Awesome multiplayer auto-battler, with a thriving, generally nice community, and ongoing development!

    Stop waves of enemies!

In Legion TD 2 (LTD) you have to stop enemies that spawn in waves on your 'lane'. The enemies give a bounty for each kill, and with that gold you can buy new fighters in between the waves. The game gives a recommended value of your fighters for each wave consisting of the total possible value that comes spawning. Depending on the type of units you have put on your lane with all their synergies and positioning, this value can be either too high or too low. For instance, a collection of only tanks (units that soak damage well, but don't deal much themselves) will probably not clear a wave. The units that you 'leak' will attack your king! But not before your teammate's fighters that survived his wave have a chance to attack your leakage. The bounty now is shared between the both of you, and your opposing team also gets a cut! Units have one of four types of attacks and one of five types of defense. The types have bonuses and penalties towards each other, as seen on the ingame diagram, and these values aren't linear. A magic damage dealer will struggle against arcane armour, but will melt through nature armour!

    Mythium and workers

There is a second resource, called mythium. Mythium is used to hire mercenaries that will join the next wave of the opponent! Hiring mercenaries raises your income that you receive after a wave is finished. The mercenaries are dependant on the amount of mythium you spend how powerful they are. You can also choose more powerful units at a reduced income. And in this part is where most battles are fought. In recognising your opponents build to choose a wave to enhance. And of course synchronising your sends with teammate, however his opponent might be strong on that wave, so that may not be the best tactic. Another tactic is just to go for the best possible income, and deal with any opposition by shear value. You start with two workers that gather 1 mythium every ten seconds. New workers can be bought for gold. Your game is a balance between your workers and your fighters. It may be worth it to go a bit too lean on your fighters, and ahead with your workers! Purposely leaking one or two units gives you more juicy mythium, and if you are ahead on worker count, you will gain an advantage!

    The Legions & Mastermind

The fighters belong to a Legion of fighters. There are Antelean, Divine, Element, Forsaken, Grove Mech, Noomad and Shrine, each with six tiers of fighters. Originally in the predecessors of this game you chose one Legion and battled with those. But this got a bit boring, so now you play with selected group of fighters from a random selection of all Legions. This makes for much more variety in the games, and less repetition. You can still play as a Legion in non-ranked modes.

    The history of LTD

LTD was originally a custom map in Warcraft 3. I personally only knew and played the version of Starcraft 2: Squadron TD. I remember that I returned at some point to that game, and it was significantly different, with more 'Squadrons' and at some point a leaderboard. Very fond memories there, and I wish that map-layout gets implemented in this game, because I loved the shared buildingzone!

    Game modes

Ranked - 2v2 games for an ELO rating. You can queue with a partner. Classic - 4v4 mayhem! There are more selections possible of fighters, such as the fully random 'hybrid'! Can be queued up to eight people! Custom game - games can have adjusted rules, such as high income Campaign - very challenging bosses which cheat! Vs AI - of different ladder rankings Weekly challenge - very hard puzzles to defeat a wave with selected fighters. The solution with the least gold value wins! Furthermore there is an extensive tutorial, you can browse top games of the best players, and can test builds in a sandbox. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2650502603

    My experience

When I saw this game arrive on early access four years ago, I immediately bought it, which is rare for me. I have such good memories of STD, playing so many games without even a ladder! But nowadays I'm not really looking for an endless game, and not just ladder for ladder's sake. So the game shifted to my backlog. Now that the game is fully released since two months, I've got a clear goal in getting all achievements! The biggest part is getting 100 wins in one season in both ranked and classic! I'm practically done with the ranked one, and felt it was time to review this. The ladder is quite special. My first games weren't very good, so I got to bronze ELO (below 1200). Now I got to around 1600-1700, maybe I will try for Diamond 1800. For a physically handicapped player I'm satisfied, because some waves I don't have enough time to do the things I'd like to do. The players are generally kind. Every now and then you encounter someone who rages when you don't execute his plan. You are obviously the reason he isn't on top of the ladder, hehe! This game is a true gem! With a dedicated development! Do I have anything bad to say? Yes I don't understand why creating a guild is behind a paywall. They say only cosmetic items are available for money, but in that case it's untrue. Yes you can also grind like 400 games to create one, my point is that a social feature doesn't belong behind any wall whatsoever. Play this game!! 95/100

If you love TD games, Autobattlers, or the strategy part of MOBAs this is the game for you. Once upon a time there were TD games. They got boring because the towers were all the same. --Then came MOBAs and they were great, but very stressful and involved, also require clicking at exactly the right minute. --Then came the autobattlers. Which were awesome, had a variety of units, but very RNG heavy. Along comes LegionTD2: All 4 players play against 21 standard creep waves and do your best to farm/repel the waves. using your autobattler units. Use $ to add creeps to waves of your choice to make your enemy's job harder(impossible). Pros: -Not Pay2Win. The purchase of the game covers everything, except skins.(a few options vs bots unlocked with in game free currency, but not needed for MP) -15~60 second to find a ranked match. -Excellent AI. Gold plays as well as a 1400 player. -Diverse units that each play very differently. -Tons of strats and synergies, no perfect META -Very little "Luck" most plays are math, not RNG. -Decide how much RNG you want in your unit selection. A. choose a FIXED set of 6. B: Pick 1 and 5/9 randoms. C: to pick 6/10 D: Random 6 every turn. -Game lasts for 15-30 minutes. Cons: 1. My friends are mad that I stopped playing other MOBAs and mods of them. 2. I want skins for my units and mercs!

I've played 400+ hours of this game (around 600 matches) and at the time of writing I'm ranked within the top 1000 in the Casual/4v4 queue. I did not play the original WC3 mod. This is unequivocally the deepest competitive strategy game around, and it focuses PURELY on the strategizing - you don't need to maximize APM or have any twitch reflex skills. It's the purest "strategy" game on the market, and here's why- Each match consists of up to 21 waves (the 21st wave repeats and scales if the game isn't over before then). Between each wave, you need to make a series of snap decisions based on a plethora of available information and potential factors. It's not a game about agonizing over a decision and deciding on the perfect answer to it, or spending time puzzling out potential solutions and deciding on what's best. It's not a game about build orders (outside of knowing some strong early-wave combos to start out with) or perfect play. It's a game where the correct move for any given situation is going to be based on too many things for you to possibly spend time considering; the placement of your units, which units are available to you, what mercenaries the enemies sent on the last wave, what they're likely to send on the next wave, the placement and damage/armor types of the enemy's units and how they'll fare against the upcoming wave, which three randomly-selected Legion Spells are available that game, where your opposing player is sitting on the scoreboard, how many workers you have, how many workers you think the enemy has, etc. So every wave you have to make rushed decisions based on intuition. Those decisions need to be weighed both on their impact right now in the immediate moment, as well as on the impact of future waves. You need to analyze, predict, and act. Repeatedly. Winning consistently is a measure of how well you can make those rushed, multi-variable decisions, and how well you can organize and work together with 1-3 teammates who are also trying to make the same decisions. Every single match, you'll need to develop strategies and make decisions that you haven't made before, even in 400+ hours of playing. This is in part thanks to solid regular balance patches by the devs making sure no singular strategy gets too entrenched - they do a great job of buffing and nerfing to reduce generally overpowered units or strategies without making them any less viable. New units are also added regularly and using them effectively often requires thinking about positioning or composition in entirely new ways. It's a very "creative" type competitive game where your ability to win is based on your ability to creatively adapt to brand new situations on a regular basis - if you want to play at a high level you can never just follow a guide or a pre-determined strategy, your gameplan always needs to be created on the fly for each match. Something that's really fun about this is that it's fairly common to see high-ranked players lose to low-ranked players, because those low ranked players are playing inside an entirely different "meta" (basically the send vs save meta) and are going to approach situations in ways the high-ranked players aren't used to seeing. It's not a game where the team with higher ranked players wins every time. Every single match it feels like you legitimately have a chance to win - I've won against a duo-lane of the #1 and #2 ranked players because I had faced them before and recognized that they were pulling the same strategy as last time, so I was able to set myself up for a late-game that would beat their late-game - we won, because they didn't deviate or play creatively :) If all of that doesn't sound fun to you, you likely won't get hooked on Legion TD2. It's a game that takes time to find your footing in and you'll need a fair amount of experience with it to start understanding your options and the depth and complexity of potential strategies. I still had fun with it while finding my footing, though. It also contains excellent in-game coaching tools and anti-toxicity measures, far better than I've seen out of even huge-budget competitive games with gigantic teams. Among other things each player has a "Behavior Score" which goes down when they rage, leave games early, etc. and fills back up over time when other players compliment you after a game (which there's a quick and easy button for) - if you're a non-toxic player then your behavior score will max out and you'll get increased rewards from matches as well as generally being matched with and against other players with high behavior scores. If you rage or alt-f4 mid-match a lot, you'll be matched more often with other players who do the same. You can view a large amount of stats about your play history, including breakdowns on exactly how effective specific units have been for you - stuff like this is hugely instrumental in learning how to strategize better, but you have to be the kind of player who autodidacticly takes it upon themselves to read and interpret stats to really benefit from it. Anyway to make a long review short: There's no other competitive strategy game in existence with an active playerbase that is actually about *how you adapt to situations given a large amount of variables and a short timeframe to consider them* instead of being about studying the meta, build orders, specific unit stats, higher APM, etc. Legion TD2 does something no other multiplayer strategy game does - it's the only one where the entire game revolves around your personal on-the-fly creative solutions to problems - and that's true even into the top ranks. Highly recommended for anyone into that idea (Also some other reviews call it "pay 2 win" but there's literally nothing you can buy except for cosmetic skins for your units or your UI, and it does not follow the mobile gaming addiction model of player engagement, it doesn't cover the screen in ads for its cash shop or provide incentives to visit the shop every day or anything like that.)

Highly recommended for anyone into that idea (Also some other reviews call it "pay 2 win" but there's literally nothing you can buy except for cosmetic skins for your units or your UI, and it does not follow the mobile gaming addiction model of player engagement, it doesn't cover the screen in ads for its cash shop or provide incentives to visit the shop every day or anything like that.)

love the game. would like an endurance mode, where you play against an ai with unlimited health. most matches i play are over before level 20, and would like to see what lies beyond that horizon.
