Once upon a time the world was flat.

The Old Stoics kept the world whole, and kept their magic out of the hands of mankind. Hence came the Pirate King, who found those with evil hearts willing to share the arcane knowledge. With legions by his side, he fought the Old Stoics and destroyed them all.

It was then the world began to fail.

Game Description

Airship Asunder gives you command of a steampunk airship, tasked with building settlements and seeking your fortune among the ruins of a dying land. Will you stand above the chaos and save what remains of our precious flat earth, or will it be torn asunder?

Captain your vessel and fly the skies of adventure! Establish new colonies, build mighty empires, search for ancient relics, use powerful magic spells and battle evil forces on your quest to defeat the Pirate King!

Taking game play and visual inspiration from the exploration and adventure of classic games such as Seven Cities of Gold, Ultima IV, Civilization, M.U.L.E. and Intellivision’s Utopia, Airship Asunder mixes a blend of retro-style graphics into a single palette, with a nod to the nostalgic days of adventure gaming.

Key Features

Time-Based Gameplay: A unique blend of action and board gaming.

Rogue-Like Colonization: Explore the wilds and build to survive.

Progression: Gain levels, collect relics, and command huge vessels!

I ended up getting sucked into this. Reminds me a fair bit of the old Ultima games, blended with the original Sim City + other builders of the early 1990s. Wish it was easier to get resources moved around: maybe something I've missed, or part of the challenge?

This game is pretty fun so far and has some potential but is kind of frustrating at times. Interface could use some improvements, moving around resources (especially in later levels) is extremely cumbersome and can only be done manually. Still feels like early access.

I tried quite hard with Airship Asunder, but ultimately I found it wildly inaccessible. I must have read the text tutorial five seperate times, and completed the in-game tutorial at least twice. I think the main problem I had is that there is no accounting of units and resources anywhere. There is a metric ton of in-game text, but very little of it is really useful. Lets try to strip that down to what I really need to know - that would be a good start. Next, I go on the forums and find a stickied thread from the developer with helpful hints. Great! I read over that and find it is both redundant with the in-game information, and anything extra was largely useless. Doesn't matter. I do understand the basic premise of how the game works - you establish colonies that generate resources. You pilot an airship to move these resources around, and use them. You fight ground and air units. It seems cool, and the artwork is nice. I just couldn't break through to understand certain critical elements, namely accounting of what my colonies had versus what I had (in general), and what was on the airship. It's not rocket science, just add stats (or show me how to find those stats). Pros: +I like the artwork, and basic idea of a board-game-esque strategy game +I like that you can use only the mouse; it makes for a good coffee break game Cons: -Wayyyy too much text on the screen, and more importantly - very little is functional -Price is too high for me to keep this game when refunds exist; the dev needs to spoon feed me a little more information; and its not like there aren't two seperate tutorials (of sorts), but neither of them were adequate or focused enough to get me started Sorry, the lack of instruction was a fatal flaw here. Could be a real gem beneath the surface, but I'll never know. Looks like I'm not alone with the lack of reviews and overall community feedback/discussion. Peace,

Beyond the unintuitive interface lies what I believe to be a gem. Initially, the game can be a little confusing, but there are many great ideas at play. I intend to write a real review when I have more time.
