It's a great game - a true classic FPS with a lot of charm and satisfying gunplay. If you liked "Painkiller Black Edition" and "Hard Reset", you'll also like this game!

refreshingly politically incorrect, fun gunplay, setting and story were really silly and had so many "ok sure"-moments that i even ended up enjoying it. the game's graphics look good for the age, but i believe modern games get overly obsessed with looking "realistic" anyway. maybe i'm just into the slightly dated look. i'd value my 5.7h playthrough at ~10€, so buy on discount.

This is a tough one. I played the original when it came out and it was great but no longer available. This is just a graphical update and it's hard to really tell much difference, from memory. Way over priced, if you own the original but probably worth it if it's your first time playing.

A living meme of a game, Bulletstorm is a fun little FPS where instead of just killing the baddies you have to kill them with STYLE ala Devil May Cry. Pretty fun gameplay with satisfying gore and some truly memeworthy dialogues (General Sarrano is my new Miller) Give it a try.

This is a stupid game that I happen to enjoy quite a bit. I was initially disappointed when this released all those years ago, expecting the studio behind the great OG Painkiller to deliver something just as addicting and awesome. However, what is here is very clearly derived from the template of gears of war (and similar games) which have you control a heavily (heavy) automated character with tons of contextual buttons and QTEs, all the typical diseases. But even despite that, this game is charming in a weird way in terms of its nonsensical dialogue and plot, as well as pretty great looking set pieces that have no business being this impressive all these years later. Note that this game doesn't actually contain a proper ending, not that it matters anyway, but I think it's fair to point this out since it was originally conceived with a dumb sequel hook. Sequel that obviously never materialized. The game itself has a good combat loop if you use all the tools at your disposal and you can have some fun with the scoring system if you're that kind of person. It's also recommendable if you're desperate for some DUKE NUKEM and would like to see him supplant the main character with no rhyme or reason in the most jarring way possible. This is the only game I've seen that can have that and the game itself not be really any worse for it, and I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing. Still game is fun most of the time and I found the dialogue hilarious at points, even if it was otherwise trying too hard, but then it tries so hard that it loops around and succeeds, so who knows.

    Nov 7, 2022

Bulletstorm is still a fun shooter that involves chaining actions into combos that result in score multipliers. It's decently fast paced and has some neat weapon variety, including an energy leash to throw enemies around with. Although unfortunately the carry limit is just three weapons, which makes the experience constantly feel a bit limited and locked in... just like the level design. That level design involves a lot of cool looking environments, that only allow walking on strictly the correct pixels. There are lots of invisible walls in open space everywhere, which hinder traversal. Add in strictly linear level design with zero deviation from the mandated path and this game is very much a once-and-done experience. But that experience is actually pretty neat due to the good gunplay and cool scoring mechanic. The story is mostly just there because it has to be. It's not particularly well-written, and may be off-putting to some as a lot of the dialogue is very 90s, but it works well enough for a pure non-stop action game like this imo. It's really more of an excuse to blow stuff up. So it's a bit annoying that the worst bug I encountered was a cutscene not triggering in the final mission. Restarted the game, loaded the save, and it did work. Fortunately. This game still has a fair few bugs, from the original version. None appear to have been fixed with this "remaster". As for the graphics: they've aged, but can be tweaked a little for better results, and auto-HDR and ultrawide resolutions work out of the box, so it actually looked rather decent for how old this game is. Although ultrawide does crop, so I tweaked it a bit to scale properly with a nice custom FOV in the config files (see PCGW). The game also runs very well on any modern system, which certainly makes sliding around at breakneck speeds while blasting enemies into cacti a lot more practical. Speaking of practical concerns: the difficulty settings in this game are mostly variations on Easy, Easier, and Easiest. The only setting with even a hint of challenge is Very Hard, and even that is sporadic. All in all Bulletstorm is a fun shooter for fans of good, impactful, and fast-paced FPS gunplay and gameplay. It doesn't really hold up in any other way, but for a one-off run through at a steeply discounted price, it's worth a look. Not this ridiculous 37 euro nonsense for an 11 year old game. If you already own the original game: don't bother. The main enhancement in the Full Clip edition is a not-quite-functional FOV slider, otherwise it changes barely anything, doesn't fix any bugs, and even introduces a few new bugs of its own.

Fun game. Lazy remaster. Duke isn't enough to justify the price, they didn't even cleverly try to write him in around the script they just put him awkwardly in. Also the game looks and feels the exact same as before no real reason to have this version for PC.

Love it, but hate the lack of graphics settings. Here's how I got rid of the motion blur, DOF, and TAA:

Nostalgia made me buy this and it's exactly how I remember it, which is good in a way but this is a REMASTER. I can't honestly see the difference between this and the original. Framerates are good (i3770, 8gb RAM, 970, which is an improvement) but sometimes fails to actually startup, just crashes to desktop. Put it like this: Do you want to play a version of Bulletstorm that runs better than the original (and for some reason has Duke Nukem in it) for £30? Prolly not. I like the game (as I did 6 years ago) but can't recommend due it being practically a re-release of a 6 year old game with not a lot of new content (so far) and a price tag that is too high. Wait for a sale (at like, 50% off).
  • Narcotic_Malkavian

    Apr 10, 2017

People will thumb up anything now. They didn't even bother to sync up Duke's voice to his lips during cutscenes and the characters still call him Gray. I do not really see the graphics are improved that much if at all really. It crashed on me 3 times when just trying to load to the menu screen and I had to fix it myself because you know a game that came out 6 years ago that has just been re-released really should be crashing am I right? Here's the deal you have a really great 2011 game mixed with a insanely high price tag for what you get, with a stupid DLC at release, and lack of graphic options. If you find it on sale and they update the game some to fix some other issues people are experiencing and add a proper graphics menu because this is a PC game albeit an old one I say get it. For what it is now it's bullshit just nostalgic bullshit and once the nostalgia glasses wear out most people even if they won't admit it will see it just wasn't worth the money for what looks like a half assed release.

This is a hard one to review. I played the original Bulletstorm a fair amount of times and I gave it my recommendation, but this game is a very marginal upgrade. Hell, I don't even know what's different outside of the (disappointingly half-assed) Duke Nukem DLC and the fact that this doesn't use Games for Windows Live. Summary before I go into details, buy this only on sale, don't buy this if you already own the original Bulletstorm, and DEFINITELY do not buy it for the Duke Nukem DLC. While I thoroughly enjoyed the game, the current price point is exceedingly high. It's hard to say the game will even be worth it at half price. Now, since the old version's been booted from Steam and I can't reference my old review, I have to re-review the game. I may be in the minority, but I loved this game's shootybang fun time. The gameplay was enjoyable and most of the guns felt satisfying to use as well as the various Skillshots you could pull off. The overly linear nature of the level design is obviously a bit frustrating and restrictive though, which is one of the game's weakest points. I've played the story campaign through 3, maybe 4 times by now and every time I've almost completely forgotten the overall plot, which speaks volumes of the impact (or lack thereof) it had on me. The story -- though sprinkled all over the game -- however, feels very clichéd, with some of the writing feeling like they were trying a bit too hard to be funny. Can't really say anything about the multiplayer because I don't do multiplayer in most games. Willing to bet there are better multiplayer games for cheaper though if that's what you get your kicks from. The graphics are of "its era", even in this "new and improved" version of the game, not bad, but not stunning either. They're good enough as they are Because I love being redundant, I shall say again that overall the game is good, but it is not worth the price it is currently listed at. If it were reduced by at least 70-80% it would be more reasonable. I want to stay a fan of Gearbox, I genuinely do, but they make it so damn hard sometimes.
