Fruit Ninja is one of the oldest and most famous smartphone games and it is surprising how entertaining and time consuming a smartphone game can be in virtual reality! Just like with Angry Birds VR, which is also one of the oldest and best-known smartphone games, Fruit Ninja VR allows you to experience a completely different and new way of playing, what was previously only controllable with 1 simple fingertip, is now completely in 360 with complete body movement and insight from your aim point. Watch a short gameplay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ij7GlP1of2U In Fruit Ninja VR you have to cut fruit with your swords. This sounds simple, but as soon as bombs come into play, it suddenly becomes a lot more difficult. This review concerns the Vive version, but the PSVR version is identical. Virtually the same game modes are available in the game as for the mobile version. You've got Classic, where you don't drop any fruit and don't hit any bombs. Here you have to survive as long as possible. You have Arcade, where you get powerups in addition to the fruit and this mode has a time limit. You also have Survival, where you are also not allowed to drop fruit, but here flying robots shoot the fruit at you. The last mode is Zen, the most relaxing mode, a bit like a workout, where you can just smash fruit for a certain amount of time without fuss. Fruit Ninja VR is an entertaining game for in between or when you are short on time. It is also an ideal introduction to VR for people who are unfamiliar with Virtual Reality.

I have never gotten into this franchise but my wife asked if this was available for Vr a few weeks ago. I just saw it pop up on the Vive Subreddit (great community there btw) and purchased it to suprise her. So far...she hasn't had a turn. Obviously....I had to test it first! It was much more fun playing than I ever thought it would have been. Not sure if it has to do with VR but I had a blast. Then I discovered the Arcade mode...thats even better!! I hear that the devs are going to put additional features, some new to the franchise for VR and that might add some additional value for the veterns. It runs great as well (using gtx 970). Be carefull though, I just broke my first wrist strap on my ceiling fan. Edited because I before E except after C...thanks phxrocker Update 8/4/2016: They just released a Survival mode and it so much fun! It is pretty hard as well. This is very different from any other version of Fruit Ninja and these little Helecopter baskets with a mounted cannon shoot fruit at you. Eventually, if you survive, more and more show up. The fun is when the bombs start shooting at you as well. Those you have to duck and dodge. Really fun and so worth the price!

Very good addition to the VR catalog. I find this game kind of funny... At least 7 years years I remember this game being "cutting edge" technology on mobile. Now some time later I am playing that same game in VR feeling the same thing. I have a lot of hours into Zenblade and I am not here to compare the two games. I am here to say they are both very different for being the same kind of game. Fruit Ninja VR allows certain liberties like being able to cut Fruit with the back end of the blade and cross blades without collision. Very enjoyable game with much replay value. It will be a must on the demo list when people come over to try VR for the 1rst time. Here is my Sword Setup for any game Sword related. Having the grip and ability to two hand is pretty awesome! http://i.imgur.com/lG3TyuR.jpg

Likes: + Blade mechanics work well! Stab fruits and use the blade face to whack away bombs! + Addictive gameplay + Cuts feel much more visceral than in Zenblade for some reason. Dislikes: - My Vive is now soaked in sweat. This game is a must if you have a Vive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbMxWBABFWI

Fruit Ninja in VR! Remember Fruit Ninja Kinect? It was difficult to see where your cuts go on a 2D screen. Besides, you are only cutting fruits on a 2D plane. Fruit Ninja VR is another interesting take in the series. This is the closest thing to cutting fruits for real. Both controllers are swords, but you can use one and leave the other on the floor or on a table. It feels more badass to wield a sword two handed. I wish they add all the modes in FN Kinect to FN VR! PS: I feel sorry for ZenBlade now...

Early access game with potential to become the best thing happened to humanity.. Reason to wait: Progression is non-exsit right now. You don't get any reward from playing. Which is a shame because these are super easy and cheap to make. Should at least have a couple of weaopn trails to keep me playing.

100% as advertised. You put your headset on, slash fruit, and fun comes out. And depending on how hard you slash your fruit, sometimes sweat comes out too. Sometimes you break your monitor. Whatever. You don't need it anymore anyway. You can't slash fruit on it.

This review is coming from the perspective of someone who runs VR as a service, so I have a lot of opinons to draw from outside of my own.. Brought this as one of the games to use with our Gaming Club's new HTC Vive. It was even the first game we played. Pros: -Simple and easy to understand. -Easy to set up. -Just like Fruit Ninja mobile, but with waggle sticks. -Nice graphics. -Runs very well on a GTX 1060 3GB with Dual X5680's on stock speeds(Not sure if the game is multithreaded or single threaded, but realistic -CPU requirements are probably really low) Cons: -Honestly, none. The game works very well for being a Fruit Ninja port. Everyone I give this game to and tell "Hit the fruit, not the bombs" gets it in 5 seconds and starts having fun.

It’s a fun game. I’m sure you know about it. This would be better if they could fix the detection between chopping fruit and throwing it. All too often I cut all the fruit just to get a strike and fail a round. It would be nice if there were more options for games like change difficulty removing bombs for little people and adding an infinite game mode just for fun. And if I’m forced to view the high scores after every round you should remove the cheaters with the impossible scores.

I dislike NOT recommending games. If I write a review, it is generally because I want to praise a game, and I have a lot of praise to give this game. I also think that $15 is really fair for a game like Fruit Ninja. But I don't recommend it. My feelings about this game are complex, so I'll do my best to explain: The game-play loop of Fruit Ninja is fun. It is a fun arcade game. It plays very much like an arcade game: it's designed to be played in short sittings and can easily be passed off to another person. This makes it a fairly good party game. You are in and out of rounds very quickly. The swords feel good to swing. It feels good to slice the fruit. At this point, you're probably saying, "Yeti what gives? Why aren't you recommending this game?" Here's the real kicker: Look at my play time. Look at every review's play time. I have spent 40 minutes across 4-5 sessions over a period of 5+ months playing this game. Rounds are timed, and you increase your time limit by slicing fruit. You don't always slice all of the fruit, so I've never been able to add any appreciable amount of time to a round. This game feels like it is designed to last 3 minutes per round. It makes it really hard to invest in the game and it makes me get bored of the game quickly. Contrast this with another arcade game like Elven Assassin: Rounds of that game often take 10-20 minutes depending on how well I do. I've had rounds that have lasted an hour. I've gotten much more value from that game than this. As it is, the spend rate of this game for me has been $15 for a half an hour of play, which is the poorest value I may have ever extracted from a game. What feedback would I give to the devs, then? Probably this: I like your game, and your ideas. But, please, please give me a reason to play your game or get more value out of your game. Playing this game feels like playing an early game-play demo of a promising VR game.
