This is Dark Parables #3, which is loosely based on Snow White with a mix of other fairly tale elements, especially Hansel and Gretel as a bonus adventure. If you enjoyed #2, The Exiled Prince, you may enjoy this game even more. It is solid. Artwork is excellent, the story is remarkably well written, and even the voice acting should be commended. Unfortunately, the gameplay is a underwhelming. This is a hidden-fragment game rather than a classic hidden-object game. The puzzle mini-games are adequate but simple. All in all, it's too easy and too repetitive. This is not the best game you've ever played, but it does what it says it does. Recommend for HOG fans!

An easy game for the casual player, it does not require much effort, logic, or memory. The stories are okay, and the idea behind is interesting, however it does not have an enchanting atmosphere to make it stand out, and the graphics are very dated. The HOGs are very easy (you can find everything in no time even without looking at the lists, as every required object is so out of place), and become extremely monotonous after a while. I liked the Living Legends and the Christmas Stories series much more.

I bought the Dark Parables Package. Wow, amazing games. The graphics are so beautiful, I found myself relaxing and getting a little lost in the fantasy worlds. Lots and lots of hidden objects and puzzles that were mostly a challenge. 10 out of 10!!!!!

I bought this Game last Winter Sale as I had been waiting for Ages for this and the other Dark Parables to go on Sale and I must say I dont regret it. First of all If you havent played any Dark Parables Games I recommend you to go back and play the first one as those games are meant to be played in Order. I originally started this series because I was looking for an old Childhood Game that had similiar qualitys, to my dissapointment it is not the Game of my Childhood but I enjoyed it regardless! Dark Parables: Rise of the Snow Queen Collector's Edition comes with the Main Story, a Bonus Story and some other Bonus Content such as a little Artbook, Bonus Puzzle Levels, the Soundtrack & Wallpapers. The Dark Parables Games are so far all nice Point & Click / HO Games with a very atmospheric Fantasy Story. Take all the Fantasy Stories from your Childhood and change them up a bit this is what the Dark Parables Games basically are. Which I personally love. I enjoy seeing my Childhood Fantasy Stories once again but a little bit different. The Gameplay from this Game is just as good as the first 2 Games with the only exception that the Mouse felt a bit off in the very beginning. But you will get used to it very quickly and afterwards its not noticable anymore. The Voice Acting in this Game was just as fantastic as the other 2 Games, which leaves me a bit surprised as most point & click / HO Games have rather 'interesting' voice acting. I saw a different Option this time in the Game called 'widescreen' however it seemed to rather stretch it then making it widescreen so I just left that alone. This Game also had the Steam Overlay and has Steam Trading Cards unlike the first Dark Parables Game. To my grattitude this Game also game with a build in Guide in case you get stuck, which I personally did miss in the second game of the series. The Hidden Object Scenes where challenging but not impossible to make. Some items were very hidden and left me with a smile after I managed to find them. The Puzzles were also rather challenging some on which I just got stuck on ages and some that were alot of fun to do. The Story itself was fantastic and still left me dreaming with its great atmosphere and bright colours. All in all this game is absolutley amazing and a hidden Gem here on Steam. It also is so far my favourite. I just loved the Artstyle and the deep Story behind it. I do recommend this Game to everybody that loves HO / Point & Click Games. However I recommend getting this Game on Sale as it is together with the Bonus Chapter only 4 Hours short. I also do recommend to play the Bonus Chapter as it explains as to why everything is the way it is in the Main Story. I love this game! The story is great and well thought out, and the animation is beautiful! Dark Parables really shines in this one. It is an interesting take on the snow white fairytale and perfectely ties into the previous game. The bonus game is also quite long and fun to play. Moreover, I love the addition of the collecting the so-called parables. They are a fun thing to look out for and add more depth to the game.

Nope, I didn't play it because of that Frozen mania and references to a Snow Queen. Nope not at all. It's just that well, Dark Parables is one of the largest series in the casual world and I was asking myself if indeed, this one belongs to the early days of the series. Yep. It is the same gameplay as Curse of Briar Rose. Yep, that gameplay that bored to death and that bored to death too in Rise of the Snow Queen. But well, I enjoyed this one a little more than Curse of Briar Rose, because of the magnificient plot. You're still the Fairytale detective and this time, you must save children rumored to have been kidnapped by the Snow Queen, an evil being (well, not really evil - the best analogy is perhaps Elsa from Frozen: both kind but both desesperate enough to forget what's really good). So, now, you will try to understand how the Snow Queen became the Snow Queen if you want to make sure that she will stop trying to kidnap children. This story mixes several tales: the Snow Queen itself, Snow White, The Golden Child, The Frog Prince... It's really great how the plot is revealing itself and I wasn't really expecting the Snow Queen to be that character. No, really, that game is, in terms of plot, really well done. It's just that gameplay that is really boring and hard as some pieces are really hard to spot. Let me copy paste that part from my review of Curse of Briar Rose. You find items in different locations but the majority of them are in hidden objects scenes. That's my problem here: it's only find parts of objects, with a picture of them. Those are often hard to spot, either because they're too small or they're blending with the background. After a while, it was really boring. It's just frustrating. As for the puzzles, while they're only a few, they're often the same. While you have a map here to find where you are and to find areas of interest, sometimes, you're stuck. You really don't understand where you have to go. I'm not someone who loves using hints, so, you bet that I kinda forgot that feature. But well, I had to look at the guide which is included to find my way. And it's something that can be quite frustating! The graphics are nice and the soundtrack is also fitting. Contrary to Briar Rose, I didn't find that "grainy" screen in Snow Queen. Dark Parables: Rise of the Snow Queen was perhaps released years ago but it didn't feel like it was old. And it's maybe because it was released after Curse of Briar Rose and that Snow Queen is an improvement. You should play this game just for the story but the gameplay is for me a real negative point. But well, I will give a thumb up, though you should know that I'm kind of mixed about this game. Well, now, I'm going to play The Exiled Prince, which was released before this game. Maybe it has to do with the Frog Prince, which is tied to this story?

Game Information "Dark Parables: Rise of the Snow Queen" Collector's Edition is a Fragmented Object game. The game was developed by Blue Tea Games and published by Big Fish Games Studio. "Rise of the Snow Queen" is the third episode of "Dark Parables." Previous episodes: "Curse of the Briar Rose" and "The Exiled Prince." Since this is a collector's edition game, it comes with extra features that are not available in its' counterpart; the standard edition. The Game Review Game Visuals I wanted to mention that the visuals in the game are nicely done. The visuals can be adjusted in the game's option menu. Game Audio I want to mention that audio for the game is well done. Even though the audio is somewhat simplistic and repetitive. The audio can be adjusted in the game's option menu as well. Gameplay There are no game difficulty modes to choose from. When the game is being played for the very first time; it is in normal mode. When the game is being played for the second time; it is on hard mode. The notebook keeps track of the progression in the game. Such as story events and clues. There is a map in the game. The map is automatically given at the start of the game. There is no padlock feature that is available to lock the inventory panel in place. The inventory panel automatically comes stationary. The hidden object scenes consist of the following: Fragmented items. Some of these hidden object scenes may require a little or no interaction. The puzzles are fairly easy to solve without having the need to skip any of them. There are morphing objects (beyond objects) in the game. They are scattered throughout the game for the player to find as well. The morphing objects are used to refill the hint bar. There is a collectible in the game: Parables. There are five sets of the parables. They are scattered throughout the game for the player to find as well. Since this is a collector's edition game, there is a bonus chapter, but it can be accessed only after the main story is completed. Miscellaneous There are extra features in the game: Bonus Chapter; Wallpapers; Music; Concept Art and Game's Strategy Guide. Some of these extra features can be accessed only after the entire game is completed. There are six different trading cards to collect. Only three of those trading cards are given out by the game. There are several ways to get the rest of the trading cards: Purchased from the Steam's Community Market; Trade with friends; Booster Packs and its Booster Pack Creator. Final thoughts: I have found the game enjoyable to a certain extent. The replay value for the game is low. I would recommend this game, but not at the game's full price value.

This game is a pretty old Hog so it has it's ups and downs. I only recommend this game on at least a 50% sale. The reasons being the graphics are very dated, does not really look nice on ultra wide monitors but it is playable on a wide/ultra wide. The artwork is still beautiful if viewed however in a reduced screen size. The story is not bad (a twist on Snow White) and the voice overs are good but the music really shines! The other major drawback to being an older game in the Dark Parable series is no fast travel on the map, however the map does show where your objectives are. A good game to pass the evening but highly recommend not paying full price for it as it is quite dated looking. Also no Steam achievements either, if that is something you enjoy.
Short version: 65%
Rise of the Snow Queen keeps many positive elements from its predecessors, but also tries to be fresh for newcomers. Thanks to this combination, it is the first great jump-on point in the Dark Parables series.
Long version:
It took three entries in the Dark Parables series, but Blue Tea Games finally discovered the importance of having a plot. On the surface, they did not overdo it, because we are chasing a kidnapping witch through her magical castle in the Swiss Alps. However, the Rise of the Snow Queen hides a few pleasant surprises, including some (optional) callbacks to the previous games. The over-dramatic voice acting may be a bit much for some, but I liked how it added gravity to some scenes. Returning players will be pleased to hear that we get the same amount of fragmented object puzzles, but they do not repeat as much. Their artwork, just like the entire game, is as good as you could get in 2011. Sadly, we (still) cannot fast travel, but the backtracking is tolerable. I praised the puzzles in the previous games, but I cannot do the same here. If this is your first Dark Parables, then you will surely enjoy them. If you are here from the beginning, they will feel a bit uninspired and same-ish.

The third installment of the Dark Parables series, this story features the Snow Queen and some other fairy tale characters and continues the story where the second finished. It features many different puzzles, even new ones compared to the previous two games. You can't fast travel between scenes, but the map is much better than in the previous games. Took 2.7 hours to beat with the extra adventure included, so it's a bit shorter than the second game, but bit longer than the first. I'd recommend it more to HOG fans, not a good first piece to try out the genre.

Dark Parables is one of the BEST HOP game series I have run across and by far one of the most fun. I own almost the entire collection to date and would love to continue adding to my library. Buy the bundle or when they're on sale and you will literally have HOURS of fun. Each of these games takes me roughly 6 hours. Well worth it!

I really enjoy the story telling in this series. Dark Parables: Rise of the Snow Queen reminded me again how wonderful it is! I adore the fairy tale settings (except the giant spider in the bonus chapter) and I am also very thankful for the map to navigate the many beautiful scenes that can feel like a maze at times. Absolutely beautiful! Definitely will continue to pick up the series on sale as they are quite short to play through.

It's very straightforward for the most part, although you may have some difficulty if you're a total idiot like me. I enjoyed this particular story a lot more than the previous two, but that might be bias. The graphics are also excellent and I think it's good that you can't entirely cheese puzzles or hidden object scenes anymore (The previous two games had this issue, although specific puzzles in the Curse of Briar Rose game were different and less cheesable IIRC) which makes Hard mode a lot more enjoyable. Unfortunately, I do have some complaints I want to bring up. First of all, not being able to replay the standard story really stinks (Especially since the bonus mode is replayable in the same save) since you can't try again on a harder difficulty or explore the map freely without making a different save altogether. The lack of a secret room was also a bit of a letdown for me, since I feel like the devs had a perfect opportunity to add some tie-ins to the next game using the Truth Mirror (Since AFAIK it's the only thing we can't interact with). If they didn't want people accessing the secret room on their first playthrough, they could've locked the Truth Mirror Shard behind a secret difficulty that's unlocked after completing the standard story for the first time, similar to what the previous two games did. Even though I'm recommending this game due to its excellent story and puzzles, I have mixed feelings about the issues I've brought up earlier, so try it out for yourself and see if you like it.

Definitely the weakest of the early games. The story is stretched thin and the puzzles are more annoying than fun.
