To start off, I just wanna say this: This game even distracted me from playing Dota Auto Chess! -- Edit: Not rarely, I even prefer it over Dota Auto Chess, since it has a relaxing atmosphere, shorter match durations and is less panic-like gameplay wise. Also, it doesn't have a very violent setting. Overall it is a more peaceful game that encourages to lean back and enjoy your time playing -- I enjoy the board game, which I own. The people I play it with also like it and it certainly is one of our favorite board games. Maybe even THE favorite board game. It is a good and well balanced concept, that is unique and not over-complicated yet complex enough to provide room for various different strategies. The tutorial seems to do a good job to introduce the game mechanics and rules without being boring or repetitive. Although I knew the rules already, I had forgotten quite some since I hadn't played the physical board game very recently. The graphics are not exorbitantly great, but the design fits the game nicely and it sure wasn't an easy task to implement all the game features into a UI with a good user experience. It worked out though and I think overall it is very well done and fits the atmosphere of the board game well. Since I bought the game right away when it came out and there is of course not a huge player base on day one, I cannot judge multiplayer, but I expect it to be equally nice. I will add the multiplayer review later on. The game has some unlockable profile images for your ingame "character" and there seems to be a kind of a ranking or at least leveling system. Overall it looks like a very solid release. As a software developer myself I wanna say: good work :) It feels well thought through and I would say from project management to developing things seem to be conducted on a professional level. 10 Euros is a very fair price in my opinion, especially for supporting a newcomer that did such a good release for the launch and is such a nice implementation of a well proven board game that has brought me and my friends and family a lot of fun already. If you have any questions concerning the game, just write a comment and I will try to give you more information on request. Enjoy the game and see you in multiplayer mode :) Edit: Online multiplayer and matchmaking are nicely implemented. Today, it wasn't a problem to find fellow gamers looking to have a match of evolution. Matches last for about 15 Minutes, so its a very good game that you can play as you like, for hours or just when u have a quick break and want to play a single session.

Highly Recommended for all players, especially those who have played the board game. as of this review it has some launch day bugs, but i'm sure they will patch those out soon. Rate 5/5.
  • EntityZero

    Feb 14, 2019

if the bug in multiplayer (crash, game ends) is fixed it's the perfect game. really addictive. if the traits, mechanics etc. and the multiplayer inclusive ladder are improved and added on this might even have a long time future like chess had to change this recommendation to negative. they (mostly, still happens now and then) fixed the multiplayer bug, but now there are bugs where i cant play my cards or other smaller stuff. just not a ready version for SELLING. stay away The 1000 board game winning game is also a joke. Shipping would cost 60$ while the game was 40$.

    Feb 18, 2019

This review is based on the 1.0.3 version (which i think introduced a bug in multiplayer). Lots of good potential but the game isn't worth $20 with all the bugs its having. In Multiplayer your client isn't updating that its your turn, there is no way to refresh this and you just forfeit the game by leaving. Running with a Ultra wide screen shows the menus that are supposed to be out of your view as hanging out on the side.

This is simply one of the most amazing digital versions of a real board game I've ever played. The attention to detail with the graphics and animation really bring the gameplay to life. I love that when a whole lot of edible plants are added to the watering hole the entire scene fills with vegetation. There is a single player campaign to play through, plus various AI to challenge as well. One of the best reasons to buy a digital version of a board game (besides being able to play with your friends from out of town) is to be able to enjoy it by yourself, and so far, I've really enjoyed the single player experience. I've heard that there are bugs, but I haven't encountered any yet.

    Feb 22, 2019

Be prepared for ultra frustration when 1 out of 3 multiplayer games is buggy. You won't be able to go on as the game freeze. No matter how good you did and how close you were to beat your enemies there is just one solution to "freeze bug" - leave your current game. Bugs are just much too often. Thumbs down.

This might be the buggiest game I've ever played. That hasn't stopped me from playing over 50 hours of it, though. But if you buy it, be prepared to essentially be a beta (or alpha) tester. It's a huge mess (the people who make it are really nice, though).

The game is great, but the multiplayer mode is terrible. At times it is even difficult to start a 4 player game, someone is always not being connected to the game. And more often than not, not everyone is able to finish. It would be amazing if there would be an improvement on this soon! With no CoVid we prefer the Board Game version, but now we need this!

I own the table top version of this game, so I thought it would be cool to play with people online. And it is... when the game works. The game constantly freezes, its glitchy, and it takes forever to find someone to play with. Sometimes it just doesn't want to turn on and I have to stare at a black screen. I've spent more time waiting to play than I've actually played. I've restarted it more times than I've actually played. It is really not worth the head shaking.

    Aug 8, 2020

Fantastic game, as you can see from my hours played. Connection issues back when the game was released have now been almost entirely fixed. I see some negative reviews complaining about microtransactions, but these are entirely optional and not necessary to be competitive or for the game to be fun. It's not pay to win, because the extra cards unlock for all players in multiplayer games.
  • Marl Karx

    Aug 26, 2020

Honestly, it really cool game when I bought it. I bought it over a year ago when it was pretty new and enjoyed it for what it was. Expecting more content I came back several months later to find weekly challenges and new traits! Excited to try it out, I spin it up do the weekly challenge and it was really just "the AI gets an unfair advantage, but still isn't very smart, beat them" okay I guess. Then I want to try out the new cards, oh wait it doesn't work that way, you gotta buy them in packs... Yeah fuck this, I just wanted a cool table top game to play once in a while, I'm not buying shit for a game I already paid full price for. 0/10 fuck microtransactions ad fuck this game for having them.

Really great version to an already awesome board game. They recently added the Climate expansion DLC, which adds new cards and features to the game. If you've played the physical board game, this is a great digital adaptation (pun intended). If you haven't played the board game, this is as close as you'll get.

DIGITAL vs. PHYSICAL: + More fast paced, you may immediately play against decent AI opponents, also it's quick to find human players. + A quite good campaign which can also be used as a tutorial. + Unique avatars and tasks, creative discoveries. + Same rules. Rules are enforced. Easy to learn them with the campaign. You may test working combos for the physical game. + DLC "promo" cards are not a necessity, only an opportunity to buy. They are also not really expensive. In MP games, players who have them may contribute one, and that's added to the deck so all the players may use it, even those who hadn't bought the promo cards before. +/- Eligible targets for carnivores are highlighted. +/- Expansions are not available (yet) only "DLC" cards but it's a sign the game is cared for. Although it seems I prefer the digital one I wouldn't say so. It's a different, but also a nice experience and that's why I recommend both the physical one (with expansions) and this one.

If you want: SINGLE PLAYER, highly recommended MULTIPLAYER, not recommended at all, you will suffer way more than you will enjoy. I've never had so many problems playing multiplayer before in any other game. The game is quite nice, challenging, immersive and full of charming. It's a pity since this game could have worked incredibly well in multiplayer and I believe the success of the game would have been drastically different if they had managed to make it work. I simply don't understand... so much job with a quality game and they left it so lame... I'm kind of confused about this. This is a strategy game, a little bit of extrapolation into the real life would have been a positive thing XD

With over 300 hours in this game, I believe I am in a good position to review. As of September 2021, synchronisation issues are extremely rare (happened to me ones in about 100 games recently). If you have played this before and been discouraged by those, feel free to give it a go again! A bunch of new cards and the Climate expansion have made the game even more dynamic and interesting and there are always people around to match with. Much recommended!
