Brilliant simple to learn, and insanely difficult game to master! This game will offer you extreme satisfaction when you get past those little hurdles that have killed you and made you start the level over.. but it will also cause you to wanna smack yourself in the head when you goof up and get "kilt" (killed), especially when you almost had that darn level beat! You'll find yourself wanting to keep playing it over and over and over because it does have that addictive quality because no death feels "cheap" and you know that there's always a way to get past every hurdle. Here is my livestream gameplay and review video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PJpcosLhl8 I scored this game at an impressive 88% score using my unique indie game scoring system I always use when I review this games with my first impressions reviews. This game is not for everybody, but I do believe that fans of these sort of old school, super challenging games will very much appreciate it and it's brilliant game and level design.

IMPORTANT: This review was written for the older version of this game. the dev contacted me that a new version was made so if i have the time for, i will overwork this review and sure try the new version. As for now, again: this review was made for the OLD version!
A very clunky Boulder Dash Clone...
Oh boy, after the ORIGINAL release from Boulder Dash on Steam failed for me in many ways, i saw this game which looked like a more "old school" Boulder Dash and i thought i give it a go, for not even 1 Buck, what could go wrong?
It is Old School and its hard and i would love it if...
From the very first moment i kinda enjoyed it. It pretty much looks like a old School Boulder Dash and is also that kind of "hard" in the difficult. The problem i had with it are mostly 2 which makes it kinda not enjoyable, for me at least... I am a very big fan from the "original" Boulder Dash series beginning on the C64 back at 1984 and played a lot remakes, clones and like (look for my steam review here for the Boulder Dash Steam version if you dont trust me in that case...). This game here tried "hard" to come "as close as it could be" to the original Boulder Dash. The problem is that the controls are very very clunky. I know, a lot people would complain now and say "BUT BOULDER DASH WAS CLUNKY AND HAD A GRID MOVEMENT!". 1. I know that. 2. I mean not "clunky" by Boulder Dash standarts, this game has controls were the character dont act right. I often pressed ctrl + any movement button (the character should stay still and i only should be able to dig one gird next to me by doing this) to dig only a bit forward but the character still moved forward, i holded my ctrl button already so deep on my keyboard, I nearly destroyed my left ctrl button. Next to this it feels not only very clunky, the character self is just...a..."blob"? I guess? I mean i like kinda everything from the "artstyle" of this game but why is the character you play a blob? I mean, come on, a little figur or something "like" Rockford would at least be nice but a simple blob?
So is it worth it?
I hardly say, NO, for now. Its not like its to hard or to difficult (hey its old school hard and thats nice.) but if i srs nearly destroyed my left ctrl button only that the character does not react in the right way and i still move forward and normaly shouldnt, i can hardly recomment it. The controls should be more "fluent" to be honest, even for a simple Boulder Dash clone /- Standart. It gives a lot free Boulder Dash Clones out there which did it right with the controls, maybe you should take a look around. EDIT: Just to add this part, for me its not important how a game looks at least if i can see the effort or it doesnt hurt in the eyes or something like but it should have good controls which are in this case very very clunky.

i brought this game - soo far excellent but the line that sold this game "must be OLD to enjoy this" well you dont have to be old but if you are old enough to remember boulderdash and rockford then you will love this - this is a pretty good homage to this classic genre and so far it hasnt disappointed

    * REVIEW EDITED DUE TO THE MAJOR RELOADED UPDATE 2022 * Now I can play on my Windows 10 laptop and on my Windows 10 desktop w/o issues. The tile size seems to adapt to the desktop resolution and doesn't stretch anymore *woot* Caves have either been polished or replaced by new ones. Controls feel fantastic now. Life limit is history. Dev added a campaign mode where your progress is saved. Time limit can now be switched off in practice mode. Even the animation when eating dirt has been improved. Played 11 hours since update w/o any issues. Fantastic retro feeling, played games like this in the good old days. 7/10 --> 9.5/10 ( added 2.5 points due to the mega update )

It is a very good game overall. The levels are challenging and it has the promised oldies vibe to it. I have played many Boulder Dash clones over the years, this one is definitely one of the better ones, however its tendency to ignore keystrokes really kills the fun.

If you've already enjoyed Boulder Dash, rest assured that this is a very polished and playable variation on those mechanics. This is clearly made by someone who understands the appeal of Boulder Dash. If you are not a Boulder Dash player (and maybe even if you are), you're getting into hours of frustration and grinding in a real-time puzzle game that will kill you over and over again for your slightest mistakes, but therefore also reward you with a huge sense of accomplishment when you figure out a solution and nail its execution.
