Fun shooty game! Rather than the usual outer space ship scenery, it's about bees and other insects. I'm enjoying this. Recommended! Get it on sale (I got it for $1.99, 80% off) and you'll be having a great time.

i like it but i have one issue when you get hit its game over they is no way to recover on harder levels due to not being strong enough to power up in time to move. think the dev needs a slap to be fair what a dumb move to make in that sense, other than that game is pretty good and pretty fun. but would say the level up of your weapon should remain regardless if your killed or not

I almost liked it, it's almost good, a very acceptable shmup, even enjoyable from time to time, but in the end, too many small inconveniences that come spoiling the experience. GOOD POINTS: As said, the game is acceptable, contains all the correct elements of the genre, a good progression margin for the player, etc... The game has a strong theme and sticks to it, which kinda influences a lot the game and gameplay. Rather nice graphics and works satisfactorily on my potato computer, although there are strong slow downs, but this is kinda acceptable in the shmup genre lol The graphics are pretty good, very solid graphic work, good animations The save system is good. We're not playing shmups in arcade anymore and saving the game is important. It's important to keep balance between skill and save progression. Not all games do this satisfactorily BAD POINTS:

memory hole problems. If you play for too long the game becomes unplayable and ends up freezing. Even if you let it on the menu.
UNNECESSARY VERTICAL INTERLUDES. The devs thought it was a good idea to insert a vertical level after each mid-boss, but this level is way too difficult and hectic and becomes impossible to pass without losing 2-3 lives toward the last worlds. This is bad because you can't really get better at this level, it's mostly luck-based. That made me stop playing.
bad keyboard controls, no diagonals
no variety in the weapons, there's only one weapon type and no variations at all
once you levelup your weapon, THE BULLETS ADOPT A SINUSOIDAL TRAJECTORY THAT MAKES THE GAME MORE DIFFICULT.I hate when shmups do this shit...
Well bottom line : there are now enough shmups on steam that I can put thumb downs rather than just support them at any cost
(follow my curator page GenXPlayers for more retro and indie reviews)
First off, I can't play this game on my TV, because my cat instantly tries to attack the bee character 😂 I play on my Steam Deck and it runs perfectly. What can I say? I'm addicted to this game. Although it is VERY hard. It doesn't seem fair that after I've beaten a level I can't go back to that level; I have to unlock an entire world, or else start back at the beginning of a world every time. Since I suck at the game, it's very frustrating and I have to pick it up and put it down a lot. The escape level is so fast I die every single time. The difficulty, even on easy, is just too high.

Oh How I love this game!!! I can't find anything to complain about . I mean the Graphics are incredible. The Game-play is addicting and has the best replay value ive seen in a long long time. ITS FUN!! I love Centipede and YARS and this one gives you that same feeling of great retro arcade with great graphics and great game-play , YES I KNOW IM REPEATING MYSELF! No items to hold or carry , no long story-line, just a damn great Shoot 'Em Up ! THE MUSIC AND SOUND IS INCREDIBLE. My God, this is a freaking great game. The Synthesizer they use reminds me of Disney's Electrical Parade. This is well worth the asking price. No Doubt 100% and I have over 100 Shmup Shootemup Retro Arcade games in my Library this is top 5. PLEASE make a game where I can destroy Roaches!!!!

Well looks like Iam the second person to write a review for this game, which does surprise me there's not more!. This is the second game by kaliedo Games on steam, which the other is Vortex Attack which is a very addictive arcade Shoot Em Up game, which does not look as good as this one, but that one more than makes up with levels and as I said addictiveness and a cool arcade feel and sound to!. So on to this little gem! OK! As the first reviewer said it has simalarityys from other games, which is very true. And another game it also plays and looks like in its subject matter is another cassic called Insector X which came out on the Sega Mega drive all those years ago, which is a good thing, as it was one of my favourite games on that console. OK down to Beekyr Reloaded! First I can't believe there's not more reviews for this as its a very well made and very polished game to.It looks very lovely to look at with its hand drawn art style graphics, which for me I did not encounter any bugs in the game, apart from the ones actually in the game! Excuse the pun guys!😁. This game makes a lovely change from space bullit hell shooters, and goes for a insect based ideal which is great!. Everything as I said is well polished and no glitches in sight, but that's not to say other people may encounter the odd issues. If you have a half decent PC with a fairly good GPU you should have no problems. The graphics as I said fit the game perfect and the music is amazing with catchy memorable tunes, which sound very much like prog Rock to me on certain stages. It's not easy on arcade mode and takes some time to learn and get used to it, but at the same time it's very rewarding as well.So I would suggest to play it on easy mode to start with to get to know and get the feel of the game. As for how to play the game, I found it best on a X Box 360 controller which is all set up ready to play the game. Iam playing it on the D Pad part, but as for analog and keyboard or mouse Iam really not sure!. As for the stages there's lots of combinations to play it, as it says in the discription of the game, plus more playable characters to unlock to, which I can't wait to discover. This game has been out for a while on Google play store and its a awsome mobile game on mobile, but this improves on every level in content, control, sound and achievements to, which I have been told are on the way very soon. And one other thing the PC version has which the mobile version has not, is the bomb's you can collect and use, which charge up and fire at the enemy. The bomb's take some getting used to and require a certain type of timing as they don't luanch straight away, but I guess they act as a timing thing and a skill to learn to. Iam going to be blunt and say this game has production values far better than some £10 games and even £15 arcade shoot em up games to.And when you think it's just £5.99 which I feel is a crazy price for what you are getting for that. Last but not least! I really can not understand why this game has not got more interest in the Steam community and more reviews and downloads to, from what I can see So far!. So do yourself a favour and try it as you have nothing to loose. And if you don't like it then there's always the refund option to, but think alot of people would as long as you like old school shoot em ups with a modern look! I could talk about this game all day! But do yourself a favour and give it a try guys! 😁

    Dec 26, 2017

I was looking for a shoot 'em up style game to play so I happened to stumble upon Beekyr Reloaded. After watching the videos to decide if I should purchase the game, my interest piqued. The gameplay and premise reminded me of Insector-X and Kolibri so I hit that purchase button right away. After installation, I booted up the game and began playing. Seconds into the first game and the game pauses on me and I get the following message; "Beekyr is running slow" or something to that effect. OK, so I go to the options screen, go to graphic settings and turn off high detail, particle effects, etc. Restart the game again, and I get a little further into the first stage and when I least expect it, I get the game running slow message again. All graphic setting are set to the lowest settings so this time I close any extra windows and programs running in the background and restart the game again. Guess what? "Game running slow" message pops up. By this time, I'm frustrated and I request a refund. There's absolutely no way to enjoy the game if "Game running slow" messages keep popping up and interupting gameplay. Thanks, but no thanks.

So who wins the reward for best "skill based" horizontal SHMUP on STEAM? It's a really tough choice between Beekyr Reloaded and Super Hydorah. And NO the award cannot go to a CAVE shooter. The award must go to a well rounded shooter that requires both aiming skill as well as bullet and enemy dodging skills. :-) With that said lets dive into what makes Beekyr is so amazing. Where do I begin with Beekyr.. Perhaps it's the fact that this game harkins back to the precision aiming based gameplay of the horizontal shooters from the 90's? ... or maybe its that the game is overspilling with style, charm, and a unique setting? ... A big YES to both of those as well as the large abundance of developer love which has been thoroughly applied throughout the game. This love and attention to detail first becomes apparent when merely loading into the title screen. You will see an angry little bee hovering on the main menu buzzing its nicely animated wings. It's a beautiful prelude to the treat that will follow. So Beekyr's story is simple. Wasps attacked your hive, killed your queen, and now its up to you to retrieve the pollen and inact revenge on your winged adversaries. To your surprise the enemies of you and your fellow bee brethren are not only winged but land based insectoids as well. Beetles, spiders, cockroaches litter the ground as various winged insects fill the sky. Their numbers as well as bullet attacks increase drastically in size and speed as you make way through higher difficulties (Arcade mode is where the real challenge starts). The score mechanics are simple and old school which is a plus. The main weapon is skill based (no super easy full screen spread available, sorry folks!) and you actually get a larger point bonus NOT wasting shots. A far cry from the most popular Cave SHMUPS in which you continuously fire laying waste to enemies before they enter the play area. The game is beautiful, fun, exceptionally challenging, and feels almost perfect. I whole heartedly recommend this title. Beekyr Reloaded deservers more recognition than its received in the 2 months since release on STEAM. THIS is 90's skill based shooter heaven. Now...back to my initial statement. Beekyr Reloaded slightly edges out Hydorah IMO for STEAM's greatest horizontal shump due to the fact that ...well...it's so simple. Hydorah, as wonderful as it is, suffers from an inevitable 'weapon selection syndrome'. Meaning you must select the proper loadout to beat certain levels which one can only discover through trial and error, experimentation, and memorization. None of that nonsense in Beekyr as it simply requires down and dirty shooting skills. It's shooting purity with charm and that goes a long way. I've played a lot and I mean A LOT of SHUMPS in the past 40 years and my top tier list is extremely short. Beekyr is oh-oh so very close to top tier. If the little bee that could perhaps had a ground attack ability or one other key attack mode coupled with more varied mid bosses other than the vertical bee attack level and facing the killer birds 3 times then it could be a perfect game. Also, the prologue level is a bit odd in that it replays again when selecting different difficulties and as far as I can tell will always count towards your final score. So you almost need not to skip the introductory level as like I said.. it counts towards your score. I guess replaying the prologue isn't so bad at higher difficulties as it adds more enemies to fight at least. Also, as I stated earlier, Arcade mode is where the real challenge in Beekyr begins so try to breeze through Beginner mode as quickly as possible. You can thank me later :-) 9/10. EDIT: Can't believe I forgot to mention the soundtrack. It's simply amazing, all of it. Even the game over screen has a catchy 90's console tune...Perfection! Happy gaming!

I'm not used to make reviews for a game but I guess this game deserves a better visibility! So that's why I decided to write a short one! A cute shmup with a decent learning curve but where the game shines is when you try the bullet hell and elite mode! That's where the true game begins! Don't let the cute graphics get you! You have to learn the enemy placements and patterns if you wish to be able have a good score in these modes! The game also have a couple of secrets for you to discover and also have a coop mode for you to try with a friend! Me and my friend really had a blast with it! Very fun! Also if you manage to be in the 5 first people to clear the elite mode the devs will send you a t-shirt! There's only 3 spots remaining so make haste! I have found the developer to be quite accessible for questions and bugs so that he can patch these. It's a plus because sadly there are sometime studios that release a game and after that we never hear from them again.. so I guess it's definitely worth the money and time to invest in this game! I want to give a chance to this developer so that (I hope) he can get more visibility! That's it for me this time as a first review! Hope you enjoyed it!

EDIT: The bug has been fixed, I can now recommend this game, it's a fun one. Sadly I cannot recommend this game, I've had around 7 runs and twice the screen has gone black and it's unplayable, but making it worse I have to do a hard reset on my pc which is just unacceptable. I'm running one of the most common set ups and have no issues with any other game i7 5970k 970gtx 16gig ram etc etc It's a shame because it's a good game when it's working, and maybe I could forgive the crashes if they wasn't so serve that it locks my pc up. If the devs are listening, during the black screen, if I press start on my control pad to go into the menu, it will but there is no text, just the gui without text. I hope you can fix that issue, until then I cannot recommend this game.

Cool shmup! Nice graphics, good music and controls. Lots of unlockables visual filters to keep the eyes entertained too. Dev is very responsive and open to feedback. I did have some issues with differentiating foreground/background graphics and some minor issues with but overall it's a solid shmup. It even has some nods to another one of their games- vortex attack which is a fun game too--which was really cool. Unfortunately I'll probably never get the "real" ending as I found continuing means you have to start at the very beginning of the stage, (think the original Super Mario Bros), instead of at the level I died in. No worries though.

Not sure where to start. The game is somewhat ugly, sounds are quite lame. There is no clear pattern of anything (usually what you expect from SHMUPS) but it's... surprisingly fun and enjoyable. So yes, I'd recommend buying it and giving it a chance. It gets really hard later on.

I really wanted to like this shooter, but the random crashes killed it for me. It doesn't matter if I play around with the settings, It will crash anyway sooner or later, erasing my chances at a fair challenge. I reached the last stage on 1 continue several times just to have the level go dark and freeze with some pop up talking non-sense about running out of memory (on a PC with 8GB of SYSRAM and 6GB VRAM) Cannot recommend Beekyr Reloaded at this stage, not until they kill all bugs (literally).

Please read before purchasing. The game has many good elements but it has one bad element that really diminishes the experience. Some levels make it downright confusing / hard to avoid hitting a wall and losing a life. You almost have to memorize the pattern to move and if you don't take the right path - you lose a life. The graphics, the weapons, the enemies, the concepts - all very nicely done and I look forward to seeing more from this developer. Get it on sale and just be prepared for some memorization of paths. I don't have the patience for that at this stage in my life otherwise I'm sure it would receive a glowing recommendation.

This game has a lot of bugs. Ha. Very solid shmup. Definitely plays like an old 90s shmup and I mean that in the best way possible. Pros: +Fun visual style +shoot LOTS of bugs, like scorpions and hornets (everyone hates those guys!) +Shot upgrade system where defeating a boss increases your "max shot" level capacity. When you die, you get knocked down two levels instead of all of them, meaning its easy to recover when you get killed. This game gets more Gradius like the further you get in regards to boss battles, so this is a good thing. It's hard to explain in text, but its apparent how it works when you play. In simpler terms, this game is made in a way that you don't get completely screwed when you die (you do lose all your bombs though) + Fun bomb system. Tap the button once to get some invincibility frames and shoot a bee forward: you get a combo multiplier for how many enemies the bee kills, and it can be a great way to clear harder waves and rack up score! Holding down the button gives you a shield of bees that lasts longer and gives you more invincibility, but has less damage potential +Vertical "wave" stages break up the action nicely and give you a chance to score +Dying in a bonus stage doesn't actually cost you a life!! I love this Cons: -Bullets are hard to see sometimes -In the vertical sections, there is an invisible line on the screen you can't cross, but there's no visual indicator of where it is, which can mess up your dodging -Your weapon completely changes as you upgrade. Not much of an issue since the shot you get is almost always better, but whatever the shot you get after waveshot is has a crappy spread and the spreadshot just seems better. A non issue when you get the next shot powerup and get a better weapon than both of those previous ones, but it's kind of a bummer when you do have it and think "I would rather just have spreadshot" -The parts of branches that are safe to pass through aren't clearly marked. Trial and error, I guess. There are some areas where you can pass through branches and other obstacles safely, which you'll need to because dodging gets very tight in later stages -Getting graded on accuracy for a bonus sucks, especially when pre-firing is such a good strategy in these types of games. Would have rather been grades on an enemies killed or "no miss" system Overall a really excellent game. I was going to play for like 10 minutes and played for 2 hours, if that tells you anything.

(follow my curator page GenXPlayers for more retro and indie reviews)
https://youtu.be/Zd-yAWI7SPk Great atmospheric side scrolling shmup. Gameplay and music are on point. I keep coming back because of the leaderboards. Worthy title that works well with an arcade stick.

Nice little Shoot-em-up! Takes me back to my Amiga days and how Apidya stole my afternoons. If you like Shmups, you cannot go wrong with this game, especially for the price.
