About the Game

Build, climb, explore and fight back against a robotic threat in an open-world persistent MMO created from the ground up for VR. This is the world of Neon Exile, a world where your actions matter because anything you build, craft or even drop, will persist in a single shared multiplayer instance of this groundbreaking dystopian world.

Will you explore the wasteland in search of enemy bases or will you stay back to defend your base from attacks? Will you collect valuable resources or will you build structures to expand your territory? In Neon Exile you choose your own path, whether you want to join a team or play by yourself, the live simulation will always be there, shaped by the players.

Early Access

The initial early access release of Neon Exile will be a slice of the game to showcase the mechanics, multiplayer systems and a taste of the environment. We are focusing on the building mechanics and the multiplayer technology before diving too far into content at this stage. As the multiplayer server backend is key to the growth of Neon Exile, this will be the most important system to build a good foundation. We will start small with a limited concurrent player count and expand as we iron out issues and develop server stability.

Features (in Early Access)

Climb and leap across the world in dynamic and immersive VR locomotion

Produce construction materials and build complex structures alone or with other players

Collect resources by destroying enemies or locating resource scrap piles

Explore the wasteland and locate the VERMIN robotic threat

Fight against AI enemies and protect your bases

Fight against other players in a PVP combat zone

Cant really recommend this game now, feels more like a prototype throwed in early access. Lets see their progress after a couple of months, maybe it will be good some day

cool but as the game says early alpha games servers are stable so no bs there my only problem is it doesn't tell you right off the bat that you can use the sliding option for movement otherwise a solid foundation for a game

A reasonable prototype that shows there could be potential in the future but roughly a tech demo at the moment. https://youtu.be/wjFw-R3WmbE There's just no content right now. The most fun I had was in the tutorial and chasing the leaderboard. If that doesn't tell you everything you need to know.... I feel sorry for you and wonder what games you've been playing that the tutorial is the best part... In the persistent, open world zone of Neon Exile, we find ourselves dropped in the center of a vast nothing. There's some scrap to pick up occasionally that fills up and breaks our inventory. There's a forge that we can craft building materials and new weapons at. Also present is a vast sea of green mist on the ground that will slowly kill you in a very annoying vision distorting kind of way. The End No, really, that's it. Are you still reading? I just outlined the entire game... Ok, ok, ok... So your inventory is odd. The scrap that you break down into RU, still seems to flood your inventory which prevents you from acquiring a large supply of building blocks to make anything meaningful. I managed to get my inventory so FUBARed that I couldn't even pick up scrap any more. This pretty much kills crafting. Run around all you want, you're not going to find any enemies. I looked for an hour and found nothing. Even pointing myself in a direction that seemingly no one had been before away from any zip lines, I found nothing. Combat is out. The locomotion system has it's share of issues. It's no where near as refined or smooth as a Climby or something similar. It's very jerky and clunky. Especially on player placed objects though I was also noticing it on the default platform. I felt like I couldn't 'walk' I had to 'jump' everywhere. Climbing is meh. Those were pretty much the 3 key features the game was trying to sell. The server holds 100 people right now. The Steam page implies there will be one server that every player will play on. If there's a 100 player cap, that's unlikely... To me that seems dishonest but that may just be me. There are a number of bugs/issues at the moment in addition to what I've mentioned already. Aiming weapons, missing options, lack of direction or motivation, no other players. As an early Alpha title these are to be expected. However! This game is currently $25 on Steam in Early Access. In my personal opinion, Steam EA is not the place for a game at this stage of development. I think Neon Exile has potential. It's just going to be 6-12 months before it's in a state where it should be up for sale on Steam IMO. Not everyone is going to share my opinion of Steam EA and what qualifies but I just don't think a tech demo/prototype that's not really 'enjoyably playable' should be there. Definitely not for $25. I haven't fully decided yet but I'm leaning towards a refund at this point and making a note to check back this time next year. Right now, I'd say hold off but keep an eye out.

Neon Exile so far is a small game but also very interesting to me. I was intrigued by the game when i first heard about it a while ago and decided to jump on board now that it released in Early Access. It is a persistent world where you can build, gather scrap for resources and traverse and explore a bit of the world. The landscape itself is a large desert with cliffs and rocks and broken metal foundations scattered about. There is also a zipline network going a fair bit out from both the spawn points. Of course there are also some threats to keep in mind. A thick acid fog covers the bottom of the world and enemies called the VERMIN appear from time to time. So far i have enjoyed zipping about, building, gathering scrap and fighting off the occasional VERMIN. It is quite basic at the moment but if you enjoy a relaxing game where you can build in a large world this is pretty good. The building controls can take a bit getting used to but is easy enough to use when you get the hang of it. You pick up the parts you are building with and align manually with your hands. There is a snapping feature so walls and floors are easy enough to build. The same can be said about the movement. I have only used the default grip movement so far and i find it quite enjoyable. When you swing your arms down you jump into the air and swinging to the sides or forward will propel you through the air in the opposite direction. It is easy to learn but hard to master. If you are interested in the game from seeing the trailer and screenshots and reading about it i would recommend keeping an eye out for it but if you are really interested in being along for the ride and ok with there not being a lot to do in terms of combat and only some basic building blocks like support beams and walls then i would say jump on in! I know i can't wait to see what comes next.

Oh Man. So the only reason i haven't praised this game yet is because every time i go to the store i just play it instead. Very good at minimizing movement disorientation Expansive map being added to and worked on frequently. (just ask a dev in game or in discord they are super friendly) Really fun building mechanics. If you like to explore you should try this game. Make sure to find me far south of A spawn XD

Very high potential, active Devs that actually play their own game, and it's pretty fun! Only complaint is the lack of players, but the Devs host missions that act as community play nights.
