Why is it a cheap, lousy game?
In 8 hours of playing, I lost count of the number of times the game crashed or hung on me. It was about once per level. Save every level! Several times! And there are plenty of non-crashy bugs, too. Fortunately, restarting the game and reloading is fast. The game uses few assets (mostly free), so comes across as bland, especially at first. Save, load, & level-load doesn't save the currently-equipped weapon, so you have to keep switching from the pipe. Sometimes dying will take you to a game over screen; sometimes to the beginning of the level.
Why is it worth playing?
It seems to be essentially a single-dev indie game FPS; priced low because that's all it is. There's a very traditional selection of weaponry (melee, pistol, shotgun, smg, assault rifle, alien weapon, grenade launcher), though I never really used some of them. Ammo and healthpacks are plentiful. Keybinds are the usual PC ones, though can be changed through a config file. Fully voice acted. 22 levels of action. Story isn't stellar, but serves to drive the action. Music is good and thematic, though the changes of music can be jarring. Atmosphere overall is good: I was successfully jumpscared many times, by critters I *knew* were there and was waiting for, in levels I'd played a few times before. Sound cues to warn you of upcoming enemies are a nice touch, because they build the suspense. The game gets quite a bit better as you go along, so first impressions may not be telling. Initially, the AI sucks. So, early in the game, if you're around a corner from an NPC, they'll get stuck on the walls more often than they don't, as the AI starts out as purely "move directly towards the player": you can block them with a table. But as the game progresses, the AI becomes more complex, running away, using cover, etc. Initially, the levels are bland, featureless, and repetitive, using a single set of tunnel pieces to make the levels. But as you progress the levels themselves get more detailed, with more clutter, and more complexity. There are no achievements, so 100%ing can be considered just making it to the end of the game. HowLongToBeat says 2 hours to complete, which seems realistic, at 5-10 minutes a level. It apparently took me 8 hours, but I left it running while doing gardening, etc.
