It won't launch! It's telling me to insert disc 1. I obviously can't do that on my laptop!

    May 23, 2022

There was an annoying error asking for to INSERT CD 1, and other bugs of the game. If steam did not fixed at the time you bought and try playing. You need to install something like Daemon Tool Lite to simulate a driver if you don't have one or need to simulate it. You also need to fix the graphics inside the game if it is not correct and even change the GK3.exe file for some from internet that works. Steam will for sure fix them in the future. So out of these problems ans playing the game. It is nice. You get used after some time to move around using keyboard or mouse. Do not expect something like GK2, there is not real actors but the voices are great. My feeling playing this is that you definitely will need to use a walk through to not become a skull in your desk trying to solve SIDNEY mysteries and maybe others. As it is an old game, old technologies I cannot compare it to recent ones. For the ones who like this type of adventures, detective stories and mysteries, I super recommend.

I absolutely love Gabriel Knight 3. But the Steam version is broken to the point that you cannot even start playing it. The gog.com version is working fine and is even better with dgvoodoo2. So buy the gog.com version and ignore the Steam version. I tried contacting both Activision and Steam but both have so far done nothing to fix the Steam version. Activision refuses to accept responsibility for the problem and said i should contact Steam. Steam so far has said that i need to contact Activision. I'm still in contact with Steam but since i agree that its Activision that has to fix this, there is little hope for a solution. How to **** is it acceptable that Activision still sells a broken game? If you do not want to fix it, fine but stop selling it then.

I will make this as simple as possible, without these steps the game wont work, which is a shame because its a good game, first step get daemon lite free edition and mount a drive, very easy, doesnt have to have any additional files or software. Start game, right click for settings, go graphics, untick the incremental rendering, and change driver to software render, this is the best your going to get it, you dont want to go down the road of mods because they simply dont work well. Doing these steps prevents insert disc 1, prevents graphic flitters, prevents crashing and is the best performance your going to get in its simplest form

    Dec 17, 2016

The game is really good, fueled by a strong and well-researched story, great voice-acting and strong characters. On the other hand, you have a rather weak game design (Game wont progress unless you read a number of historical references, which feels arbitrary and forces you to click every single hotspot in all available areas) and dreadfully outdated 3D graphics with laughable textures. It does not take well to Windows 10 either. The game crashed constantly on me. Changing to software rendering fixed the problem and made it stable, but the already poor visuals suffers heavily. All-in-all this is a great game, but the already mentioned problems requires a lot of good will from the player. Still well worth it for fans of the Gabriel Knight series though!

Don't waste your time and money. Just played through GK1 and GK2, and both are great games. I'm sure this one is too, but the game has multiple technical problems. Out of the gate I had to find a work around for an issue where it wanted me to "Insert CD 1" in order to play. After that there was also awful screen flicker. After finding a work around for that I found that entering a new area crashes the game more often than not. All in all unless you have a lot of patience or just really really want to play this game I'd say it's best to avoid it. There are probably other less buggy venues to pick this one up through.

I bought this game without having played any of the others. First time I played this game was when I was 5 years old back in 1999, my mom used to play it and I got to watch and try a little bit myself. Of course I had no idea what I was doing, but it meant a lot to me to play it with my mom. Its been almost 3 years since my mom died of cancer, buying this brings me nostalgia and memories from another time when my mom was younger, with good health and happier. Thank you for the port Steam and Sierra, it brings me joy to play it again and remembering my mom.

Loved this game as a young boy. I still love it, a great story and atmosphere. This version of the game is filled with crashes, glitches and graphical problems. In my honest opinion: this is the hardest game of the whole GK - series. Pros: + Total nostalgia + Music and voice acting. Music is magnificent, atmospheric and enjoyable. Voice acting by Tim Curry, pure gold. + A great story all in all + Unique atmosphere, Jane Jensen can write and create always something different. + Again a great Gabriel Knight game. + Some puzzles were great to solve - following with funny or interesting results. + Rennes-le-Château is a beautiful environment for this game, with spiced occultism and mysticism - it is great. + Moving the Camera + Great adventure game - one of my favourites. + Classic, even with now outdated graphics. Cons: - Very hard to play this version, because the game keeps crashing. - Some puzzles were almost impossible (for me at least). - Very flawed, this version contains high graphical errors. - Constant crashing - it seems the game doesn't like Windows 10. - Outdated graphics- I had to play in software renderer mode. - Technical problems are so high in this version, that I wont recommend to buy this, until these are fixed. - So, all in all. The greatest puzzle was when playing this version of the game: how much I am able to proceed in story, before game crashing. ***/***** [ 3/5 ]

Outstanding game! Outstanding series! If you enjoy the classic point-n-click, give this one a shot. If you like it, try the other two games. If not, move on. Rather than writing separate reviews for each game, I'm going to briefly cover the entire series in a few paragraphs. With their love/hate, yin/yang, brain vs. brawn relationship, Gabriel and Grace steal the show! I can tell series' creator Jane Jensen really enjoyed using this to spruce up the character cohesion and back-n-forth banter. In my opinion, this is by far the most enjoyable aspect of the series. The stories themselves are predictable, but enjoyable. You probably won't find anything original or out of the ordinary here. The characters were always interesting though, so what they were doing and why they were doing it wasn't a huge deal for me. I will say that Jane and the dev team did a lot of research for each game's setting. Some players may be turned off by the historical and cultural detail, usually found in game texts or conversations. On the contrary, I enjoyed learning about the cultural history of New Orleans Voodoo in GK1, the Ludwig/Wagner relationship in GK2, and the Rennes le Chateau mystery of France in GK3. Yes, there were artistic liberties taken by the devs here. Unless you are an expert in these areas, I highly doubt those liberties will adversely affect your enjoyment of the games. The soundtrack for all three games are well-done. I even unexpectedly caught myself humming a few of the common tunes throughout the days I played the series. The art/graphics of each game are different. Keep in mind, all three games are based on 90s technology, so don't expect a post-2000 experience. GK1 has the classical 2-D characters and backgrounds at low resolution. Following the trend in the mid-90s, GK2 was a full FMV game with realistic screen captures. GK3 broke from both molds and placed the player in an animated 3-D world in which camera control becomes the primary exploration device. I played these games back to back to back, and the graphical switch was a little jarring. However, it didn't take long to get adjusted and focus on the game itself. The gameplay of GK1 was what you would expect of an early 90's point-n-click. However, what I didn't expect was the tremendous dialogue/text detail given to each and every background object. Player beware... that group of seemingly uninteresting pixels in a group of 20 other uninteresting pixelated room objects may very well be the key to solving a puzzle. This was initially a source of frustration for me in GK1. Once I accepted it for what it was and adapted my approach to exploration, things went much smoother. Mostly because of the improved graphics, the 2nd and 3rd installments of the series are much more forgiving when it comes to background objects. Regarding the basic inventory puzzles, I never caught myself thinking "That makes no sense whatsoever..." during the Gabriel Knight series. There were a few puzzles that require some out-of-the-box thinking, but the rest made sense. This was a nice break from wacko logic that dictates many classic adventure games. When something changes in the story, even something you may deem of little consequence, revisit old areas and retry actions again. Keep this in mind if you get stuck (especially in The GK2). I'm guessing this was a complaint for the first two games, because GK3 does a great job in cluing the player in regarding time-related event changes. Finally, each game has at least one difficult puzzle that requires attention to detail to previous in-game events, forethought, planning, and trial and error. Jane and the dev team did an excellent job with these, especially the Le Serpent Rouge puzzle of GK3. That one was masterful!! However subtle, the games give you the clues you need. It's up to you to put the pieces together. The Gabriel Knight series is overlooked or ignored on many of the "Best of..." lists for adventure gaming. Even though some some critics may think it wasn't worthy of high accolades, I believe it well mixed most of the ingredients classic adventure gamers love in the genre. I was always looking forward to getting home from work and spending a few more hours with Gabriel and Grace.
