First of all, the music is really good and it gives this different feeling while solving the puzzles. The puzzles themselves are fun to solve and even though it could take more than one try or even quite a few, the calm music would most likely stop you from raging. It's a great game to play when you just want to relax, enjoy puzzles and feel peaceful with the remnants of your grandfather. Edit: There's no steam cloud save implemented so don't uninstall it or you'll lose your progress :)

Sometimes the puzzles offer a challenge, sometimes they don't ;). The music is calming but after half an hour the music becomes repetetive and thus annoying so I switched it of and listened to an accoustic calming playlist on Spotify, that worked quite well I'd say :) Graphically it's nice, the motions are fluid and gives you a couple of hours to kill. Overall I'm happy with this game. There's no actual story line, just click and play. 7,5/10

This puzzle game is similar to a lot of others I've played on mobile. You slide around like colored squares on a board and have them match up. This version has a lot of similar ideas to others I've played in the past, and it has a couple of new ideas, which is good. What I like most about this variant is that the number of moves you make doesn't matter. This is always a source of frustration for me whenever I play these games when they demand you solve the puzzle in the fewest amount of moves to get 3 stars. Where this game excels is in its polish. The graphics are crisp and the game feels great. However, what I like best is the beautiful piano tracks playing in the background. It makes for a very relaxing experience while working your brain. Overall, very highly recommended if you like these types of puzzle games.

This is beautiful and fun. I object to the three star grading concept. I'm trying to have fun. I'm not applying for a job at NASA. I can't get any stars, but I can do the puzzle. Go figure.

Completed the 1st set of puzzles and the game has already introduced a few different mechanics to keep things interesting. Reminds me a lot of the "Quell" series although they have different styles, but if you enjoyed that then I don't see why you couldn't enjoy this.

TL;DR: If you like puzzle games: Buy it, you'll love it. If you don't like puzzle games: Well... buy it nevertheless, it might very well make you like puzzle games :) I'm not an unconditional of puzzle games myself, though I enjoy good ones every now and then. With its very rich atmosphere, skillfully designed puzzles and timely introduced gameplay elements, Grandpa's Table is definitely one of the puzzle games that I enjoy playing for a while and going back to when I feel like. The very atmospheric main menu says long on the overall quality of the game and perfectionism of its (charming, judging by the credits) two developers. Drinking some in-game coffee while playing with light effects on a georgeous 3D wooden table is just a blast - even better when also drinking real-life coffee and listening to Grandpa's Table's awesome music. Gameplay wise, it's just great. There is some good difficulty for people who are got at puzzles, but it's not overly hard and people who don't want too great a challenge can also easily skip some puzzles, or solve them without grabbing all stars if they're not OCD'ed like I am. New gameplay are added little by little as you play, which makes every set of level quite interesting, and makes you want to go forward through this huge level set (5 level sets with - presumably, I haven't unlocked them all yet - 30 levels each). There's enough to play with for a few months depending on your pace, and for this price and overall quality, it's a must have.

A very good puzzle game. Puzzles involve sliding jewels on a board so that all jewels of the same color touch. If you cover certain specific positions in the board, you get stars and possibly a coin. Stars unlock special levels and you can use coins to show solutions in levels you find dificult. As you progress through the game, new elements are introduced in the levels. Levels are not timed and there's no movement counter either. You can solve the levels at your own pace. As you solve the special levels, you get mementos that tell a story. I found the game leaning towards the easy side. Even if some levels have many elements, there are not that many paths available and a solution shows itself. PROS: - Well created logic puzzles. - No timer. No looking for the best solution. - Undo function allows you to quickly go back to previous positions. - Good length for the price. CONS: - The game uses a 3D engine and is not as optimized as it should be. The loading time is not short and a couple of times the game refused to start. Not a big problem but you have to be patient at times. - The music is not bad but there are few tracks so it gets repetitive. It can be disabled. - No way to quickly reset a level.

Playing this on a 3.3 GHz iMac, with the AMD Radeon R9 M395, El Capitan 10.11.6. I am writing this review after about 2 hours of playing, and I am really enjoying the game. The mechanics of the puzzle are simple and effective, as you slide pieces around the screen to make matches. The puzzle designs are great. I will often be playing a level, and be sitting there thinking, I don’t get it, this looks impossible. Suddenly, I will move a tile, and everything falls into place as I spot the solution, leaving me with a big smile of satisfaction on my face. There are a lot of puzzle games like this for sale on Steam, but what really makes this one stand out is how polished the game is in it’s graphics, sound, and atmosphere. A lot of puzzle games will rely entirely on the puzzle itself to carry the game, and not put much effort into the presentation of the game, but Grandpa’s Table goes the extra mile and provides a nice setting for the gamer. Just click on the coffee cup at the corner of the table, you’ll see.

I love to see quality development like this being done on Linux with open source tools! The game is extremely relaxing with wonderful music. It has a short story you can piece together that is beautiful but very melancholy. The puzzles are not overly challenging but not always too easy either, it took me about 6 hours to reach 100%

Grandpa's Table is a relaxing puzzle game, in which you slide tokens with different colors/symbols across the board, in order to connect every piece of the same color/symbol. If all tokens of the same color/symbol meet horizontally or vertically, they flip over and you can't move them anymore. Additionally, you can collect stars in each level, by flipping the tokens over the designated spaces on the board. If you do well enough, and finish enough levels/gather enough stars, you might unlock bonus stages, as well as find special items, which tell the story of the titular grandpa. The game is presented in a pleasant, 30's-inspired style, with appropriate wood texture and object models (although I'd love to see the rest of the room in this aesthetic!) The calm, quite nostalgic piano music that plays in the background also fits the mood, and doesn't distract from the game at all. If you're looking for an enjoyable little puzzle game, look no further. ;) Grandpa's Table features over 150 increasingly difficult puzzles, sometimes even throwing a new mechanic (solid blocks, holding spaces) which will surely occupy you for a while. Especially the bonus challenges, which can get really, well... challenging! The later bonus puzzles are truly unforgiving, especially if you want to grab all of the stars. Fortunately, the game features a quick board reset button, in case something goes wrong. The game also features trading card and achievements, if that's your thing!
For more puzzle game reviews, news and everything puzzle-related, follow Puzzle Lovers and check out our Steam group.
grandpa's table doesn't do anything that hasn't been done before in sliding/matching puzzle games, but it's a very charming game with 150 puzzles, none of which are insanely hard but some of them will surely take a while to figure out. simply matching the same tiles isn't necessarily hard, but the trick is to cover all 3 stars on the board, that's how the rating system works. thankfully, there's no move or time limit and you can undo to your heart's desire, as long as you solve a level, even without any stars, the next one unlocks. all the usual suspects are here, movable blocks, unmovable blocks, breakable blocks, locked blocks, traps, teleporters, and it's actually worth going for a better solution. getting at least 9 stars of the possible 12 in every 4 levels unlocks a bonus stage, there are 6 in every chapter and completing them (even without any stars) gets you a memento, something your sweet old grandpa kept to remember things by. these are all stored in the drawer of the table, you can look at them and find out what they represent, and piece by piece they tell a story. what's more, perfecting the first 3 chapters leads to something else, won't spoil it but it was a nice touch, and since the last level I solved was the final bonus stage in chapter 1, it served as closure. from a technical point of view it's far from perfect, but it's clearly a labor of love and it shows, the whole thing gives you this warm, cozy feeling, even the imperfect english text, and there are small details, you can click on the coffee or the lamp, etc. I wish it had a brightness slider, I found it a bit dark, nothing you can't make out though. the music is relaxing and I really liked it, a few piano pieces that I didn't find repetitive or annoying even after several hours, though your mileage may vary. and while a volume slider was added after release (another nice touch, it's a slider on the radio, part of the room, as it were), alt+tabbing doesn't mute the music and turning it off in the game doesn't stop sound effects from playing, but those aren't of the annoying variety either. as I said, there's an undo function and holding the button rewinds progress further, no need to keep pressing it, but if I could change one thing, it'd be a reset level button. animations are relatively slow, movement, zooming and fading in and out, which isn't a problem while playing, but if you want to get back to the start, it can take a while based on the number of moves made, so sometimes it's faster to go back to the main menu, click level select and restart that way. also, there's no exit game button anywhere, esc brings up the exit screen, and that's about it for the negative aspects. it's a relaxing, moderately challenging puzzle game with a lot of charm, a good amount of content and a fair price, definitely worth playing and going for a 3-star rating on every level.

Very relaxing, easy-to-learn / hard to master puzzle-game. + beautiful artwork + good learning-curve for the puzzles, from very easy to hard + relaxing vibes from music and surroundings + has a cup of coffee in game - This is a puzzle-game, if you don't enjoy puzzles, don't buy it (obvious but has to be said).

    Jan 3, 2020

Grandpa's Table is a movement / positioning puzzle game, with nice, ornate visuals, moody music and heartfelt, melancholic storytelling. Unfortunately, the puzzles themselves are not quite up to par with the near-perfect presentation - the variety in mechanics is quite limited, and then they generally outstay their welcome by being used in too many levels. As the game's levels are sequential (ie. cannot move forward before solving the actual level), you can't even skip the not-so-interesting ones. Still the game is mostly fun, and the bonus levels (one per 4 normal levels) are generally more interesting, but the game feels like grinding out 3-star solutions a bit too often. Recommended - but be warned.

Prof.Vaharrak's Curator Group - Almost 30 years of gaming experience at your service Simple game, clever and with a beautiful atmosphere, the puzzles revolve around sliding tiles on a table to join them, if you manage to slide them into the right positions you earn stars which unlock tokens that you can use to buy hints for later levels as well as unlock "secret levels" with just a notch of increased difficulty that will net you mementos, fragments of memories to relive your grandpa's tale. Speaking of difficulty, it ramps up quite adequately, you never feel without an idea of what needs to be accomplished and how, every few levels new elements are introduced in a simple yet effective manner that teaches you the intrincacies of the element and then proceeds to integrate them into further levels and encourages you to explore the possible solutions to the puzzle, if at any moment you feel you could've done things better, you can either try again or simply make use of the handy Undo feature provided by the game. It's both fair and challenging in equal measure as far as puzzle games go. For it's simplicity, it's quite brilliant in its atmosphere and presentation. Very recommended to all relaxing puzzle fans out there!
