Carenado's Cessna 172N Skyhawk II is a great first-payware plane. When the 172N was being produced, customers were able to customize the 172N's panel however they liked it. Whether basic 6-pack gauges for basic VFR flying, or full blown IFR set with full radio and autopilot. However, Carenado decided to make this a VFR plane. Right off the bat, I will warn you that there is no autopilot, and it has basic navigation instruments and a basic radio. This is basically one of the perfect hands-on VFR airplane. But considering how damn stable the airplane is, with the right amount of trim, she'll fly just fine without control imputs and without autopilot either. I haven't flown IFR yet (IRL and in FSX), so I don't know if this plane is IFR suitable, but it might just be able to perform IFR flight, considering it has nav frequencies and a VOR/OBS instrument. Pros:

Beautiful model and textures
Very stable and forgiving
Wonderful for VFR flying, especially cross-country
Some features in the cockpit are movable/clickable such as the windows, sun shades, passenger seat, baggage door, etc.
Excellent sounds
Easy to fly
Goes great with accu-feel
Wheel pants are added, and you can choose a texture that doens't have them
Haven't found any bugs with the plane yet
Cons:

Basic gauges and radio stack
No autopilot
Can't swap radio frequencies
No heading bug on heading indicator (this drove me insane a first)
Panel night light is too bright
Flies almost too stable, and has a flying-on-rails feel to it sometimes (accu-feel can kinda fix this)
If you put the plane in a intentional spin, it will spin out of control and basically goes crazy if you hold it into a spin too long.
Overall this is a great first-payware plane and I highly recommend it if you are the type that loves VFR hand-flying and cross-country trips. This is also great for basic training. I give this 172N a 9/10

Only thing wrong with this DLC is the RPM indicator was taken from a Piper Cherokee.... The green arc should only go between 2000 and 2500 rpm. Other than that, great DLC! 9.9/10

Its overall a good realistic aircraft. Bought this to hold me off until I can get the A2A Cessna, but since i'm saving up to build a more capible PC for all my FSX addons, I bought this since it was cheaper and is still a really good realistic aircraft to add to the hanger.

Just flew this plane during a real world lesson today, and flew this addon 172N directly after my lesson. It's a very faithful recreation, especially with P-factor during takeoff and climb. The tachometer's green arc is too large, which I believe should go from 2000 until the red line at 2700 rpm. Highly recommend if you're looking for a real-feeling GA aircraft.

This is a nice plane to fly, but there's no doubt that it's meant for VFR. Yes, there are nav frequencies and com frequencies, but no, there's no ILS landing system that I've found so far. Also, while the left door and window open and close just fine using their respective handles, the right window doesn't open at all, and the right door and baggage hatch can only be opened/closed by Shift-E 2 or Shift-E 3. I don't know if this is a reflection of the real world airplane. The cockpit is tidy without the usual yuckiness found in freeware offerings, I just don't like the white instrument surrounds, but that's a personal taste thing. Someone has provided a dark surround for use with this aircraft that looks much better in my opinion. The engine starts very readily—perhaps too readily, even when I don't use the primer. It's also no A2A plane, though I expected as much from the price. Personally, I think it's worth the price I paid (50% off). One wrinkle I struck with this plane doesn't refer to the plane itself, but rather the manual. The last page of the manual duplicates (roughly) the previous page, with the only difference being a note that the aircraft is fictional and for simulation purposes only. I think some content got missed off, and I'd love to see this corrected some time in the near future. The content certainly doesn't reflect the depth of the information available in the original Pilot's Operating Handbook, it's—barely—enough to get you off the ground and back down again. Very well trimmed and so very easy to fly, even as a beginner. VC is also very good. But it's no plane where u change a thousands of settings while flying. So it's a perfect beginner plane in my opinion.

I do not know how to use this add-on. I bought it in order to increase the look of my cessna dashboard. I have paid for this add-on and reached out to ask for support when i couldnt see any changes and i have not received an answer. Does this add a plane to my choice of planes? i do not see that there is a new plane added. I also do not see any changes to my existing cessnas. Due to not seeing any change or a new plane and not receiving any clear instruction i asked for a refund within 4 hours, but my refund request was denied and no one explained to me how to use this add-on. When i download the manual for this add-on all i see it control instructions, this does not help me because i do not know howto add the plane. How do i use this add-on, can anyone help since obviously i am not getting a refund?

This 172 add-on feels old and outdated. The stall characteristics are laughable. The climb rate at 76 knots at sea level is well over 1,000 feet per minute at standard atmospheric conditions in the sim, but the real world plane will only give you approximately 750 feet per minute. Don't use this for training. Just skip it and get something like the Alabeo C177 Cardinal, you'll like it better.

Really pleased. Carb heat and smooth flying makes it perfect for a beginner who wants to learn to fly by checklists. No autopilot - perfect for the VFR enthusiast. No noticable drop in PC performance - a great step up from the stock 172. No fancy 'damage' and 'maintenance' functions. I like the included "paper" checklist - more realistic than an electronic one you just tick through. A bargain purchase.

I just bought this add-on and it was a bad decision. The inside view of the cockpit it's pretty lame for the price. It was not worth the price at all. It's wired because most of the reviews are positive that's why I bought it.
