This is absolutely beautiful. A wonderful art tool with lovely music and an overall gorgeous aesthetic! I'm still getting used to it, but the controls are quite intuitive and the potential for creativity is great! I'm excited to see what else I can make with this. ♥

Been having a great time with this art tool/game. It's really relaxing to just mess around in, but has a lot of depth and nuance if you dig deeper. The music also adds to the overall atmosphere the game creates. You can tell a lot of love and effort went in to the crafting of this. Excited to see additional sea creatures and options down the line, as well as (hopefully) NEW PIXELSCAPES in the future. I'd love a forest one, or perhaps a SPACE edition. :D

Took like 10 minutes to learn the ins and outs of the editor, I found it to be pretty easy for the most part. I'm kinda in love with this thing, it makes me happy the same way KidPixStudio used to. Perfect to put some music on and just relax. Some things that bothered me but shouldn't deter you: The deletion tool is bad so you often delete things you didnt want to The undo cache is very small The fish placing tool could use some lower options. currently even the lowest settings put alot of fish in the scene.

I really tried to love this game. It's very cute and the music is relaxing. However, this game is not reliable. I cannot in good faith waste any more time in playing with this program. It glitches randomly when saving my work and loses EVERYTHING that I have done by corrupting the work-space and moving or removing all the items placed. Even if I have successfully saved the same file multiple times before. It has done this 3 times now. The first time I had been building a reef for almost 4 hours straight. I tried everything to recover the file but it seems to have been corrupted in the saving process. Since you have to write over the same file every time you save there is no way to save copies of a W.I.P. into any of your other 11 slots, so once it is glitched all that you have created is lost FOREVER. I was ... well ... EXTREMELY UPSET! I then calmed down and continued to try and give it a chance 2 more times and it did the SAME THING. I really like the concept of the game, but I am very offended that it has corrupted my save files multiple times and lost everything I worked to build. Sadly, I don't trust this game to do what it was designed to do. I am likely not eligible for a refund according to Steam because I played the game for too long so I won't even try... Unfortunately, I have NOTHING to show for the large chunk of my time wasted and nothing to remedy the frustration that the issue has caused me.. Buyer Beware! If losing all of your progress after working hard on something with no chance of recovery doesn't bother you, then you might enjoy this game... I may give this game a chance again in the future if I am feeling especially masochistic. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I uploaded the corrupted save file to the Steam Workshop here... http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=972176548

This is a game for only those who have hours of spare time on their hands. Not the Aquarium game I would recommend to anyone who actually exists Ok so I've decided to write a secondary part of this review because of how much of a problem this "software" has become. Ill run through the problems 1. No tutorial 2. no control menu 3. The controls you think that things would e mapped to aren't 4. "Pixelscape" more like "We meshed together some random sprites vaguely resembling generic and overused existing aquatic animals to appease no one but to sell this! Oh wait, we aren't getting money? Oh, lets leave it *$(#ty" If you are going to download this, please refrain from opening it, or cancel the download immediately. I have tried all methods of removing this from my Steam list to no avail. It re-appears in a period between 6 hours to 5 days. If you are still reading this here is more: If you think you can make a beautiful screensaver with this? Good luck getting it to actually function! The creatures constantly clip through any placed objects that are on the same layer as them or appear to be in the foreground. Many of the creatures here can be found in almost any underwater or fish themed game yes, but all the fish in this game are those stereotypical ones. The "wide variety" they may claim

Pixelscape: Oceans should be in the software section of steam as it's not a game at all. It's a 2d simulated fish bowl canvas. You can add several different objects anywhere you want, and turn on/off the fish that you want to populate your little fish bowl with. This would be great as a screensaver creator. Other than that most would probabbly get bored of this after 15 minutes. I can't reccomend this though unless you are into this sort of thing. Or if you're looking for easy achievements by all means go for that. I give it a 6 because I didn't find it fun and the art style could be better. The sounds are just ok. 6/10
I have rewritten this review to be more relevant to my current opinion about this game
Pixelscape Oceans is a calming game about building your own oceans with a large variety of ocean themed objects, and then populating it with life!
A form of meditation...
I'll be honest, this game is not the type of game you would play 24/7, but its certainly a great game to play when you're feeling off. Maybe you're thinking too much, maybe you had a bad day, maybe you're worried about work, study or school. That's right as of recent times, I discovered something about myself, ever since I played this game back in god knows when, I can't get this game out of my head. It has been placed in my heart, and I'll explain more about that. When I'm thinking of something bad and I cant get it out of my head. I start playing the games music in my head, and as soon as that starts. My thoughts just vanish, its like my mind gets numb. I suppose in a sense this game is like one of those unique things that people use to just vent away all the bad things in our lives. Some people listen to metal, some people go out on a walk. But this is my way of venting and I'm glad I found it, really I don't know why I didn't realize earlier.
My last thoughts
I really love this game, it has a place in my heart. The pixel art is absolutely love-able too. But sadly it seems this game has been abandoned. It has aged quite a bit. Like on my new pc there is a large black border on the screen, the settings does not have the resolution for it. Despite this I recommend this game. Its one of those things you'll either love or not. It only costs a few bucks so its not a big deal if you don't like it. It is still very much playable.
A thank you to the creators
I'd like to thank the developer and Spacesick for making this wonderful game. It is an art. If you do read this. I would love to be able to purchase the soundtrack, I'd love to take this music with me wherever I go. To lands beyond my home, to places unknown
Thank you for reading my review!
I like this game, but am having an issue with it and only recommend it with a few warnings. 1.) Your anti-virus might detect something. As far as I can tell there's not actually anything wrong with it, it is a known issue, I had a heck of a time getting around it but finally managed to eventually. As long as this game has been around this should've been sorted out with the anti-virus companies by now. 2.) This game should have some better guidance, it took a lot of trial and error to get much done in it. 3.) The current issue I am having is the link that takes you to the screen saver app takes you to a webpage that sells stuff and has nothing to do with screen savers and says sorry you've found the wrong place. Umm, okay. So how am I supposed to make screen savers? I would really like to know, then I can go on my merry way with this game (so long as I don't run into anymore issues). All of that aside, it's fun to get creative with it and see what other people have come up with!

So, when I saw this thing, I said, "Yes! I could finally get a video background I actually like!" However, that doesn't seem to be the case. The tool that is used to create screensavers is unavailable due to Hidden Nature Design's website (

    here

) being down. It's a shame, but I probably would've been disappointed with it, looking back, because this is a screensaver creator. It'd be cool if you could create screensavers or video backgrounds straight from an "Export As..." button or something in the actual app, but instead you can't do anything with this but make landscapes. It's a good tool for making stuff, but I wanted a video background, and I didn't find a way to get one. :\ Overall, probably don't get this, unless you really think that the act of making landscapes will be a LOT of fun. At least until the developer gets their crap together and makes a way to export the landscapes somehow.
