Features:

"Outlaw Sectors" Gameplay Option: The lawless fringe is increasingly hostile, but for those with a criminal mind it's also rich with new opportunities.

Smuggling Specialization: Choose this planetary development to grab a cut of everyone's trade income - but at a cost. The increased corruption from this black market activity will reduce that planet's tax income.

Pirate Turf: Vicious when in their home sector, pirates can now raid multiple players simultaneously, drastically changing the art of the bidding war. And, just to make sure they are fully motivated to do what they do best, all credits spent on bounties will receive an automatic bonus.

New Maps

Power Struggle - Contest the distant resource fields and nearby planets before striking at the enemy’s homeworld.

Slim Pickings - Claim what remains among the war-torn stars and seize what you can from the other empires.

Crossfire - Take your enemy’s homeworlds and coordinate your assault with your ally in order to win.

High Stakes - Build a powerful fleet and seize the resource rich planets from enemy militia.

Ironheart - Flanked by an enemy on each side, you must prioritize your resources carefully to achieve victory.

Titans of Cimtar - Secure your planet from among the 8 gas giants dominating the map, then make war upon your neighbors.

Death Spiral - The system is falling into a black hole and your enemies aren’t about to let you leave without a fight.

Dogfight - Lead your allies into glorious battle amongst the stars in this huge map.

Buzzsaw - Make one mistake and you may lose more than you bargained for in this spiral galaxy that leaves no room for error.

Rising Empires - Secure your star system amidst the crushed local resistance and set your sights on your rivals’ territories.

Desolation - Claim what little the Vasari have left behind and forge what remains of the worlds in the massive cluster of stars into a force capable of conquest.

I'm very pleased Stardock is committed to their games and the gaming community by releasing periodic updates and DLC's for games they made years ago. The Outlaw Sectors DLC makes Sins Of A Solar Empire even more enjoyable and I personally recommend it.

Definitely spices up the tendency for long games to become stagnate. Some of the key things you will notice: 1) Militia, both enemy and friendly, spawning in your space and hitting vulnerable worlds. It's pretty interesting, because friendly militia will fly to neighboring sectors to help you, whilst hostile spawns will gather up and strengthen if you're not careful 2) Neutral militias on planets can build up to a large degree, making pushing against worlds farther from player starts harder to take and slowing the expansion blitz of the early game. 3) Pirates have been buffed. Their higher level fleets are a lot to handle and it's now worthwhile to buy them off or send them after someone else. 4) The new maps are very solid, and set up some unique scenarios that differ from other pre-defined maps. 5) Smuggling Specialization - I have gotten dubious use out of this, but gives a use to barren worlds and asteroids that you really didn't have before. Over all, this DLC is defintitely worth the price of admission, and in some ways is a mini-expansion in of itself. If you're only going to pick up one of the DLC packs, make it this one (Though all are worth it if you play often)

This is pretty neat, not to mention a complete surprise for a game many thought was long out of development. The militia forces add some needed defence to early rushes and pirate raids, make neutral planets harder to take past the very early game, and will even somtimtes try to attack enemy planets with you. They also put up a stop to the silliness that is one siege frigate wiping out a colony. They used to get your tech bonuses, but that obviously benefitted TEC too much so they patched that out recently. The pirates now attack two people each raid, meaning you no longer have to worry about getting outbidded at the very last second; the player with the 2nd most bounty will get attacked anyway. I was hoping they'd overhaul the 'ebay' pirate bidding system entirely, but I guess that's too hard coded into the game as this point. Overall both additions add positively to the game experience and add some freshness to the game again. There's some new maps as well for all game sizes, but I can't comment on them as I've only tried this on random maps thus far. There was an issue with TEC Rebels gaining a massive indirect buff from this DLC, but they fixed it so they can't ignore the militia anymore. Other than that there's a Smuggling specialization which isn't terribly interesting but can be used on asteroids and other very small colonies for an income boost. Overall this is a great little addition if you still play and enjoy this game. Seriouosly though, Sins 2 when?

Man talk about bringing some life into this game! I still loved each Sins game but this expansion really ramps up the difficulty quite a bit. Its a bit more enjoyable with the militia to have reinforce you and fight against your early expansions. The startouts of this game seemed to really kill my interest in playing. However, now with so much activity right off the bat, it brings purpose to building defenses and star bases and investing in your first planet. Looking back, I wish this had come out with some of the first DLC. The game feels a bit more alive and its no longer you VS several baren planets, while you build away till you can send your fleet to destroy everyone. Its a much welcomed surprise out of nowhere and an awesome DLC! Thank you Stardock. Would love to see more races, ships, etc... just for some more added veriety. Something like robots from the deeps of space reminicent of the reapers in mass effect would be my dream. My worry would be that a new sins game may ruin the formula because rebellion was great. It improved on everything that has been done right. It added much better effects and lighting. I would only want to see more of that, with more ships, and more detail if you were to improved anything. I do also wish you could turn off superweapons since the Novalith cannon is the biggest pain in the butt when I'm always playing against TEC. I'm for the Unity baby! Anyway, great stuff and much repect for Stardock providing new content!

A tentative thumbs up. Having played plenty of Rebellion, I am very excited to have new content. Outlaw Sectors puts pirates on the forfront of the game. The game is full on from the beginning. However, I am glad that this DLC came late. It changes the feel of the game and makes it more about pirates than the other factions. Happy for new content, and happy that this was a delayed expansion. I hope that the game continues to receive more content. Thanks devs.

Outlaw Sectors DLC is okay, but not 4,99€ okay. Feels like something that should've been in a free update or something on a level with small fan made mods. There's not even any new visual changes. Smuggling Specialization: Like the other planet specializations, picking this is a no-brainer for specific systems, f.ex. asteroids that have very low tax revenue by default. There's no real choice involved as picking the specialization on high tax income planets would be just idiotic. Rampant Militias: Essentially adds small randomized strike groups for neutral, player and AI planets that choose attack and defense targets on their own. If you've played AI War: Fleet Command, think of the randomized Human Resistance Fighter and Marauder minor factions. They add some minor border friction (encouraging at least small defenses at every border planet you own), but don't really create any new major gameplay changes. The friendly militias also only use TEC ships even if you're playing Advent or Vasari. Pirate Turf: Pirates can now attack multiple players, depending on the amount of current surviving players. F.ex. if there's 10 players the pirates will pick 3 players with the highest bids on them. If there's less (8 or 9 players I think) they pick 2 players. There's no other changes. I haven't tried the new maps as I prefer to play randomized ones, but at least judging by the extremely minor gameplay changes (which I do like however) I couldn't really recommend this DLC at its current price.

Brilliant addition to the game, militia on their own will make sure there are always skirmishes going on around the solar system. I found myself having to go back and actively defend my planets when I found my militia were defeated however many other times they helped me take apposing worlds. That’s not all militia do, if one of your worlds is attacked then the militia from all the connected worlds will set off to that world to defend it. This changed the pace of the game a great deal and also helps against pirate raids later on. Pirated being able to attack multiple people at once now definitely means you will have to play more defensively while expanding to other worlds, however I’ve found pirate raids easier to deal with once you have several worlds with militia ready to defend you. Overall I would say this dlc is definitely worth the price considering it completely changes how you will be playing the game and forces to think differently about how you go about conducting your strategy.

Overall a great addition to make the pirates a little more formidable, and game's militia more involved in the conflicts. The game feels more alive now with the autonomous militia - all with their own interests - fighting under your banner. One of the drawbacks for me is that the player-friendly militias don't get equipped with the ships of the player's faction to use; they're stuck with TEC ships only. Also, when playing as the TEC, it is difficult to tell how many player-controlled ships one has available at any given time, because there is no differentiation in the supply menu between your own ships, and those of the friendly miltias which cannot be controlled. This is an easy problem to fix for those who can make basic modifications to their game, but the devs should really consider a small update to make the militia units a 'unique' unit regardless, in order to alleviate confusion over how many ships are your own and how many are militia, when playing as a TEC faction.

Great DLC to get you back into the game if you have already had your fill of fun with Sins. adds some new mechanics and actually makes fighting pirates a little harder. with the new planet specialization, you can make otherwise useless planets into money makers. all complete with a small $5 price tag. 8/10

New content for Sins Rebellion is always nice. Having an awesome moddding community there were several free patches that helped modders to do even more awesome stuff. And this is, what in my opinion, it to be considered as well when looking at the price tag. Not only the new content from the game developer but - a great patching policy. How many game developers support their game for this long? How many game developers help the modding community for so long? - New opportunities for modders. - General decency of Ironclad and Stardock. There really arent many companies like them. So in my humble opinion, if you like Sins, you really should buy this. Now. ;-)

Superb addition to an already excellent game. Still the best space 4x RTS. ps.: it is fairly often on -75% sale.

My favorite dlc, this basically expands the capabilities of the "neutral" militias and increases the threat of the pirates. Best DLC of the 3 if you ask me.

Bunch of maps that you probably won’t use and a ‘feature’ that involves endlessly spawning mobs of ships. It’s more annoying than interesting tbh.

Not much in it. But also good price. So just grab it and support great DEVS. :)
