The Boeing-Vertol CH-47 Chinook™ is a versatile, twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter. Boasting top speeds of 170 knots (196 mph, 315 km/h), the Chinook ™ was faster than contemporary utility and attack helicopters when it was introduced in the 1960s. It is one of the few aircraft of that era such as the C-130 and the UH-1 'Huey' that is still in front line service with over 1,179 built so far. Its primary roles include troop movement, artillery emplacement and battlefield resupply.

Virtavia’s FSX: Steam Edition of the Chinook is a faithful reproduction of the aircraft featuring various animations, authentic flight dynamics, and high res gauges. A great aircraft for helio fans and military aviation fans alike!

Note: this aircraft does not feature a 2D panel.

As a pilot and a avid FSX Player. The FSX version of the CH-46D is awesome. Most people will find it challanging at first(with using a stick / full reallisim and gyro/rudders) as they should because its takes everything to master this one of a kind beautifuly piece of machinery.

The CH-47D Chnook was designed as a high proformence transport helicopter and i can say that this add-on lives up to that. I found this both fun and relativly easly to fly (I fly on full realisum) and the instrument panel is easy to get around and not that complex. The design of the blades cancel out the torque for the most part so as a resault you have sensetive anti-torque pedals and this also means that most of the horsepower coming from the engines is purely to keep the helicopter flying and not keeping the torque at a operational level which for conventional helicopters is about 20%-25% of the horsepower. So the end resault you have to be sensetive with the collective at low altitudes as you don't require so much power out of the engine to stay level and this can make it very easy to make mistakes when apparoching a landing zone as you have to be very precise with the collective and the cyclic in order to keep the optimal decent rate. Overall i enjoy flying this helicopter and from what i can gather it is fairly realistic but take that with a grain of salt as i have never flown a helicopter outside of the simulator.

First I'd like to point out how to open the cargo door for those who dont know already. Hold the SHIFT key with the E key down for a second then release and press the number 2. The cargo door will open to its first midway open setting, so when it stops opening just press the Number 2 key again and it will unfold the ramp. As long as you dont hit any other keys at this point you can reposition to the mid-way opening setting and then back to closed again. Note that this works on ALL FSXse aircraft doors as long as they are designed to open. SHIFT & E then a number will open and close a door, number 1 always being the main door. About the helicopter itself, I feel its missing a lot more than is offered but on %50 off sale i believe it is worth it. Its flight characteristics are quite different from traditional helos since this has no tail rotor. This presents certain challenges that may take some getting used to. Slowing this beast down takes some practice and may be difficult for some, but that should be expected. After a little practice I think anybody can master this great chopper. It does fly rather nicely. Issues I have with this are more about technical capabilities or certain lack of functioning switches, but that could just be me being nitpicky? I dont like that you cannot make any cargo weight adjustments at all. You only get the option top change the 4 stations or crew weights. making any work around weight adjustments beyond the average crew members weight results in a overweight aircraft for some reason? basically this CH-47D is only capable for carrying 4 soldiers including the crew......HUH? All in all and even considering the negatives I still enjoy flying this and recommendn it IF half price.

Overall, I enjoy this download. The virtual cockpit (VC) could have more usable switches. However, there are just as many usable switches as the standard Westland on FSX. I actually think they did a great job making this helicopter's VC! The helicopter handles quite well (if you know how to handle it). I saw other reviewers asked about lowering the rear ramp... The controls are below. Please note that you must hold the Shift + E then release that combo and then press the number if you want it to work. Essentially, don't push everything at the same time. Lower the top portion of the ramp: Hold Shift + E and then release. Then press 3. Lower the middle portion of the ramp: hold Shift + E and then release. Then press 2. Lower the bottom portion of the ramp: LAND! Then, hold Shift + E then release. Then press 4.
