DO NOT BUY THIS This is the first Steam review I've ever done in all the years I've had a Steam account. I thought this product would be a good start for someone that doesn't have a lot of experience with music production, especially with the amount of samples that comes with it. I opened the program and started to look at all of the different sounds and it was great, especially the movie samples. However, as soon as I tried to put them together to make any kind of song, it would crash on me. It kept saying I was out of memory, when I have 16 gigs and this is only supposed to only require 2 . It was crashing within 5 minutes of opening the program. After my 4th crash in less than 25 minutes, I finally requested a refund. I'm really disappointed because I was really looking forward to using something like this to help me get the hang of things. *UPDATE - Since I spent time looking at all of the sounds/features and not making a song right away, I was past my 2 hour refund time. If I had tried to make songs right away before I knew how to use it, I would have known that it wouldn't have worked and I could have gotten my money back. Now I am stuck paying for something that I can't even use.

I told myself that i would not write any review on here, but this program is one of the worst $119 i have ever spent. $119 for a software that doesn't even start. what are waste of money

Before purchasing this Software, I read about some bad reviews. Still I wanted to risk my money on this impressed by the video demonstrations and interface ignoring all those negative reviews. I just wanted to know what was exactly wrong with this software and why it incurred so negative reviews. But I am sorry to say those reviewers were right. Cons: 1. It is indeed an unreliable and unusable piece of software though it has some nice features. 2. It simply behaves erratically. Crashes and freezes many a time even after the recent update. 3. Slow start up even on a latest fast desktop pc with a m.2 ssd and huge RAM and a powerful cpu. 4. Audio engine stops all on a sudden and you have no idea why your tracks are not responding, 5. Try to record your voice and sing along, and get a free crash or freeze. ( and I tried all the driver options) 6. Upon clean reinstallation, you might find your loop manager and associated contents are completely missing unless you intuitively do a reset from the setting. Restoring default docking option and enabling hidden window from view menu won't work here. After a reset you need to show "all loops" ( including midi and wav). 7. Same record toggle button for audio and midi. 8. latency issue while recording simultaneous tracks. 9. Lags while adding a loop or sound. 10. I guess you can't get a refund if your "playing time" exceeds 2 hours after installation. Pros: 1. Great for beginners even with no knowledge of music. 2. Easy drag and drop instant music creation. All fun when it works. 3. Nice set of loops and contents. 4. Comes with many interesting features like vocoder, Remix Maker 5. Soundpools have different genres so you can instantly mix styles maintaining the correct tempo and pitch. 6. Good set of DSPs. 7. Easy editing, automation once you know the mouse shortcuts. 8. A nice "generate speech from the text" function inside an audio track where you just need to write the text to convert it to a "voice". So buy it if you're not into a serious professional project and want to help some programmers who are trying hard to learn how to develop a good, stable and more importantly a usable software that won't let you down in the midst of a serious ongoing project. Perhaps someday they will achieve their goal. Good luck. And stay 500 miles away from it if you're on a budget. :)

After many hours of testing I finaly used AISO4ALL driver. Now I have no crashes no matter what I throw at it. Works well with MID controlers. Its now more stable than a professional DAW I own.... Love it!!

march 2017 Needs a monster computer, crashes a fair bit save early save often, incremental saves 01 02 03 etc. Has some amazing features. Bought this on sale and its well worth it. This program is deep! Very very cool program for the price. Hope they keep updating it and sorting out the bugs. Huge potential in this program... yuge.

I wanted to like this and in a way i liked the functionalities of the software, plenty instruments to play and a lot of loops in the library but unfortunately i can't recommend it, i was about 10 minutes of the refund window when i created my first loop using one of the instruments just to realize the lag and the unresponsive play button after creating it, not even the default loops worked anymore. Tried to restart and reloading but the problem persisted and with already 115 minutes on the counter and only 5 more for refunding it's too short to try to find a fix at this point.

EDIT FROM 2020 - I NO LONGER RECOMMEND THIS SOFTWARE. I've tried again several times on a new installation to get this software to run as intended, but it just isn't stable. Give it a shot if you'd like, but I no longer will try to get this to run stable. I like the program. I really do, but much like other users have stated, the program can be very unstable. Would I buy it for $119? No, since that money can be placed somewhere where you get much more stable software out there. For $35? Yeah sure if you've got spare change (And a powerhouse?) Tell you what, As soon as you run the program, jump into the settings and tweak the audio output. Magix, what were you thinking? Taking complete audio control of the system? No no no no. Not flexible... but interesting? I'm no music creation person, but do yourself a favor, switch that output to a different one... Let windows handle it. THAT will reduce the bugs and crashes a load. Heck, before I switched, It would crash every time I tried to undo or delete an object.

after around 24hrs of use- I use to love this software but my God the extreem number of errors, latency and hanging it is just torture..!! After around 300 hrs of use So I still use this daw as you grow you learn to use it... I still would say if you are serious about your music production buy Portools r abelton r Cubase there is more creative freedom but Magix is not a bad place to start. For example i can not record a song were the tempo for the 1st half is 120 and then i decide to have a part in where the tempo is like 90. R i cant reduce the Click sound of the metronome. and y does the metronome not count me into the recording, what i mean in other DAWs i click rec n the metronome plays 4 clicks to count me in. i cant rec Vocals and midi VST at once. i can go on n on but i still stand by the fact that its a good place to start n you can do a lot with it. i got it for 600 INR which is like 10$ USD so it was super super cheap but i saw what their website was offering it at the time which was 22000 INR = 300 $ if that is the case please close your eyes and buy Portools r abelton r Cubase which are around 500-600$.

Absolute crap, not for the composer who likes creative freedom. %90 percent of this app is using premade loops and content and just sticking it together, like making a movie out of someone elses clips. There are ways to input your own music, but they don't make it very straight forward and that is certainly not what this software is geared toward. Also, this software broke my audio drivers. Every time I open windows now, even after a restart, nothing will make any sound except of course this dumb program. I just uninstalled it and strangely still nothing has sound. I am getting very annoyed. After I fix the drivers, I will try one more install to see if it stops being broken crap, but honestly I wish I could get a refund on the software and the soundpool I bought. Speaking of soundpools, I bought one from their website, and I haven't been able to find a way to access it so watch out.

Yearly sold software that doesnt even have access to any of the Magix store sounds, effects, instruments, etc... Music Maker 2017 Premuim sold on the windows store has access to the *DLC store assets. Just get Music Maker Jam on the windows store it'll actually have more content from all the optional DLC +free. However at this point I'd recommend not even giving Magix your money & get one of the others DAW (Digital Audio Workstations) like Bitwig, Fl Studio 12, Presonus Studio One 3, Ableton Live 9, Cakewalk (now Bandlab), Avid Pro Tools, Steinberg Cubase 9. If your a baller with a Mac look into Logic Pro X.

Used for about 40 minutes. Had a lot of nice features including a better UI over the 2014 version I've been using, but multiple VST instruments were broken or missing out of the box. Both Power Guitar and Classic Organ resulted in errors when attempting to use them, which is not a good sign on a clean install. Got a refund and am sticking with 2014...

Crashes constantly, crashes while saving so you lose all your work no matter how careful you are, randomly resizes the window to be above the screen so you can't access anything; this is laughable.

If you are looking for professional DAW software, this is not it. However, if you enjoy composing your own music from time to time, more recreationally, this is a good choice. In addition, it is also a good choice for beginners who have not worked with DAW before. Nevertheless, I recommend buying directly from Magix, especially since prior version features can be ported over IF you registered. I've used this program before it was on Steam, and have always been pleased for the most part. However, having stated that, I would personally recommend avoiding the Steam version, and purchasing the product directly from Magix. The Steam version comes pre-configured with various instruments and features, but the store functionality the exists in the Magix version is stripped out. This makes it rather difficult to add features without knowing a few tricks. One complaint is the lack of compatibility with old soundpools, to which I can attest. The old soundpool DVD's may or may not work depending on their age. The older it is, the less chance it has of working. Now, everything is purchased via the online store, which has good and bad aspects. However, I've found if one simply places the DVD soundpool data in the associated directory, then re-scans, there is a good chance it will work. It all depends on what one is looking for. REAPER is always a good choice for DAW, and there are many other good programs out there for professional composers. However, the cost is quite steep, and way beyond what a casual musician would need or want. Personally, I like Music Maker, despite all its faults, though the Steam version is lacking. I gave this software a thumbs-up because it is good software for its intended purpose. It is not something for professionals, or those looking to market their creations unless they purchase loops designed for commercial use. Keep in mind, these can be quite expensive.

Right... So. This product is amazing. I got it in a deal for around £25, which is awesome for a music program which has so many features inside it. There are so many instruments to use, VST's, different effects, and all of this is customisable to an incredible degree. I do however have a problem which makes this program insanely frustrating, and frankly unusable to my standards. When you use Ctrl+ScrollWheel on the Midi editor, zooming in, zooms in; zooming out zooms out; zooming out beyond the tracks original bar size you have assigned, causes the track to automatically be extended for no reason! I zoom in a lot and then I have to zoom out to view everything I have created in order, but if I zoom out, by just a single mm on my mouse wheel, the track will automatically increase in length. This is the most pointless and useless and frustrating feature in a music program I have ever used. If I wanted to increase the length of the individual track, I will extend it manually by dragging the other end of the track. If this does not get fixed, I will be requesting a refund due to this feature making the program unusable for me. If anyone has a solution for this, instead of just zooming out to the perfect size of the track. I might just be an idiot, and there actually is another shortcut for ONLY zooming in and out, but I have tried many keys, and ctrl is a standard in most music programs I have used.

Extremely glitchy and prone to crashes. Considering the great likelihood that you will lose whatever music you create due to how unreliable this software is, I'd stay away.

Got it as my first DAW to get an idea of what I'm doing in the music industry. Used it a lot to make beats, record songs, and just experiment. It's the laggiest software I've used in a while. Makes you reinstall it almost every time you try to launch it. The drums are extremely limited as far as good sounds go. Don't waste your time, I got it for 30 bucks and it was the worst 30 bucks I've ever spent. Upgraded to FL Studio and it's an entirely different world. I recommend spending your 30-120 bucks on midget porn because you'll find much more value. :)
