I've looked forward to this expansion for quite a bit, as it did add more character development contrast to the original one. Sadly the Chinese one (my default language) lags like hell, even though running the Jap one works smoothly (the game crashed in the expansion scenario for zhao yun's tutorial scenario, while the jap ran without issues). I'm really disappointed in the group who handled the chinese one, something like this which should not happen at all particurlary after all those ads and promos (and price isn't that cheap either) just destroys what little credit you have left, given the original was buggy as well. Seriously take the time to test it out, as a developer, anything that goes live but gives shit to more than 99% of users is equivalent to incomptent. For those who are considering buying it (that includes future English releases), I would strongly suggest waiting until there are actual patches that actually fix these problems, otherwise don't bother, what's the point in playing something that lags and crashes and is unstable as hell?

It only takes a few minutes to zoom out the map. It only crash every a few minutes. It only has a few UI cannot open. It only has a few text missing. It is an old fashion traditional game, thus it cannot recongnize your modern Nvidea video card. It is just silghtly over priced consider it gives you so many bugs for free! It doesn't always give you blackscreen, you still have a tiny little chance that you can actually start the game sometimes! So...basically, it's a good expansion. :P

I do enjoy so far. They added some interesting content would fit the game play. However the laggy issue is ABSOLUTELY terrible. 4 days after released still don't have any fix on it. Im quite disappointed. Even on their offical facebook page (KOEI TW) they still claimed that they run very smoothly in their testing environment and doesn't believe us. Let me wonder are they using NASA computer to test this piece of shit.

Dispite what many reviews of this DLC say, I've found that the Powerup Kit is a great addition to ROTK XIII. I haven't run into any problems while playing the game, and I always have a steady playable framerate. I am definitely looking forward to an english patch since my Japanese isn't the best. But overall, the Powerup Kit only adds positive features and further increases the RPG aspect of the game, which is my favorite part of the game to begin with. Edit: KOEI has announced the English verison will launch on April 26th. So for everyone complaining about the language, that will be fixed very soon. http://www.koeitecmoeurope.com/rtk13ep/

Most of the negative reviews are coming from lunch, most of those bugs have been fixed. this expenition dose alot for the game and really makes it worth playing. IMO its worth it for a few reasons - a way of life systems adds more depth to officer play by letting pick a role ( you can play as as merchent, killer, general etc), - more events, and scenarios in the later peried of the 3 kingdoms, zhuge liang vs sima yi. - more officers to play. - you can have kids - Grand strategy's in battles now allow you to set up speical battle events like rocks slide or traps. Those do huge damage and can be very useful. tons of other changes. IMO if you like the game as it is now, its worth getting.

Negative reviews have no merit at this point. The bugs have been fixed and english support has been added. There are plenty of new scenarios that lead up to the later part of the Three Kingdoms Era which the previous version was lacking in; and some new and interesting fictional scenarios. The gameplay additions almost change the game completely and give it a level of depth that is on par with ROTK X. This is a solid effort from Koei Tecmo and the current naysayers should update their crap because it does not apply anymore. (If they actually don't like the game then that is a different story, but from my point of view the technical problems have been fixed and it is fine in its current condition.)

    May 3, 2017

Most of the negative reviews displayed here are earlier critiques on the multitude of bugs and lack of English dubs. Having spent over 200 hours in total playing this game, with 50 of them with the PUK, I think I have an idea of what I'm reviewing. Fortunately, most of the bugs have been patched (although you might get an occasional crash) and English dubs have been introduced into the expansion. Honestly in my opinion, this DLC is a great addition to the core game, adding in a ton of in-game options, more officers, and events. One things for starters: You can now have the option to upgrade your officer to a certain prestige; with there being six options (Commander, military official, advisor, civil servant, merchant, and patriot). It brings a whole new plethora and depth to the game, rather than the repetitive rinse and repeat build up city, and invade. Tactics are OP in the game now, especially the new ones introduced, and they've also balanced out the whole debate/duel options; although they're still pretty mediocre compared to the ones in ROTK 11. Another good thing they worked on was the character interactions between officers, and the PUK gave a better sense of livelihood and immersion, with a lot more options being given to a character. They also improved the marriage options, with the ability to have children, which takes a couple years to grow up, and they give options on how to raise the child (which stats you want to raise), and they become pretty darn OP later on. Another good aspect is the comrade option/the ability for friends to send letters, and it comes in especially handy for the patriot/merchant class. Another thing the PUK improved upon was the administrative options within the game. As a viceroy, I can now give back cities to the ruler when the cities become FAR too numerous to handle alone. I would say this, though; officer reallocation is still a huge pain in the ass, and it wastes a lot of time, and you constantly have to do it to balance out revenue in a city. But overall, the PUK has done the core game a huge solid by not making it a huge sh*t-pile of a disappointment. Plus, like the older PUKs, we have the options to now customize historical characters (stats, abilities, etc.), events, and even create new events for the game. Unfortunately, you can't change the names for historical/unlockable officers, such as Xu Zhu to Xu Chu, or Zhang Gu to Zhang Wei; which bothers some people like me who strive for historical accuracy, but it shouldn't affect gameplay in any matter whatsoever, so it should be fine. Overall, I would recommend the PUK to people who enjoy the ROTK series. It's still pretty time-consuming, although not to the level of the thousands of hours I probably put into ROTK 11. If you didn't enjoy the core game however; I wouldn't recommend getting the PUK. Although the expansion has revised and changed a lot of stuff for the better, the core game is still largely intact, and an expansion won't change the main aspects of the game. You'll still have to grind the military/civic improvements all the time, which sucks to a degree. But in short, it's a good DLC. Most of the bugs that came with the DLC at launch have been fixed, and the DLC provides a whole lot more to do with this otherwise mediocre game. If you were to get the core game, you HAVE to get the PUK, or otherwise you shouldn't get it at all. tl;dr it's a good dlc, get it. if you don't like the core game however, don't get it

This expansion is a must. It turns an middling game into a brilliant one. I covered it in my review for the base game. I will copy over the part relevant to the expansion here. First things first -
Techical Issues
The dismally negative reviews are almost exclusively due to technical issues. Sadly, they are true. The PUK expansion brings with it serious problems that may prevent you from playing. And KOEI are fixing them at a glacial speed. Fortunately, the two main issues I faced had easy workarounds. I will leave them here, in case they apply to you - Crash at Launch - This was caused due to my antivirus software. I temporarily disable "active threat control" in my BitDefender settings and the game runs without any crashes whatsoever. Your antivrius will have a similar module. Try disabling it if you have similar issues. Unable to Open Prestige Screen - I was able to fix this by reducing the CGI settings to "low" in the game options, based on advice I received in the forum. The game is not a visual extravaganza, so low setting does not really make the game look ugly. The beauty of the graphics lies in the gorgeous illustrations, which remain unaffected. Other than those two I have not faced any game-breaking technical issues. Now to get to the good bits.
Improvements in ROTK13PUK
The expansion makes some significant additions to the base game -

Maintain your own "house", with private armies, friends and family.
Have children. Oversee their growth into officers.
Maintain your own retinue of officers - poorly translated as "comrades". They can be your relations, or relations of your relations. They hang out at your house and stick with you through thick and thin.
Train by yourself, or with others, to improve your stats. Discuss strategies and philosophies with other officers for mutual improvements.
An RPG-esque "prestige system" that lets you choose your own path to fame, as a warrior, politician, merchant etc. Gain more prestige, become famous with new cognomens, get more abilities.
Discuss battle tactics before a battle. I have not explored this yet.
Build strongholds along the roads to slowdown invaders, as well as grant bonuses to defending armies.

Problems Fixed by the Expansion
Micromanagement. As a viceroy, you can keep conquering cities. Eventually your province itself can become 90% of your ruler's kingdom - a massive micromanagement burden. In the PUK you now have the ability to give cities back to your sovereign if it becomes too much to manage. Your sovereign can hog all the good officers in the main game, refusing your request to put them under your command. With the comrade system, you can form personal relations, and bring them over to your city / province. Duels and Debates were simplistic luck based affairs in the base game. They are now a lot more tactical. Shy AI officers would rarely bond in the base game. Now you can get them to befriend each other through letters. ______________________________________ Buy this, if you want a comprehensive and unique grand strategy game, and a definitive and informative Romance of the Three Kingdoms experience, as long as you are willing to struggle through some technical issues.

Love the PUK, it changes the game so much, Buying the game with PUK is totally worth it, but i could be much better if you can edit your duel and debate character model, Horn Goblin Look General does not really fit with the game's essence, changing it will be much better.

Actually this DLC is very nice one, u can edit historical officer (Status, etc. Like create a new officer), but with DLC i got so many crash while playing the game. I can't get a refund because i played it over 2 hours, now i just hope KOEI will fix this problem, and yes i did follow all instruction like KOEI official website for the problem but nothing fix the problem. So anyone thinking for buying this DLC wait until they fix it 1st.

So i wrote a review for the ROTK 13 original edition so i thought i would write one for the exspansion now too now i have had some time to play through it and find something that could record with it The Pros The exspansion does expand upon a lot of things. They have added a job like system which you can advance in to give your warrior perks and other abilities which is a nice little feature just to make things feel a little diffrent and can be quite handy like being able to raise private troops as a general and such There is a new Comrade system which allows you to have basically a circle of friends or family. These Comrades if your move anywhere 9 times out of 10 will come around with you, Leave a faction? they will come along. Its a good way to keep some of you're closest officers with you and you get strenght based on who you befriend and what job they had. Like if i was to befriend 5 military officers and put them in my Comrade circle i would gain +10 war as well as all other comrades if i recall? i am not sure about the later. Then there is a letter system where you can introduce your friends to other people in the faction. A nice little feature that you both need to use to make your friends and other allies stronger but with due caution .if you got officer deaths on and one of those friendly to your comrades dies they may end up charging the foe essentually having no control over them and them running straight into enemy lines Then theres the tactic's screen before battle. You can basically choose someone or yourself to plan the battlefiend with traps or buffs that you need to conqueror to be able to trigger them. this can be from healing troops, to launching a poison arrow volley, to making calvary stronger in a area and really helps boost the strategy part of the game More officers you can make. now 1000 slots instead of 250 which if you like creating your own characters is a bonus as well as another 100 officers being added to the game in general The CONs I still feel theres a lack of scenarios again more so in the later area of the game. i think there is only 1 which i think is DLC too which is set in the time peroid of around Zhuge Dan's Rebellion but i would of liked to have more scenarios around this time period. or even a scenario editor so we could remake something like this in a secnario . The event editor seems a bit basic. you can't for exsample set archnemesis in it (only remove them) or break bonds of family and friends for exsample or anything like that. The edit specilization has no portrait editor so if you want to add new items to the game they have to retain the appeareence of items already in the game which i know its only a portrait but it would give any item you make at least a little bit of variaty. Without any idea what i was doing with the Edit Tactics its very easy to make broken Tactics so maybe a way for us to have a battle with an officers using the tactic on them would help show how strong/weak a made tactic has become While this is not a problem i have had many people have stated that the game is instable and crashes alot or even does not start up. Iv only had it crash on me a few times and that may of been my usual recording softwares Loilo causing that. as once i was using it and a duel happened and both players was shadow people. and other times it has just crashed in general but i have not had any problems since then so maybe it was just that? Overall it is a good game and i would reccomend it. I really do hope KOEI sort out the problems people have had with it in regards to crashes or stability as it really is a good game and the exspansion expands on much more features that were missing beforehand For those who are unsure and want to see what it is like with their own eyes i have left a link of a video in the bottom https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iz6GC338vds

This DLC adds a lot of great content to the game, but it should have been a part of the game in the first place, and is not worth the $35 on top of the base price of $60 for RotTKXIII. That is prohibitavely expensive and hard to justify in today's gaming culture. It's a far better deal to buy the package deal of the base game with the DLC, but that is $70, and still a ton of money. I would never have bought this game if I was still working in the customer service industry, because I wouldn't ever have enough money to buy it. I love this game and the DLC has indeed brought me more enjoyment, but I really cannot justify the price. KOEI-Temco's sales will always remain low if they continue this practice.

    Nov 10, 2017

The price is ridiculous. If Koei wants to change that amout of money, a least make it without bugs, but unfortunately it almost virtually unplayable, depite adding some much needed content to a very vanilla RTK13. Just DLC price for the 5 images of watercoloured general icon is almost $4. Completely not worth the value of money. Shoud have been free. I have been a huge fan of Romance of Three Kingdoms down the years. I cannot bear the deterioting quality of game comparing to the RTK of the past. I has been a sucker for paying premium price for a game (yes, even the pricy watercoloured general icon) which sometimes making you feel like that the developer just does care given the state of a buggy game. To be honest I do not feel the abilities of each general feel unique and fun enough to differentiate from one another, other than a different portrait with different stats, as the abilities generally fall under several categories It feels like a game taking one step forward and three steps back. Shame.

Full of bugs. Freezes over and over again. When it happens, has to kill the program via task manager and start it over again.

Shame.
