Be careful with purchasing this game, there is a .dll err with the dev work on this game. Where it is not probably balanced, causing it to crash and indicate that it ran out of mem. This is not due to your machine's RAM or the DRAM of you GPU. This is solely bad development done, either they utilise a VRAM layer within the Game engine that cause a out of ram spec. Once you receive this error once, some files are potentially dropped and you would need re-verify your files. There are workarounds, but all honesty, it's not worth the effort when the dev team cannot even properly support their own game. This is a very terrible release. (This comment will be on all of their games as it is the exact with each Eador game.)

The game is very poorly optimized with FPS drops all over the place and changing settings in the options menu doesn't actually do anything. Other than that the old galaxy map is no longer present, forcing you to play traditional campaigns. Maybe the galaxy returns later, but I didn't have the patience to find out. It's unpolished and clunky and that comes from someone who has played the old Eador to bits. Don't buy it.

some new units and minor change over master of the broken worlds, nothing more, except the most annoying script mission/scenary ever (with turn limit, yaha!), instead of a proper campaign. unless you have loved motbw to death, no reason to buy this at all.

Game is unplayable if you have Win10 or an AMD card due to CTDs after your first turn in any campaign/scenario. Might be good otherwise, but since it doesn't even work using win7/8 compatibility and I'm not willing to create a win7 partition just for this game, so I'll never know.

I'm, disappointed. Really quite disappointed. Check my hours played on EadorMOTBW (700) and you'll see that I have some experience with the Eador series so far. And why am I disappointed? Well. There does not appear to be any grand campaign. There is no day after day long campaign where you build up your buildings and troops from scratch that I can see. First campaign that I chose and I already had access to allies and tier IV buildings and had several tiles already occupied around my capital city. I mean, seriously, wtf? Instead I find myself locked into a scenario, chosen randomly by me, that has a TURN LIMIT. A TURN LIMIT. I HATE those type of games. So far it is the antithesis of the sandbox experience which Eador lends itself to. I like spending all day conquering a shard, chasing down pieces of armour sets, levelling up my heroes to try all the builds, choosing the different troop barracks to field a designer army, different on each shard. This is...refund material. But it can be salvageable Snowbird! For god's sake give us unlimited turns. Give us the campaign format of the Eador we played before! I want to choose shards to fight for. I want to start with nothing but that which i fought for from the previous shard. I want to choose. Do not take choices away from us, ever..... AND, second fight that I had after buying the game and I had 2 movement bugs; my hero and a tier 2 mob. That means I could not use that troop or my hero in the battle after they bugged out.

    Only the second fight....

This review is for random map mode only and not for the campaign. Within that scope, I recommend Eador: Imperium with reservations. I prefer to play the game on a random map with settings that effectively minimize the AI, creating a sandbox with my own goals. I like to explore the provinces, gather my forces, build my castle and enjoy an RPG-like progression of power and difficulty. I played Eador: Master of the Broken World this way and enjoyed it a lot, and I'm glad to say I can do the same thing in Imperium except with more units, events, buildings... basically with more everything. So far I've played nearly 30 hours on a single game and I'm not close to trying everything I'd like to try. I will need several more sessions to experience all the new options and strategic combinations. So why do I recommend with reservations? Just one reason: bugs. A range of serious to minor bugs continue to plague the game, and whether or not they stop you in your tracks varies with your personal system and whether or not they introduce new bugs with their fixes. To give you an example, for the first 10 hours of my game I repeatedly ran into a bug that severely hamstrung my combat performance, randomly making my units unusable while they "walked in place" during a move action. Then, a patch later, that bug went away but I had a new bug, an access violation error that prevented me from loading my game altogether. A subsequent patch (February 6) allowed me to play again without any major issues, though, reminding just how fun this game can be *when it works.* Nevertheless, I've gotten enough fun out of Imperium to give the Devs my recommendation. They need to get the bugs under control and they absolutely need to stop introducing new ones. For now, though, I can play Imperium and I'm having a lot of fun. If that changes due to bugs and it's not promptly fixed I will update my review. Update: Since writing this review I've both run into another bug that slowed me down and gone through a patch that promptly eliminated it. They finally introduced a wide-ranging fix in the game options to address the dreaded "access violation" bug that can shut down a game. For me, at least, the bug has disappeared. I've played for hours without any problems whatsoever.

Unfortunately i cannot recommend Eador: Imperium. While the base that has been there since Genesis is solid and pretty good, there were already too few new things in MotBW and even less in Imperium. Actually some of the mechanics (like turn limits in the campaigns) basically force you to rush and skip a large amount of the content and fun (getting top tier buildings and units takes hundreds of turns). On top of that after playing Genesis and MotBW its also getting stale and the new classes are in general sub par and dont offer anything significantly new. And last but not least its buggy as hell and not optimized. It crashes like a bachelor party and runs like a sloth. I did nor regret my purchase as i consider getting Genesis and MotBW for cheap and i can show my support this way. But Imperium is like Warlock 2. It leaves you disappointed because the base is solid, but not really expanded on.

Snowbird pulled a fast one on us and fired the crew that was responsible for 'fixing' this broken game. They forced it out of early release so we could not all request a refund to retaliate against them for being shady. With this being said, I am officially boycotting snowbird products from this day forward (even if they release the coolest game ever). We all 'should' to let them know how we feel, but people are fickle and tend to forget when companies do this kind of thing.

Whoever liked old series of Heroes of Might and Magic (meaning I., II., III.), you just MUST try this game. It is an outstanding turn based strategy fantasy game, considering game mechanics, ideas, campaigns, storyline and even graphics, including the developers feedback. Sadly, here comes a HUGE warning: technical state of the game is simply awful, moreover, recently there have been changes in the team who made the game and it is hard to say if for good, though it seems that the new team is trying to carry on with improving the game and fixing the bugs. I hope they will eventually fix the most fundamental bugs and improve the AI behaviour because that is another thing that should be mentioned=computer players(s) behaviour is exceptionally bad.

Funnish game, needs some work but overall I find it enticing. If you enjoyed the HOMM 3-5 games then you might also enjoy this one. AI is a little too easy to beat even on the most difficult setting, but I don't play games for their difficulty rating. It can seem a bit repetitive and could be a bit more dynamic but all things considered, I have really enjoyed my time in the game and I hope to continue to see useful updates in the very near future.

imperium is a great game ,improving all the time, worked on by diligent developers in an underappreciative market. snowbird is a commited team who listen to the fans and gamers.i wish there were more out there like them! eador imperium's predecessor eador masters of the broken world,is actually the game that brought me over to the 4X strategy genre,i will be eternally grateful for that! if you are looking for a great strategy game, enjoy tactical battles with plenty of customization options, with a bit of city building, thats continuing to evolve. maintained by maybe the only honest developer left in the world then this is the game for you...i hope you do buy and enjoy this gem of a game!

This game has good ideas and concepts but is poorly developed. After a few hours of playing, an NPC will popup and explain to you why the game is in this state... which was fine and made me happy that the development team was at least aware of the state of the game. But then they ask of you to leave a POSITIVE review on the steam store page or a BAD review/feedback on their forum page... which makes the steam reviews, on which i based myself to buy the game (Overwhelmingly Positive), false! The way this intervention from the developers turned out made me angry. Showing this popup after 3h of gameplay so that the steam refund will be impossible to get... so stupid. I wouldn't even have asked for a refund if it wasn't for that "begging for a good review" thing. tl;dr: Good ideas, poor execution, bugged, unfinished, misleading review - DO NOT BUY!

I started with Genesis, then Broken World and there is Imperium now. This is game is what HoMaM used to be. In a battle every unit counts. Loss of veteran unit is doubly painful. Finding the right mix of units and skills pays off. Warning: this review got a bit long-winded. At the beginning of a campaign you are either introduced to a given situation and continue from there with already levelled hero/es or you start from scratch (the sandbox). I was a great fan of the original mega campaign in Genesis and BW. It is sadly not present here in Imperium. But the sandbox replaces (kind of) the experience of starting with one province, your stronghold, lvl 1 hero and a land to conquer. The map is divided into provinces. Each province can be upgraded by 3 different buildings (unlocked at the stronghold). Each building can have upgrades offering additional benefits. A province is usually guarded by local population (humans, goblins, orcs, nomads, lizards, etc.). After your hero attack the province and wins the battle / or gets a deal through diplomacy option, you gain access to its resouces. These are gem income, gold income and special resources (like iron, mithril, black lotus, etc.). Gold is primarily used to buy buildings (province/stronghold), recruit units/heroes, buy items at stores and during random events. Gems are also needed for units, events and to power your spells and rituals. Each province can be explored, which can reveal additional dungeons = battles, events or special resources. One can also station units at provinces or hire a guard. There are also buildings and stores offering quests often in exchange for powerful items. One can also find schematics for special buildings. Enemy is eliminated once its stronghold is captured. The number of buildings which can be built in the stronghold is also huge and they are expensive. Better give the planning and your playstyle some thought beforehand! Units

huge number of units, each one having a description and detailed info panel
big variety of abilities
you will surely notice the difference between lvl 1 and lvl 5 unit on the battlefield
and what's more the difference between tiers [1-4] is also pronounced
Heroes

each hero has plenty of slots for items
there are 9 classes (Warrior, Scout, Commander, Wizard, Sorcerer, Legate, Pilot, Necromancer, Sentinel) not all are availble at the beginning
during a level-up one gets a boost to stats or get new spell slot or gets a new unit slot and one can select either a new skill or level up existing skill (up to 5 levels)
at level 10 each hero can branch into 4 different subclasses (effectively multiclassing into another vocation)
each class havin predisposition to certain are (like commander unlocking unit slots)
At some point your hero will become quite strong and it will have no problem to conquer AI oponents. But even then there is plenty to explore and the high level units are challenging to beat. And there is the Arena. The AI itself depends on brute force. Usually the battles are tipped in favor of AI. Either having better units or simply more units than you in a regular battle with environment. If AI gets their heroes going, they can press you nicely in hero vs. hero battles. All in all, there is a good attention to detail, the mechanics are well done. Very enjoyable game. There are some things which you should consider before buying though:

the pace of this game is slow, even a small map requires at least couple of hours to beat
it can become a bit tedious to develop your economy and heroes
there is nothing more frustrating than beating enemy lord to single remaining province - the stronghold - and being unable to beat the guard guarding his stronghold, I had to level my hero from lvl 7 to lvl 15 to be able to beat them eventually
of course there are builds which are quite strong and I tend to prefer them compared to relatively weak counterparts. Asking myself, do I want to spend a lot of time developing the hero to do something meaningful or A LOT OF TIME? Usually I go down the powerhouse path, maybe a bit more balancing should be done here to make the other "paths" worth the time too.
If you read through all of that, go get the game :)

On sale for $5.99. Cannot recommend for full price. The game has so many neat touches. My personal problem with it is it takes FOREVER to level up. In the previous version I played 44 hours for one map. Some would say replay value is great - and it is. But it becomes so tedious turn after turn, it's not fun after a while. But during the sale, by all means experience the series.

Like the game... BUT THE FUCKING POP UP MESSAGE!!! The Developer of the game decided to include a random 'event' of him popping up and complaining about how hard it is to get a game running, and woe is him for negative reviews, etc... then it force opens a review page. So here is my review... you are a twat.

Its literally the exact same game as Eador: Masters of the Broken World. There is no difference, same graphics and identical gameplay with the exact same creatures and units and the UI is identical. They repackaged the previous game and sold it as something new when there is next to no difference. Edit: So the Developer flagged my review in an attempt to silence me. As you can see from his response, the only new things that were added is 5 heroes (So many!!), "dozens" of new units, they "reworked" the hire system, "extended" the battlefield (It's a bit larger, thats about it), a couple of new scenarios and "a story-driven campaign". Like I said, next to no difference. They literally did the absolute bare minimum and packaged this as a brand new game when it really isn't. The added content would barely have been worthy of a $10 DLC. Eador: Masters of the Broken World was released in April of 2013, and Imperium was released in June of 2016. So a little more than 3 years between releases and the graphics are identical as far as I could tell to its predecessor, which was my biggest issue. Yeah, they didn't add nearly enough stuff to justify a new game, but the fact that they made no attempt to update it graphically is why I made this review. It's only my second review on this site because I'm not really that invested in doing them, but when I felt ripped off after paying only $3.99 for this game because I literally couldn't tell the difference from the previous entry I just couldn't not say something. It's also very telling that the Developer went out of their way to respond and actually reported me to Steam for "Violating the Code of Conduct" in an attempt to have my review removed. Obviously I did not violate anything as Steam has chosen to leave my review up. Cheers. Edit 2: Had to make my profile private since they are sending people to harass me now. What amazing devs. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! Let them go bankrupt.

The Good 1: Very deep 4X game with plenty of room for different styles of play - magic, archery, cavalry, infantry, etc, all equally valid if invested in properly. 2: You'll never lack for things to do because there is always a new upgrade, a new unit to unlock, a new place to explore, a new province to capture, a new opponent to defeat, etc. 3: Combat system is very trope heavy and also realistic/difficult, as things like stamina, morale and ammunition all come into play, as does wear & tear on hero equipment. 4: Cheap! I've spent more on a pizza. Mmm... pizza. BRB, must order pizza. 5: Where was I? Oh yes, many good ideas were clearly borrowed from other games of this genre and then were built upon from there. You can tell a lot of time & work went into developing the vast array of systems in play, here. The Iffy 1: Game is hard. Even at the lowest difficulty levels expect to get your butt kicked if you try to bite off more than the tiniest morsel of combat. You seriously need to spend a lot of time building up before venturing out to take even the first province or dungeon lair. 2: This, in turn, is very time consuming - especially with a large number of AI in play. It's not that the game runs slow or anything, it's just that you often find yourself just skipping multiple turns while waiting for your treasury to recover, a land to be explored or you heroes to heal & recover. Overland movement could also be faster. 3: Many people have complained about the combat getting repetitive. Apparently they haven't figured out the "Auto-Resolve" button or something. Thought, naturally, you may want to hesitate before hitting that because while you may be able to handle even on odds in manual combat you'll need overwhelming force to win auto-battles without excessive losses. 4: I've also read lots of complaints about crashing. Heck, even the game itself warns players about this. Well, it took me seven hours to experience my first crash and that was only when I went to exit the game - and I'm running it on a ten year old system. 5: The graphics are very well drawn and not lacking in effort, but there could be more QOL improvements added such as rotation, better zooming, more character art and hero avatars that reflect what heroes are actually equipped with (i.e. a Legate is always show wielding a mace even if they're using a sword). The Bad 1: The UI can be a strain on older players like myself who need reading glasses to catch all the fine print and size 6 point fonts used in everything. This could probably fixed with some resizing options, if the developers ever feel like adding that in, but right now I find myself either squinting a lot or busting out the bifocals to make out what everything says. 2: For all the vast options in settlements I'm surprised by the lack of unit customization (ala Fallen Enchantress). Heroes can still customize their gear but stock troops are still lacking in such options and rank-ups don't make a whole lot of difference, especially since so many have the mortality rate of X-COM Rookies. 3: Currently zero workshop integration, mod support or even easily accessed XML databases for tweaking. Developers, please take note of this above all else: mod support is the keystone to any game's longevity and replay value. Final Score While there is still room for improvement, this is definitely a pretty solid game... provided you've got plenty of time to kill. While this isn't one of those masochistic brutality games, there is absolutely nothing casual about it, either. Definitely a bargain at the current sale price (under $10 US) and at no point did I ever feel like I was cheated or made a bad choice in buying it. While it certainly won't not appeal to everyone, if you're a veteran 4X lover then you won't be terribly disappointed and will most likely be very pleased with this product.

Not good. Devs added new content but didn't resolve major issues. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1743955171 The game is a big mess. I am a player who played 2 previous games in the series and even I got lost in this UI and plenty of buttons/icons. Even the first campaign drops in the game with 10 level hero and more than 30 available for construction buildings in the city. What should I do, Where should I go? You start the prologue and got Pilot hero who has an ability to summon Hot Air Balloon. Maybe I am stupid, but I didn't get how to attack the nearest province. I only had option to summon a balloon. Devs, added new content but didn't do nothing with very bad UI. It is incredibly confused. I got confused. I am pretty sure new players would understand nothing in the game and wouldn't pass even a tutorial. Eador has a great gameplay and mechanics, but this part of the series is not fun to play. I recommend Eador, but play Eador: Genesis. It is the great game. Eador Imperuim isn't. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1743955081 Pros - Close to amazing soundtrack - New content: heroes, units, buildings - Deep and engaging mechanics if you can deal with a lot of flaws of the game Cons - The game is messy. UI is confused. Hard to learn. - Bad campaign design. If you start Eador New Horizons, you get new stuff one by one from the beginning. In this game you get new stuff in the first campaign and got completely confused - No difficulty settings - No ability to replay the battle after auto-battle - A lot of reviewers complain about crashes and critical errors https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1743955251
Resume
The game has a nice and deep mechanics, bit it is covered with bad and excessive UI. I expect even Eador fans would find this game messy. I suppose newcomers even could not handle the tutorial. I can't recommend this game.
