50 Years is a fast-paced alternative to the bigger, longer turn-based strategy games. You can win or lose a game in a single evening. Either way you'll want to play again.

We love strategy games and we want to keep all those emotions that we had while playing them. That's why "50 years" is still a strategy. You will take difficult decisions and take risks.

Replayability

Early game matters

We are sure that early game is one of the most fun parts of strategy game. Of course, the mistakes in early game can have unfortunate consequences and can even lead to defeat, but that is what makes this games interesting.

A strategy game where you cant save? Brutal. 50 years takes 50 turns a game, its an hour or so at most. The game ends when you lose a battle, you get attacked now and then, its sorta random but stays the same if you do the same things. Simple to play, tough to master, seriously, you'll go mad on Very Hard difficulty. There are 10 different countries to play as and each has its own traits you should take advantage of while discovering the different playstyles you can use to win a game. Will you go with Religion and Angels or go with nature and Unicorns? Why not mix both and let the Minotaurs come and play. Most achievements are based on difficulty and passing challenges, you're going to need to learn how to play properly to get the 100% you want. I loved the zombie chickens challenge. If you are having trouble with very hard difficulty, you could follow some walkthroughs available in the steam guide section but they dont always work since lots of battles are different depending on the day and even what Dens RNG gives you on your run but if you keep failing, just can just give up for that day and do special challenges instead, the next day battles will be different and maybe more favourable. Note that special games (challenges) do not allow to unlock country or difficulty achievements. The art and music is nothing to write home about, its an old game with a Newgrounds/Kongregate Flash feel, still, I've always liked my games more for gameplay and mechanics than graphics, so it's a pass from me on that front. The real meat of the game is the challenge, how will you use your 50 turns to beat the final attack where hundreds of soldiers come at you? me? I liked to turn them all into zombie chickens! 50 Years is very frustrating at first but gets super fun once you create your own system of record keeping to plan your runs, write down what you did so next time you can do it a little differently. I am not sure if this game would be better with saving or not since the threat of permadeath is always something enjoyable once you beat it. 50 Years gets 87 RNG Angels that refuse to revive out of 117 humans turned into Zombie Chickens.

I played this game on itch.io. It was clear that the game concept is really interesting! The more you play, the more you see how everything is connected to each other. It's apparent simplicity hides a lot of tactical capabilities. Steam version of the game is full of life! Graphics inspired by old-school games. 2D, warm and cozy! Soundtrack is good. Just puts you into the game. I recommend this game to fans of strategy games like heroes or civ! And especially for those who love interesting games in "coffeebreak" timing )

A turn-based strategy which is surprisingly good. Game sessions are short, deep and spiced up with innovative mechanics. Generally, you have to effectively manage your budget to purchase buildings (which have various passive effects) and units (who will face enemy units at the end of the turn). Replayability is right there - you can choose between ~10 factions, plus the games offers achievements and difficulty levels. Even though it's Early Access, I haven't run into any unbalanced things or crashes. Very cozy coffeebreak strategy game with great potential. You should give it a chance!
50 Years
Pros: + Really Enjoyed The Art Style + Lots Of Different Soldiers To Have In Your Army + Different Game Modes + Enjoyed Watching The Battles Cons: - The Start Of Each Game Is Slow (Picks Up After The First 7 Rounds Or So) Review 50 Years is a very interesting game that I enjoyed playing. You try to survive waves of attacks for 50 years which is equal to 50 rounds. The further the game goes on the bigger the waves of enemies there are. The art is very nice to look at and one of the things I most enjoyed about this game. The battles were cool to watch especially when there were waves of soldiers of different types. You can choose from different races to play as, different skill branches to upgrade on, and different strategies to play by. When it's on sale it's definitely worth it. If you enjoy games like this than this is definitely for you. This starts with an interesting concept, a time limited strategy game, in a rather minimalist style. However, that concept is marred by several design flaws that prevent this from being a truly fun experience. While it is nice the game has different nations, religious bonuses, units, and building types, the simple fact is that nothing is balanced. At least two of the nations are unplayable except for those gamers looking for an excessive challenge. Two of the religions unlocked via play are 'must have', while the others can be safely ignored without impeding your enjoyment or effectiveness. The cost of buildings, expecially the higher level ones, are far too expensive for the comparative minimal benefits they grant. The balance between the various units is better, although still lacking, especially considering the wholly random nature of attacks launched against you. This randomness also works against the game, as there is no true curve to the difficulty as the game progresses; it's simply a series of peaks and valleys. It is both annoying and frustrating to go from two millitiamen in one battle, to twenty knights and archers in the next. Since the game ends as soon as all of your units are defeated, and since you cannot predict, or even guess, what will be attacking you at any given time, you cannot stop focusing on developing your army, which, at mid to late game, limits what you are really able to do, where in most games with any type of upgrades, your options are more open and meaningful as you progress. That said, I have put a decent amount of time into the game, and will likely play it for a few minutes here and there. I believe this is the best way to play this game, in small chunks, with plenty of time between sessions, when you have nothing else to do. As such, I will not fully recommend this game, since I assume the vast majority of gamers would rather play something that will hold their attention longer, or at least have slightly more long-term potential.

I like it, fun and surprisingly has replayability value(as you try to finish it with different teams to unlock all achievements) One minor gripe, why not have a quick resolve combat option? as it gets boring sometimes just waiting for 1 vs 1 combat to end.

5/10 It's not too bad, but as a strategy game it was extremely disappointing, however I see it as being more of a puzzle game, and if you approach it from that angle with that kind of mindset and expectation, then you can have at least a few hours of fun with it. The game will likely be of more value to Achievement Hunters, as the games Achievements are not only super easy to obtain, but can be achieved with a high degree of speed. For example, once you've learned the games core mechanics, which isn't difficult, you can get three Achievements per victory, one for winning with the faction, the other for playing it on hard, and the third for banishing/ignoring the Devil. As for "Special Games" they can all be done on very easy mode for the Achievements. After that there's only a dozen or so specific Achievements which aren't really that difficult, stuff like recruit a certain unit or acquire a certain blessing, all pretty easy and straightforward. This isn't a game where you can expect endless hours of fun, there is finite level of fun to be had here and it's measured in hours.

A fantastic lite strategy game. If 10-20 hours of quality playtime (and a bit more mindless grinding afterwards for achievements) sounds like it's worth five bucks or so to you, you could do a lot worse.

50 times better than 95% low cost titles we have on Steam store at moment. I can agree with the critics of "50 years" on the point that "there is not so much going on". It's surely not the Bulletstorm or Wolfenstein, people. It's a text-based strategy game about building some kingdom which you don't even see on the screen. You gain some resources over time (basic gold, then faith points, then - possibly - wood) and spend those resources on buildings and battle units. From time to time, some (auto)battles occurs, where the strongest side prevail. And yes, the only two things you do through the game are buying stuff and clicking the next turn. Quite static entertainment, which some of the folk there don't even count as entertainment at all. But hey, have you ever heard about clickers? On the bright side, we have: very cute static graphics, nice mild music, and more-or-less fair and even variable economical part. I'd say, it's a fair deal, about 7.3/10 in my book. Sure, it's not something that will hold your breath, mind, memories. It'll not take too much time to play for all nations and other game changing options aviable, and most of that time you'll be doing something else (like watching some movie). But, altogether, it's very worth of its price. Compared to the market, like I said from the start.

A great casual strategy. The gameplay is simple. You goal is to survive 50 years. Each year you get gold/wood/faith income which can be spent on hiring units and construction of buildings. Then you need to end the year. Before starting new year there is a big chance you will be attacked by enemies. If you survive it the next year starts. So the game is about good planning, you need to rise your army enough to stand against enemies, but if you will forgot about economy you will be outnumbered at the later stages. Actually, this game could be passed in less than our. But you will start over and over again before you will find a strategy which brings you to the victory! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1183401110 The economy part of the game is pretty linear. You can hire peasant. Each one gives 100 gold per year. For hiring any units you need food which can be granted by building Chicken farms. There is also a forester's hut which gives gold income and food. And there are buildings which gives wood and faith income. So, you need to hire as much peasants as possible during the early game and than choose your defense plan to concentrate on 1 resource. There are 3 basic defenders: militiaman, swordsman and knight. They requires gold. There are also other 3 different groups of units. First part is paladins, exorcists and angels. First two requires faith for hiring ( they also need a knight). Angel costs gold and improve paladins. To make a good army with them requires a lot of faith. The second part is mythical units. They are extremely strong and expensive. You can have only 1 such creature per 1 barrack. So you need a lot of gold for making the army of them. Finally, there is the third part of units, which requires wood for hiring, Archers, Druids and Unicorns. If you want to make them you need to change your economy from gold to wood. There are also skill system. By killing enemies or buildings special buildings you get faith. If you save enough faith you will get skill levels. There are 25 skills divide by 5 groups. I won't describe them all, you can read it on your own. In my opinion the 3th group is the best. Finally, there are dungeons. You need some years to unlock and then you can try to beat them. Each dungeon gives reward. Some of them are really useful, so you should destroy them all before 50 year. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1183401225 It was really enjoyable to win this game. yYeah, sometimes it got pretty annoying starting new game right from the start. But it's OK because the game is fast passed. I made about 50 attempts until I found the strategy which brought to the victory and i got good feelings about it. Actually, I played on Very Hard. I think, it's much more easy to win on easier difficulties. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1183401291 Pros - Easy understanding gameplay - High replayability. At least until you pass it :D - A lot of ways of achieve victory. 11 nations with unique perks, 5 different skills tree, 3 different arny setups. - Possibility to pass the game less than hour - Relaxing graphics and music Cons - One mistake usually equals lose - There is random in this game which could be devastated for the player - No ability to save the game. Every time start from the beginning - No ability to leave/restart the game during battle phase even if you realised you lose. Only Alt+F4
Resume
There are no great graphics or animations. But it's strategy game, it doesn't need it. So if you are fan of this genre, you should give it a try. I can recommend it.

50 Years is a minimalist empire simulator meant to be played in small doses. You pick your empire (with its bonuses or negatives) and then try to hold off invading forces for fifty turns. In between you buy more troops, buy buildings to collect resources or build troops and have a few special encounters as your 'scouts' locate caves and swamps outside your kingdom. As you win fights or over turns you accumulate Faith which allows you to select religious bonuses such as more money per turn, extra troops or troop bonuses. Game play happens entirely over maybe five different screens and battles are automated. As you may have guessed, this is not a complicated game. But it is attractive and fun, offering a number of different paths to try from game to game. It is likely not a game with tremendous longevity since the game play is limited however it's fun when played as a time killer.

-- Review for game played on Linux with Steam Play feature -- Nice little strategy game. It does not look like much but extremely fun to play, with good replay value. You can select from a pool of given nations (each with own perks), can select type of game (standard 50 years or other type), difficulty. This game is definitely one of the best in its price range and can go as your quick fix for strategy games when you have no time to invest into something longer than 30 minutes. worked nicely on Debian 9 (Linux, Nvidia drivers, Proton 3-16 beta).

Charming little game, very easy to learn. Each game is really short, you get 50 turns to build up your civilization and survive enemy raids. It feels really dynamic and allows you to experiment with different strategies and nations without having to wait for a long time for the results of said strategies. The art style is nice and I really like the music.

50 Years is a fast-paced alternative to the bigger, longer turn-based strategy games. You can win or lose a game in a single evening. Either way you'll want to play it again. Although individual matches are short, the game offers a large combination of customization and decision-making options that make the game re-playable. Playing a round of 50 Years can easily be accomplished in 30 minutes. There are 5 difficulties, with higher difficulties taking slightly long only because they require more thought. On each turn the player selects units and buildings to buy with their resources (primarily gold, but also wood and faith). I was a little disappointed that there was no combat user interaction. Combat is played out automatically with the computer choosing where units are placed and how they move. Overall I found 50 Years to be an enjoyable turn-based strategy game. It has a ton of replay value and gameplay is quick for shorter play sessions, especially if you're tight on time but need something fun to play for a while.

For a half-dollar, I was not disappointed, but there is not much happening in this game, beside some strategic decisions. It is basically a climbing game, where you buy resources to make more resources, and after most turns there is an automatic battle that happens. The graphics are two-dimensional but still pleasant, and there are some interesting challenges with each nation or selected game-dynamic. But it is not much more than the title suggests: survive 50 turns to win the game. I played this on a low-end ubuntu linux computer, with Steam Play emulation. The game uses a java-based game engine, and it only takes up 42MBs of diskspace.

50 Years is a quick and extremely casual alternative to the bigger, longer turn-based strategy games. You can win or lose in about an hour. The strategy layer is simple to understand but actually has some depth to it once you dig deep enough. There is no tactical layer, you have no control over units or combat. Each turn (one year) is a set of decisions on what to purchase, which in turn gives you various resources to spend the following year. As each year passes you may face a variety of obstacles, being attacked by enemy armies, scouting new dungeons (with slightly different encounters and rewards each time) and as you gain faith you decide what bonuses to gain from your spiritual choices. If you survive in power the entire 50 years you face a final battle for victory. While each play through is relatively short there is replay value in choosing different nations as they each have variations in their bonuses and play styles and there's a few alternate versions that can be played outside the main campaign as well as higher difficulty settings for a more intense challenge. While there are plenty of more elaborate strategy games out there, few deliver a simple relaxing and streamlined experience that can be played casually in short sessions and still include enough depth to make you want to play it again, especially for this low a price. --- While you are here, would you consider following my curator page? Want to read all of my reviews and not just the curated ones?
50 Years
Pros: + Really Enjoyed The Art Style + Lots Of Different Soldiers To Have In Your Army + Different Game Modes + Enjoyed Watching The Battles Cons: - The Start Of Each Game Is Slow (Picks Up After The First 7 Rounds Or So) Review 50 Years is a very interesting game that I enjoyed playing.

Simple time waster of a game 50 Years is. Buy some peasants, hire some soldiers, build your city. Simple.
