DS. Now that game was beatable. LOL

I gave this game all the chances I could, and I don't even remember why I bought it, but it's way overpriced for quality. I wouldn't mind if it were linear, I wasn't even entirely against the timing aspect of the abilities and weapons. I can see how to win and not have much trouble. But it doesn't save choices except at the end of fights, and never saves settings. This means I have to fix the volume EVERY TIME I open it, and if I change my weapon loadout, I need to change it EVERY TIME I go into a battle if I don't win with that loadout. I'm all for supporting the little guy, but they need to pay attention to details.
