Alright, Im gonna post this with the admittance I'm not really a *fan* of visual novels (though I do play them time to time just to kill a few hours if I dont want to focus on an action game/MMO) and I've so far only been through Kira's route I picked this up because steam suggested it and it was cheap. At first I found it incredibly forced and cringey. You're a college aged naive and purehearted woman who's been sent to live in your wealthy relative's mansion and be waited on by a bunch of hot young guys. Because this is Japan and of course you do. I found the premise of it, as well as how sudden and over the top the flirting and touching was, pretty over the top, but as I continued to play, things started to tone down a bit and by the end of it, I found it pretty sweet. The art is fantastic, and while I didn't like Kira so much at first (I cant comment on the other guys yet), I was pretty fond of him by the end of his path. Things I was less fond of- the music is incredibly repeatitive, and loops at a rather jarring spot. The character you play as is just a little *too* 'cute' and 'purehearted'. But this is Japan where Im living with an actor, a model, and an idol waiting on me, so what do I know. There's several grammar mistakes, making some lines really hard to understand. For the price though, it was fun and I'll have to get to the other paths soon. The cringeyness of the beginning may just have been specific to Kira.

Hilariously creepy game. Love it. Though the protagonist is really nothing like me at all, so kinda hard to relate. It seems like the main characters in a lot of this dev's games are all that way too. Kinda submissive and awkward and...well...idk, stereotypical Japanese female? @___@;; Wish there were more guys to choose from and possibly a female maid but then it wouldn't be a butler-centric game, I suppose. I played through Kamizaki's route on my phone before so I knew what I was getting into when I bought this. Honestly this one surprised me with how much I enjoyed Kira's route. He genuinely surprised me in a good way as opposed to Kamizaki, who surprised me by turning out to be way more creepy then I had hoped he'd be. Yonekura was pretty much standard fair. If you've ever read a romance novel from the 70s or early 80s (the ones where the guy's a bit of a sadist or bully, the heroine is meek and there's almost always a teary misunderstanding in the final few pages) then that's pretty much Dogenzaka Lab VN's in a nutshell. There's a certain level of silly disbelief that's needed to enjoy them, but overall they're fine. Playtime inflated by forgetting to turn it off a couple of nights. I'd say running through a happy and normal ending takes roughly two to three hours per guy depending on how fast you read and whether or not you're into their archetype. Forever holding out hope for Kirishima and Kagurazaka routes in the future.

Another poorly written, sub-par VN/otome from this developer. Only good thing about the VN is the art. Not worth the full price asked.

    Sep 15, 2016

There are only 3 route options, but quality/fleshed out characters wins out over choosing from a group of clones. The BGM is a really relaxing bonus; moreover, of all the games I've played from this publisher, the art in My Butler is a cut above the rest. Waiting until a sale levels your purchase off at 8$, can make it easier to justify. The characters are celebs, you will not receive the true butler experience, this game's clearly designed to play into fantasy. How the MC even falls into this situation is "out there" but who's playing these games for a flawless plot alone? If you're able to roll with the initial quirks, the rest of their stories have satisfying depth. Though the game's more sultry than average, its content isn't exceptionally graphic - the sensuality is just a more often occurring theme. Heck, the sado labeled character was really harmless; where as the "pretty" boy's boldness surprised me more. If you're approaching this with the right expectations that comes with casual gaming, such as desiring to be escorted into the fun world of Otome reverie at its strongest, this product delivers.

Do you like your romance with a dash of assholery? Then this is the game for you! All three dudes are ridiculously possessive to the point that two out of three call you their possession. The third? He wont let you talk to other men without him there to "translate" for you. The heroine is meek to the point where she actually tells the dude she likes the borderline abusive behaviour. "That's just how he shows his love". If you can deal with that then maybe you'll enjoy the game. But be warned.

    Dec 27, 2016

I enjoyed this game, however I cannot reccomend it. The plot and overall writing is subpar. I constantly found myself thinking I was reading a teenage fanfiction as some of the romantic scenes arose. Not only that but the personalities that were the main focus of this game for the boys are poorly written and cliche however they can be sweet but are horrible possesive if you arent into that sort of thing. Honestly this game is great if you aren't in it for some form of plot/ character development because while the boys supposedly fix themselves they really dont and just keep their originial personality. The whole thing is quite irritating and while I was not originally looking for lewd content the way the game is written makes you think you know sure DO IT JUST GO FOR IT BE LEWD it just never gets there which slightly is irritating considering how much it constantly builds to it. This game by far is not the worst thing in the way of otome games but you can definitely find better if you are looking for story and solid personality characters.

This game is trash in the same way a shitty chickflick, bad smutty one shot manga, craptastic soap opera or gratuitous anime is. The main character is barely a character, the men are all dumb pretty jerks and it's pretty misogynistic. That being said, I love this in the same way I love a bad B-movie. It's a beautiful train wreck that makes me giggle and cackle as I play. There are so many forced, stupid, implausible scenes and the characters are unbelievably awful, to the point that I'm sure this game is somewhat self aware. If you are someone like me who likes this sort of trash, get this game on sale like I did. Like, for sure not full price, but this game has its place for people with a bizarre love of terrible things like this.

The name of this game should be “My Psycho” or “My A-hole”. Because that’s what those guys really are, just maniacs trying to abuse a stupid MC that can’t do anything on her own. The guys are “butlers”, yet they treat the MC like garbage and she’s totally okay with that because that’s “just how they show their love”. The story is boring, the characters are annoying, and the art style is a bit weird, the guys have huge hands that look like bird claws. How sexy. 0/10, I only recommend this trash if a) you want to play it to laugh at how horrible this whole VN is or b) you enjoy being treated like crap by mutant bird men. Otherwise, avoid this like the plague. There’s plenty of otome games that are a lot better than this one.

I'm well aware this company doesn't have very in-depth or... well, GOOD games... But as someone who loves maids and butlers, I sorta pick these kinds of things up to try them anyway. It's not very good, unsurprisingly, and once again the CGs are bland and the characters look pretty horrendous. When you have mysogynistic love interests who are sociopathic in some way, with a blatantly stupid and standard MC, I'm not gonna relate to anything the story or characters have to offer, and I'm essentially going to get ticked off. I feel like the men in this barely act like butlers at all, like, don't just slap 'butlers' on there when all you're giving me is shitty fanservice and no ACTUAL SERVICE. Butlers shouldn't be disgraced like this. Also, if you're actually looking for smut, don't bother here. You're significantly better off going and reading ___ x Reader fanfiction on AO3, to be honest.
⠀⠀Before I could ask their names, they took me with them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀This is an Otome game where you can romance an Idol while you stay at your aunts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀This is a typical crappy VN with an even worse plot and plenty of cringe. Summary: You are the niece of a very wealthy aunt who owns a talent agency. She asks you to do a job for her. You are just walking, when out of no where, two men approach you and you just go with them. Yep. Once at your aunt`s home, it turns out that her job is basically you living inside her luxurious mansion for the next 3 months while she is away on business. You are met with these butlers, and have to basically judge them, like in a talent show. These "butlers," who are all "idols," have taken a break from being their famous selves because they apparently suck with the ladies and your aunt wants you to learn them a thing or two about how to treat a lady. Yeah, I am not kidding on that one. 🤦🏽 🌸 Art style is appealing.... ⠀⠀⠀⠀Very smooth lines and very lovely looking characters indeed! I very much enjoy ⠀⠀this style of art compared to Pub Encounter for instance. They are more visually ⠀⠀appealing. 🌸 Butler idea is nice(albeit very overdone trope)... ⠀⠀⠀⠀Hell yeah, I`ve always wanted a cute boy to be my slave to do whatever I want. ⠀⠀⠀You don't have to lift a finger and these snarky dudes get to do all the work for you. 💔 ...HOWEVER, FREAKISH ALIEN HANDS HOLY SHIT. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The boys are all drawn decently attractive, yes! BUT DEM DERE SPIDER ⠀⠀⠀FINGERS ARE A HUGE NO FROM ME, YO. There is no reason for them to look ⠀⠀⠀that long or for their hands to be so disproportionately massive! Are you sure they ⠀⠀⠀are not aliens? They probably stuck their fingers in your mouth to prep for the butt ⠀⠀⠀probing later on I'm sure. 💔 ...but not executed well. The reason they are butlers in the first place is stupid. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Yeah, sure, otome games might have premises or storylines that are not ⠀⠀⠀very "good" or cheesy, but this one is the worst by far. I know I love bad things, ⠀⠀⠀but this made me feel physically ill. lmfao, no please. 💔 Music is sooo annoying ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀It`s not very relaxing. But I guess thats my fault for leaving this game up in ⠀⠀⠀the background while I did other things as I couldn`t keep playing it. 💔 Very limited character paths. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀I would like to assume they will add others, however seeing as it is 2018 and this ⠀⠀⠀game came out in 2016, that is not very likely. You can only select 3 boys, despite at ⠀⠀⠀least 5 being shown. 💔 Very CREEPY advances? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀I decided to go with Makoto. He was quiet and very handsome and is apparently ⠀⠀⠀a childhood friend.
It`s apparently been 10 years since I`ve seen him, and he sticks ⠀⠀⠀his fingers in my mouth no less than 30 minutes after re-meeting him.
o k dude. And ⠀⠀⠀his reactions are like...??? Not very romantic or cute at all! He had to have popped a ⠀⠀⠀ boner as he stuck those probes in my mouth, PLEASE GAME. And, its painfully ⠀⠀⠀obvious he has
been in love with me since we lost contact over 10 years ago. ⠀⠀⠀Him trying to hide it hurts.
lmfao I know I`m taking a massive dookie, but this game already made me feel yucky. I think I`d rather re-date Soichiro from Pub Encounter than attempt to finish. At least he was interesting and really knew some freaky shit, boy, let me tell you. Maybe these butlers should go talk to Soichiro cause he sure knows how to treat a lady. 💁🏽 You might like this game for the memes, but even that was too much for me.

Well, I have to say that this game wasn't bad at all. It was a bit shorter than what I'm used to, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. Each route, in my experience, was approximately 2 hours long, which is pretty decent. The art style wasn't my personal favourite but it was better than a lot of visual novels and it wasn't badly-drawn at all. I didn't really find any of the character designs particularly appealing but the characters themselves were written fairly well and weren't overly bland or exaggerated. I have to say Kamisaki was best boy for me, I was definitely taken aback by how intense he got sometimes though, wasn't expecting that from this kind of otome lol.
I mean, they were were all pretty possessive, but man. That was borderline yandere. Not that I mind uhuhu.
I recommend My Butler if you like butlers in anime, if you like the idea of dating someone famous, or if you like anime boys with crass personalities. I'd also recommend it for those who just like a chill, slice-of-life setting with very little drama or plot twists. I prefer slightly more in-depth otomes myself, but this one still delivered on everything you'd play this kind of game for: nice CG's, passionate moments, hot 2D boys telling you they love you, happy endings, etc. I don't understand why there are so many bad reviews because this game was pretty much marketed as showing these guys to be unpleasant; all I can really say is maybe don't buy if you don't like arrogant, sadistic, cold or possessive dudes? Anyway, my verdict: satisfactory. I bought it on sale in a bundle, and although I don't think $10.00 USD is too much to ask for, there are other VN's you could spend your money on. It's certainly an important part of any Dogenzaka Lab collection, though!
  • Vesper

    May 7, 2019

The negative reviews aren't wrong, but hey, some of us are into that. The three men are two sadists (one arrogant kamidere, one the secretly sadistic prince) and one clumsy tsun/yandere mix. They all ignore the heroine's agency and their behaviour is abusive and definitely in non-con territory. If you don't like that in a fantasy, skip this game, and probably skip Dogenzaka Labs in general. For the folks like me who like our fantasy dudes to be possessive, sadistic assholes, this isn't bad! It's a quick, cheap one-shot game, you won't fall in love with it or the characters or story, but it has some sexy moments and a few decent CGs. Buy it on sale, it's fine for playing the characters once, but won't have you going back or obsessing over getting every route like better otomes.
  • kairuichan

    Oct 19, 2019

Less of a romance, more of a test of tolerance. I could barely make it through one route, but I managed. The art is fine, but the CG's aren't anything impressive unfortunately. (I pretty much got 2 face close-ups for Makoto's route.) As for the writing, it was quite a ride. Everything was straight to the point. It was extremely awkward in every way. All in all, this isn't so terribly bad if you catch it on a 50% off sale, but I'd never pay full price for it because the routes are only 4 hours (including sequel and date scenario.) So you're looking at a total of maybe 12 hours depending on your reading speed.

Ive only played 2 of 3 butlers (Shohei and Makoto)........ and I'm very disappointed. I didnt read any reviews before starting the game but, Im glad Im not the only way that feels like this game could have been better. First issue: When reading the prologue, the game forces you to pick 1 of the 3 guys to help train you to be a lady and in-turn you help them respect women. The game dialogue says that at the end of 3 months we grade them. How are we supposed to grade them when we can only focus on 1!!!! This is when the game has 3 not so different game story-lines when it should be 1 main story-line with options effectively taking you to youre chosen guy. Granted, depending who you pick, the areas you go to can change. But that can still work that into a 1 main story-line game..... If youve played the game youll know what I mean. Second issue: As stated before, the butlers are meant to help you become a lady. This should have been a bigger part of the game! Makoto helps you ONCE with knowing the correct order of dinnerware. Thats all I got. The story was more about the love aspect of things which I will go into shortly. Since the love was all the story cared about, I didnt get to see the development of the guys becoming butlers (other-than being asked to sometimes do a chore), and I had no development of the main character becoming a lady. The event I was being 'trained' for (christmas party), ended being so short and almost useless and no feedback from other guests. Even lines like "look at that young lady, isnt she just so well mannered" would have ok. But we had none of that. Both dudes I picked were fixated on being stuck onto the main character like glue. If they werent near us for a second, then they would be told off. Im sorry if i am wrong, but a butlers job isnt to be glued to the master at all times and to help undress them or bathe them by getting into the bath as well when first meeting. Youd think the guys would have had a crash course. Third issue: All the guys have UNATTRACTIVE PERSONALITIES! So creepy and clingy and it doesnt flow well with the story line! Makoto starts off pretty cute, but then becomes possessive up to the point where he needs to know what you and another butler talked about, you need to thank just him and not anyone else for group efforts as he'll become a little bitch if you dont. Shohei was a creep from the start. I did kinda like how he states at the end of the first chapter that he was just 'acting'..... but he doesnt get any better. Even after telling him off, he doesnt improve and consider what youve just said. The guys are more frustrating than anything. They also treat the main character like a piece of shit and as an object. I'd be more fine with it, if they understood over time with what they did was wrong. But nope. If i had the options, Id be failing all the guys and be telling them off constantly. Which brings me to... Fourth issue: THE PACE OF THE STORY IS GARBAGE. The butlers get feelings straight away. No reason other than "there was something about you" or "when i first saw you..blah blah blah". Even Makoto could have gotten to know the main character after being apart from each other for 10 years. The falling in love happens waaaaaaayyyyyy too soon. With what the prologue had set out to be, the love should have happened towards the end. Not in chapters 3 or 4. The main character gives in to them way too fast and you dont get any options to turn them down for any ridiculous behaviour. The main character states to other butlers that its ok because thats how they show their love. If you like being treated like shit by shitty guys then this is your game. This game had so much more potential and I feel like the developers could have made a really good story if they hadnt stuffed the pacing or the intelligence of the characters. Rant over.

Another poorly written, sub-par VN/otome from this developer. Only good thing about the VN is the art. Not worth the full price asked.

This one is fun, cute, and engaging. It's not too short, and the characters are varied. It's a game that romance seeking females could sink their teeth into.

Rant over.
